  1. It's been a while. I eventually bought an oil separator and installed it. Before that I installed a new PCV valve and that made a difference in how it ran, for about 3 weeks. Got an oil separator with a filter and drain valve and got it installed, and it makes a difference. It runs smoother around town and seems to have a little more power. Then did some searching and found out the PCV system on these engines is considered their weakest link.

  2. I had this problem on my xj8 (battery is in boot/trunk) when the key for the boot/trunk release did not work. Some told me to drill a hole in a specific place on the rear panel and poke around with a screw driver to release the catch. However you do not need to do this at all. The key will open the drivers door and then you can open the bonnet (hood). Connect a car battery negative earth cable to top of suspension strut (earth) and the positive to the junction of positive cable on right side of engine bay. (It is usually covered by a rubber cover) You can then use remote or key to unlock all doors and boot (trunk).
