Usual advice service history body & interior condition, mileage on a diesel isn't a usually a problem, I would also look a buying from a dealer my car was bought last year with a full service history and one owner from new, what didn't show up on the test run was a faulty gearbox, as it was from a dealer it came with a warranty which ended up with a recon gearbox having to be fitted, there are good deals around to buy private but at the end of the day it is BUYER BEWARE they can be expensive cars to put right!

Good luck in you're search buy the right one and you won't look back

I must admit a made a mistake with my car the warranty was for 3 months but only included labour for the first month, the gearbox fault only showed up after a motorway run and as the car had been stood for 3 months before I bought it I thought it would clear itself, it did't and i had to pay the labour for the gearbox change.

I also thought a dealer must offer a warranty (I think minimum 1 month) other than that it is classed as a trade sale.

Recently bought my first Jaguar. Went for a 2006 2.7 V6 diesel Sport with sat / nav. Very pleased, except for the sat nav. Stick with Tom Tom.

Mine has the aluminium facia rather than wood.

Very confortable on my long weekly commute. Looks good as well.

Did buy it privately as never convinced that warranties will pay out.

Mine was April 2006, one owner, full service history with same Jaguar dealership and 27,600 miles on the clock, with less than 8,000 in the last three years, which did worry me. However, I was able to ascertain that it had been driven once a month fairly hard, which is necessary for a diesel.

I paid £9,000 for it plus £400 to have it inspected and collect by a mechanic who went up to Wrexham for me.

I have a friend who is in the car trade and he and various garages around here use a guy who is a very good mechanic and has his own garage but who will go anywhere in the UK and collect cars for the trade. He will inspect the car before the funds are transferred, so heavily relied on by the trade down here.

Hi I'm new to JOC having recently purchased an S Type 1999 model 3 litre petrol V6 auto. I have a limited warranty but the couple of problems have been put right under this warranty from the dealer with no quibble. I owned a Mark X years ago and loved it but this is a fabulous motor. Fast and the steering is so direct. I had a lovely W124 Merc before and I thought it would be difficult to replace but I'm pleased with my choice. I would recommend a good service history record though and a warranty of some description, it can pay dividends. I hope you find a good one!

Hi Searay,

I bought my S-Type from an independant with a 6 month warranty, the car had a good history with a single owner prior to my good-self.  I took the precaution of getting the AA in to inspect the car, seemed costly (£280.00) but gave a certain amount of peace of mind - he did identify a couple of very minor issues.

I've had the car for a little over 9 months and other than service/brake pads/tyres all has been good.

Best regards,

Dave
