  1. Ken,

The XKR is 510BHP (mine), the XKR-S is 550 BHP , but isn't a lot quicker than the XKR, not mine plus £19500m worth anyhow.

Told the stealership  I could keep mine and get a decent AMG convertible with the £19500 they wanted on top of mine.

    Bunch of thieves !

    This was the car

  2. Charlie,

60 ? Peter and myself have older things in the fridge !

Didn't realise you still had the XK, no point in getting and XKR then ; thought you had sold it for some reason .

The wife really likes the XKR now, but is still banging on about a Mercedes.

The roads round here are not big enough for a mulsanne . Had a look at a Bentley before I got the Aston Martin, didn't like it at all, just a load of Volkswagen bits and no charisama. Much prefer the older Bentleys, but as I said the cart tracks round here are too small, that's why caravans are such a nuisance .

The Bentley I looked at was similar to this , I preferred the XJ Supersport .

  3. Phil,

Well that is a bit better, the XJ will make a fab wedding car (see the pic of mine in the gallery) .

It is beyond me why they didn't tell you the truth to start with, it it had been me that had been kept in the dark, I would probably have a Mercedes by now .

I presume it was the stealership who gave you all this nonsense? they make me want to spit !

Anyhow, at least you're making progress, all rather underhand, but as long as you're happy(ier), that is the main thing .

Pic of my XJ Superpsort used for a wedding last Christmas .

  4. Phill,

Go to the audio settings and press "mix" for a couple of seconds, that will play all the folders of music in random order .

much has to be said about being sensible , up on retirement ( my pension is being means tested by the way) I changed my name to Hendrix by deed poll and vowed to increase the number of live gigs I go to .

I do think buying a Devil's fuel car is going a tad too far though, you'll be doing your Christmas shopping next !

Should you need any music at all just tell me what you want and I'll put it on to a DVD disc in MP3 form for you ( I used to be a music researcher) .

I did look at the F Type before I bought this XKR, didn't think it looked as good in the flesh as I thought, and at the time they only had the ones with the dinky toy engine in

A couple of weeks ago 'er indoors was pestering me to get an XKR-S but for all the extra money, and not that much better performance I didn't think it was worth it

  5. Phil ,

Welcome?  The one thing I like about my XKR is the sound system,it is a Bowers and Wilkins,  it also reads the USB stick very quickly (have you tried a different one?) . The paddles are tacky, I'll give you that , but I find the ride very comfortable

Also agree with you on the BMW front , and my dealer was a jerk also, but saying that, so is the Jag dealership where I bought mine.

My last six cars have been two jags (sound like John Prescott now) , two Aston Martins, and two BMW's. The Jags have been the best cars by far, in every way .

  6. Simon,

Found this, don't know if it's of any help .

" If the fan is running after you shut the car OFF it means the temp.sensor thinks it's still to hot regardless what the gauge says, we need to know the coolant level first and foremost then Two things:

#1- if the coolant level is very low after you shut the motor off the super heated coolant rushes back to the radiator and upper block triggering the fan to run on until it's satisfied the sensor. and IF you have a weak battery it will kill it to the point it won't restart the car.

#2 your fan relay is already at battery
voltage it just needs to be told to turn on by a control circuit(a temp.sensor, module, etc..The module controls components by giving them a ground path to turn on.hence the shorted wire theory OR the fan relay is stuck shut (contacts welded shut). In the relay box under the bonnet pull and swap the relay with one from say the lights( don't put the original one in until you see if it helps) then turn on the ignition then off and see if the fans run.If the fans run on a COLD engine and you plug in the relay and it clicks it;s working AND being TOLD to turn on by 1. temp sensor,2.module,3.shorted or pinched wire.

Another test , with the fans running pull the fan relay, see if they stop to eliminate a alternate power source to them, (melted connector, etc.)If it was the thermostat open or stuck shut you would see that on the temp gauge or the heater would be a cold blast.A good scan tool will tell you module problems, engine actual temp. "

  7. Matt,

Welcome , sorry about your little prang, hope all is well now . Love the look of the S type, the last "proper jag" , a throwback to the The Mark 2.

Used to have a XJ Supersport which was an ex Jag directors car , it had every extra you could dream about, including Kylie Minogue to wash it twice a week . It was a brilliant car, but according to the wife didn't look like a proper Jag ( like yours) . So she persuaded me to get rid of it . She said after I swapped the Aston Martin for it ( long story) it must have felt like going out with Miss World, and coming home with Susan Boyle.

I now have an XKR which I love to bits, considered getting an XKR-S, but the extra money for little extra performance just wasn't worth it .

    ATB,

    Trevor
