wing replacement
Welcome to the club, Mark. Andy has given you a very good tip. I hope you will enjoy your s type which is a future classic, in my opinion. Regards, Peter.

Very first Jaguar coming on Saturday.
Hi Gerard, The first s type we looked at was owned by a smoker ---- the smell was so bad we walked away. Get several air fresheners, and if the car is in a garage leave the windows open overnight. Give the carpets a good spray with the sort of freshener spray you can find in the bathroom. Persist daily and the smell will give up and go away. Regards, Peter.

Door Sensor Problem
Hi Les, and welcome to the club. Hopefully you will get the problem solved -- Ken is brilliant with this electric wizardry. Scousers live all over this country --- there is one from Scottie Road living in my house, and has done for the last 48 years! Regards, Peter. Widnesian in exile. P.S. I went to watch Liverpool once, Both Billy Liddell and Ray Lambert had great games, as did Tom Finney playing for the opponents, Preston North End.

Bluetooth 'no phone' display
Hi Rowley, My s type has a Varta Battery fitted with the date when fitted on it, which is very helpful. [02 2012] I have a least a couple of years left on it. Regards, Peter.

twin towing electrics
Welcome to the club, Mick. I am afraid I know little about electrics, always having my towbars [when I was still towing a caravan] fitted expensively by the local mobile fitter. Jaguar give little information how to make electrical connections, and maybe there will be someone with the electrical know how to assist. Regards, Peter.

Bluetooth 'no phone' display
Hi Rowley, The first thing to ask yourself is is the battery starting to lose power? Jaguars do have a lot of electrical equipment on them and often the Computer will shut down operations which it thinks are unnecessary, such a the rear screen demister, the radio and things not needed for the car to run. The second thing is fuses and earth connections. Regards, Peter.

Very first Jaguar coming on Saturday.
Welcome to the club, Gerard. The x type is a very nice car and Estate owners love the space in the back. I hope you enjoy the club as well as the car. Regards, Peter.

mpg?
I thought so too, but it doesn't compare with the 45 - 50 that the 2.7 diesel gives me! Peter.

Soon to be owner looking for advice
Hi Darren, and welcome to the club. You can find the standard spec of each model by googling the model you are looking for, and if you have a particular car in mid and have the vin number you can try vindecoderz which will give you the spec as it left the factory. There is often about £20k worth of options than can be fitted on the SE, which can include a proper spare wheel on a matching alloy, throw in carpets, Sat Nav, etc. The extras fitted are well worth checking out. Peter.

mpg?
Hi Michael, I usd to get between 32 and 35 mpg on the 100 miles between Birmingham and Leeds in my 2.5AWD on the M42 and M1. Cruise control on when the road was quiet, but mostly using the manual gearbox carefully, but still not hanging around. Peter.

Sat Nav problems in XF 3.0 Diesel
Hi Donald, I have just checked on the s type. 1 Agree 2 Destination --- then look to right of screen and you will see the map of Western Europe. If it is indicating anywhere other than the UK [presuming you are in the UK] select change and a list of countries will come up. Select the country. Regards, Peter.

Sat Nav problems in XF 3.0 Diesel
Welcome to the club, Donald. I think Alex is correct. I am not familiar with the XF touchscreen, but the S type allows you to set up a destination in various countries with the Western Europe map. It is quite easy to select the country on the s type. Regards, Peter.

Hello everybody
Welcome to the Club, Brent. There are quite a few members with electrical knowledge who will share their experiences with you. The S type is a great car to drive and it is a great pity that Jaguar discontinued the 2.5 litre on the S Type, while continuing its use on the X Type. Good luck with your search for the bits you need. Regards, Peter.

Windscreen Wipers
I changed mine about 9 months ago, but got replacement arms as it appeared that there was no easy way to disconnect the blades. The Jaguar main dealer nearest to me had a special offer -- £45 -- my local auto accessory shop got them for £30 and fitted them for me at no cost! Regards Peter.

problem with crackling sound
Hi Kenny, While ostensibly I worked in an office, my alleged expertise was in job evaluation, work study, and bonus schemes, and the only way to operate properly was to spend more time on the shop floor, and I have been in every department in many steelworks. In the sheet steel hand mills the quite thin sheets were left to cool before being sheared to size by hand, and you could hear them contracting slightly but noisily. Very interesting work. Regards, Peter.

Sports mode
Hi Gary, The computer seems to recalculate the range and fuel left with reference to the last journey made. The range on my 2.7D s type varies from 490 to circa 550 at times. I filled up last week after a lot of short journeys and it showed 494 miles range. I then drove exactly 50 miles mostly motorway but with a 15 minute traffic jam on the M6/A14 junction. I averaged 48.2 mpg, and the range left was 514, higher by 10 miles then when I started. Curious! Regards, Peter.

Door Sensor Problem
Hi Sean, and welcome to the club. I think that you should have the battery checked as the first option, to see that it is pushing out enough power. Jaguars have a lot of electrical equipment and when a battery is on the way out it can do strange things. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

hey
They try, but again, as has been said, there are a lot of different models of the x type, with different mpg. It is not only the model but also how they are driven and the terrain over which they are driven that can affect the mpg. I also think that it is fair to comment that many members have jobs that sometimes keeps them away from the club site, and even retired people like myself sometimes have several days on which they have some business to do that cannot be avoided. Regards, Peter.

Sat Nav question
Hi Paul, Usually Doris calculates three routes, and you select the one which meets your criterion. You do that by pressing "Change Route". But here is the bit that will be useless to you -- the only time I have had to do what you want to do, my son was a passenger and he did a lot of the button pressing and a new route came up! I am certain that there is a way to cancel guidance, and I will try to find it when I am doodling around sometime. Regards, Peter.

Dealer servicing rip off?!
Hi All, I had company cars for 29 years, changing usually every year early on when my mileage was high, and every two years when I was on the road less. I often had issues with main dealers, and was inclined to check small details after a service. I have had a car with loose wheel nuts, several with rocker box gasket not fitting correctly, and once with an anti roll bar fault which the Garage said did not exist, and only changed their mind when I blocked the only entrance to the garage, causing a jam in the centre of Lichfield as cars could not get into the garage. The issue was rectified when the Police talked to the dealer! The worst was when one of my staff took his car into a dealer a week before the warranty expired for a full health check which is passed with flying colours. Two weeks later he took it in for a service and found that the bill was just over £2000 -- and this was in 1995! I only found this out when my Head Office rang me. I immediately went to the dealer and asked them for the parts they had allegedly replaced, why they had not found any faults three weeks before, and why it had only taken three hours to do the service but had charged for 7 hours. They reduced the charge to a "token" £100! Regards, Peter.

new x type owner.
Hi Mike, and welcome to the club. I had an X Type 2.5 AWD with a 2005 plate, and found it a very good car. There is a lot of Ford parts in the X type --- good technology. I am unsure about the answer to your request, but I would suggest a phone call to someone like the David Manners Group or SNG Barratt who are both reliable parts suppliers. Regards, Peter.
