Took a day off work today, the intention to get to grips with the S-Type, have a close look at the underside; remove the wheels; close look at the brakes - see how much life the discs and pads have got with them; close look at the suspension etc.

I was concerned that each of the wheels seemed to be rusted on the hub and had to be knocked off. I was a bit cautious at first as I was using the supplied jack and as a gentle thumb wasn't getting anywhere, in the end I had to give the wheels a couple of kicks to get them off. Obviously I changed from the supplied jack and brought out the trolley jack and axle stands.

Anyway with wheels removed in turn, I was able to give each corner a thorough clean, you may ask why, my approach here you can have a thorough inspection addressing issues before they become a fault and the wheels look amazing when complete.

Wheel removed - light dirt, brake dust, tar, rust and adhesive residue on the inside.

On the other side, the hub is rusted with rust patches on the caliper

First wash with AG Shampoo, agitated with a car brush, the more stubborn stains/tar/rust/adhesive needs a bit more.....

With the use of AG Clean Tyre and some more agitation;

AG Tar Remover;

A small (brass) wire brush (for the rust);

the results are pretty good.

The whole wheel rinsed off and a layer of AG Super Resin Polish applied (inside and out).

To address the rust and sticking to the hub, a thin application of copper slip is applied where the two metals will meet.

Didn't want to put too much on, as I don't want to spend the next couple of days cleaning it off.

Clean wheel mmmm

AG Instant Tyre Dressing applied and left to dry, time to turn my attention hub and brake.

Hub and caliper cleaned as with the whole wheel arch;

Rust prevention applied to hub, allowed to dry;

Not enough time to paint calipers - perhaps next time?

A job well done

(Good job the tyre had "outside" written on it - I could have made a mistake.........)

Cracking work matey

Again, thanks Shaun.

A fair bit of effort, especially all four - the wife approached with tea in hand and asked the inevitable question - why, it's only going to get dirty again..............
