What was my S Type original specification
Hi Paul, I think that sometimes dealers will do a retrofit to please a customer, which will not show up against an original build. And sometimes a car will be classified as "a foreman's friend" and will have certain things factory fitted which do not show up on the original requirements. Backhanders to foremen are well known on the production line. Regards, Peter.

What was my S Type original specification
I used VinDecoderZ, Paul, and it gave me the exact specification as from Castle Bromwich. You can also check any Jaguar main dealer's site and you might find the optional extras able to be fitted. If you also google "Jaguar s type specifications" you could well find the specification for your year. Peter.

How much?
I agree, Gary. Many main dealers fit the shaped one which does look better, but most fit the rectangular one. Peter.

New Member Alert
Hi Gary, One thing I hate about some drivers is when you come round a traffic island this type of driver , who has gone round the island in the outside lane usually, pulls straight out into the outside lane on the dual carriageway and assumes you are going to drive slowly as a Jaguar is deemed by some to be an old man's car. This happened to me last Friday with a young man in a white BMW. I just put my foot down gently and the twin turbos did their job and I was 500 yards in front of him in seconds. He tried the same manoeuvre at the next island with the same result. Stupid boy! Regards, Peter

How much?
Hi Paul, My x type had quite a stylish rear plate, but my s type has the rectangular one. I think that I might go along and change it --- £12 is not expensive. Peter.

Service due reset
Hi Paul, If you go to the S Type forum and scroll back to page 5 you will see a post I put on on the 18th October 2014 which tells you how to do it. Let me know how you get on. Peter.

Service due reset
Hi Paul, You can do it manually and there is a post with directions on it. You need nimble fingers and I did it third go. I have an OBD2 scanner but I have not tried it on that message. I will look for the directions and get back to you, Peter.

Battery replacement
Hi Paul, There is quite a detailed procedure in the Owners handbook, and also one of the members posted a very good and detailed procedure. I have had to disconnect the battery on quite a few occasions when the park brake has been stuck. Resetting is quite easy, but connecting another battery in series is not a bad idea. You need to know the radio code before you do the job. Regards, Peter.

Spare key for X-type
Hi Don, and welcome to the club. Jaguar main dealers, and main dealers of other makes too, are notorious for their charges. A good locksmith will do as good a job for a portion of the cost. I know of a few in the Midlands, but if you google "Auto Locksmiths" I am sure that you will find one within reach. There is an Auto Electrics Company in Leeds [a bit far] who will do the job while you wait, so it is not a big job. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Symptoms of leaking cylinders?
Hi Chris, There is a topic on the Jaguar Owners Lounge -- a list of independent garages, and there is one near Preston and another in Manchester which might be worth looking at. Let is know how you get on. Regards Peter.

Symptoms of leaking cylinders?
Hi Chris, From what I have found --- on a Ford Forum --- is that P0251 is a generic code, and covers a multitude of issues surrounding glow plugs, injectors etc, or even a fuel leak somewhere along the fuel line. There was no mention of the fuel pump or leaking cylinders. It might be worth a second opinion. But I am not on engineer, just a former accountant, so I always Iook for the cheapest option. Regards, Peter.

Ipod connectivity
Hi Paul, I think there is some kind of ability to use these new fangled gadgets in cars but I don't have an iPod. Having come from the days when having a radio in a car was an optional extra, I am more than happy with a CD interchanger in the boot -- currently I have Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook, and two Ella Fitzgerald discs. Some members will know how to connect an iPod. Regards, Peter.

x type wobble?
Hi Richard, and welcome to the club. I had a similar experience with a Rover Sterling automatic some years ago and found that a front tyre was the problem. Similarly with my X type after a pothole incident -- a new pair of front tyres and the tracking corrected cures it. Regards, Peter, P.S. My X type was the same colour as yours --- suits the car!
- EEK! Trauma!!

2 stroke oil
Hi David, I have known several X type diesel owners who mix 2 stroke oil with another additive -- Millers, I think - whenever they fill up. They also used supermarket fuel, which most diesel users find cheaper but less efficient. A lot of thought has gone into what the oil companies put into their fuels, and I think that the amateur fuel fixer has a long way to go before getting to the stage when their mix of oils and additives is as good as Shell Vitro which I use [the nearest to me at 500 yards], BP and Esso equivalents do exist. I always advise the best stuff, as the engines are performance engines and need performance fuels. Regards, Peter.

New XF 2015 - as seen on TV!
Hi Tony, I think that the thoughts behind the engines used on the new XF are all based on the emissions and fuel economy. The use of aluminium to make cars lighter does enable Jaguar to utilise a smaller engine, which trend I think will continue with other manufactures doing the same. I drove past the new engine plant in Wolverhampton the other day, and it is rather vast, which indicated to me that Jaguar will be making a lot of engines and will be selling some of them to other car manufacturers. Just my thoughts. Regards, Peter.

access to XF front grill
Hi Warren, and welcome to the club. Tommy has made a vert good suggestion. I have used those small cavity bolts with wood and they are very easy to use. I hope you enjoy the club as well as you enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
