I agree Peter, can't see why I should have to take the car on a run  ( four miles) to get it up to operating temperature , then wait five minutes before the computer can check it, far easier to check using a dipstick .

I took possession of my S-Type 3.0 SE 22nd Feb 2014 so after just 1 week, I am still in total awe of the whole jag driving experience, can't imagine my enthusiasm fading either :D

Hi Trevor,

 

You always have to wait a while when the engine is hot, even with a  dipstick.  I give mine a check while the engine is cold in the mornings.

 

The last car I had with a starting handle was a 1962 Austin A 40 Farina with a 998 cc engine that would do 65 mph with a following wind and a slight downwards gradient.

 

The advent of transverse engines caused the demise of the starting handle..

That's what I would like to do, just go out and check the Oil in morning instead off all the palaver mentioned above .

One of the reasons I bought a 2001 S Type 4L last year instead of a later model was the traditional handbrake fitted. I try to keep things simple to reduce the possibility of huge repair bills as the cars get older. I have experienced this in my VW Touareg V10. Eye watering bills every time one of the fancy components fail, and they do, one after the other. Having covered some 6k in the Jag I still believe this is the best car I have ever owned. I just love it.

                As you can gather from my comments above, i agree with you .

 

On mine the bonnet sensor went (who needs it anyway) so I couldn't lock the car as it though the bonnet was open . Luckily is was covered under warranty, but I still had to do a 130 mile round trip to the stealership to get it fixed . And don't even get me started about the battery in an electronically operated boot !

 

But apart from that , the car is fab !

I love my 2004 all black s type 2.5 goes very well I might change for 2.7d s type if the right one came along but @ the moment im happy

Welcome to the Club, Martin.

 

I used to have  an X type 2.5 litre AWD 05 plate in metallic red.  A lovely car to drive.

 

The opportunity came to get an S Type [a pair of rotten so and sos carjacked my X type] --  my wife said "let us turn a disaster into an opportunity" and I looked for an s type 2.7 diesel, and a later model came along.

 

So enjoy your Jaguar, and you will find a lot of people in the club who are having the same experience.

Every day I love my S type a bit more. The seats cuddle you. Who wants to get out. Where can I go next. Hubby works in Jag prototype development and even he smiles when I let him drive.

Hi Margaret,

 

Where can I go next is the right question.

 

I spent yesterday washing and shampooing my car, and polishing it with micro fibre cloths, just to get it ready to go to the Charity Car meet [several Club members are going] in Alfreton near Derby.

 

And I hope you get that two bar fitted ready for the heatwave.

P.S.  I had a letter from Stratstone offering a cam belt and tensioner change for £495 inc vat.  The car is 7 years old with only 54k on the clock, although it did have a new engine when owned by Jaguar at 21K.

I thought that cam belts should be changed at 105k.

Was reading someone's reply to a topic earlier (can't remember which  one) and he said he found a Jag dealer that were doing cam belts for £395 all in

For those in the Derby area there is an independent, Elite and Performance Jags, which has been recommended to me.

 

They have their pricing for all services displayed on the site so you can see exactly how much you will pay.

 

Already spoke to them about a problem with my S type and they did seem very knowledgeable.

Welcome to the Club, Keith.

 

The S type is a great car to drive.  Some people don't like the retro design, and some do.  It is the car I always wanted and, personally, I think it is what a Jaguar should look like.

I prefer the old design Jags to the new ones, the wife never liked the look of the XJ Supersport, that's why she forced e to get the XKR

It is getting a good rinse, Margaret.

 

I went to a Charity Car Meet in Alfreton last Sunday and the Jaguar owners club were the  biggest club there with X Types, S Types and XK8's there.

 

An S type won a prize  ---  mine!  I was dead chuffed.

Well done, what was your prize, a new white cap?

 

Don't think mine would win any prizes, but it has got special paint work, it is a metallic kyanite blue, if you look closely it has little metal flakes in it , which looks rather nice.
