I recently bought a 2003 x type diesel and if the ignition is switched on or off there is a buzzing noise coming from under the left hand side of the dash, roughly below the indicator stalk, it`s baffling me as to what it is, can anyone help please as to what the noise could be, thanks.

Welcome to the club, Paul.

Buzzing I have never heard of, gurgling yes!

Does the car run well otherwise?

Regards,

Peter.

They don't have an electronic steering lock do they? It's about the right area for one

The car is running as sweet as a nut, averaging 35.4 mpg local, it`s covered 135735 miles but doesn`t feel like it. I am very pleased with the jag it`s superb.

Will check the steering lock, if it`s not that will have to take a look at the weekend.

Thanks for the welcome and advice guys,

Paul.

Re Buzzing Noise

There is a small slotted grill behind the indicator stalk on the Facia which has a Fan behind it. I am lead to believe this stops after so long when the car is locked, and can be checked by placing a small piece of tissue paper over it which should be held in place by the Fan and when it switches off the tissue should fall to the floor, when the car is locked hope this helps

Regards

Hi Richard

This Fan has to do with the Electrics going into Sleep Mode when Locked. There was an article in the JEC.Org Magazine about this and also had a Picture of the Tissue held against the small slotted grill. Have tried with the Tissue on my own 2009 x type but the paper keeps falling off, do not know if this Fan has been done away with now.

I'm new to Jaguars too, and I've noticed this buzzing noise .

I thought it might have been something to do with the climate control/air-con temperature sensor. There was a similar noise in my old Saab 9000 which was temp sensor related. I will however bow to the superior jaguar knowledge here.
