Gremlins in my electrical system

I am sure my car has got the electrical gremlins,

My 2005 S-type 2.7D

will not start (I have asked advice on this forum and thats on-going)

Now I get a loud beeping from the car when its parked and locked its almost like the alarm and the remote switches it off, but the normal alarm sounds the horns, this just beeps real loud.

I have had to dis-connect the battery, because when I switch it off with the remote, it starts again after 30 mins.

Any ideas?

Its some time since I posted this and here is the conclusion.

The none start was solved by replacing the main ECU, second hand off eBay fitted by local agents, total £300

The beeping turned out to be the passive alarm, the battery wears out and sets the alarm off, cure was to simply disconnected it, main alarm still works, battery was too much hassle and cost to replace.

Now the gremlins are attacking my self levelling headlamps!!

Hi Stan,

Have you had your battery checked?

There is so much electrical technology in many cars these days, and when the battery starts to fail the least important things fail first.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Stan,

Your car sounds like it is doing all the same things as mine was when I first bought it mine had the beeping from the passive alarm under the right hand wing and some other electrical issues air bag warning light coming on messages on the dashboard from the command centre, headlight dipping and main beam changing on its own.

I took it to a local Jaguar Specialist but not a main dealer who fixed all the faults the airbag was due to the electrical terminals on the clock spring inside the steering wheel not making a good connection terminals were cleaned and re connected, dipping headlights due to faulty switch on stalk lights / indicators / other stuff got a second hand switch £40.00 fitted same time as steering wheel air bag connections fixed.

.

The passive alarm and other electrical bugs due to faulty wiring loom where water can enter underneath the drivers side headlight as the wiring loom is not very good quality specialist said he has found this problem on many S Types 2004 onwards he said the looms were supplied from somewhere in Eastern Europe and the quality is poor I don't have proof of this only his word.

I did not have a whole new loom fitted just uncovered the section under the headlight stripped to expose faulty wires fixed and resealed, while he was under the car he found that the hoses to the heater were both starting to weep at the connectors and replaced both hoses and said they were a disaster waiting to happen my 2005 (05) S Type has only 52,000 miles so if yours is this old or older it might be worth checking your hoses as they can only be seen from underneath and if they split you could be stranded.

Happy Motoring

Now the car is working 100% and a pleasure to own and drive.

I need to tell member the problem was fixed (but not solved) by disconnecting the passive alarm from under the fuse box, seems there is a rechargeable battery behind O/S headlamp that dies after the years and sets off the alarm.

One day I might install a new battery, but as the main alarm works I am not in a hurry.

Another problem fixed but not solved is the self levelling headlamps pointing down, replaced the brackets, all went well then they failed I think that this may be a wiring problem but they are working at the moment.

all other aspects car is running fine, just beginning to realise ownership is a challenging hobby, and in all my years of motoring never quite had the relationship with another car, a feeling that is hard to explain..

I am now trying to gather information of the Mangoose and DTS diagnostics so I can avoid running to the dealers.

Anyway why worry if I was not spending money on the Jag I would only waste it on stupid things like food and utility bills

happy motoring

I only have to leave my S for a week or so (undercover) and yes, another warning light comes on.When I had the wiring checked by a real expert last Summer he told me that the wiring looms were a bit dodgy..but also that the positioning of the cables underneath the car could cause problems also.He highlighted an area of concern where the main loom passes over ..I think..an anti-roll bar (cannot exactly remember now) anyway, the bar in question rubs away and finally exposes wiring.he repositioned the loom to stop this happening. My friend has myriad problems with the wiring on his "X" which leaves us to think that yes, corners were cut when these beautiful cars were made....

I think the out sourcing of parts needed a lot to be desired, , design was fine but materials  were junk, typical example are the headlamp swivels, some by helia (black) are fine others (unbranded (white) just crumble away.
