  1. Welcome to the Club, Martin. I hope you will enjoy the club, and your expertise with these lovely cars will benefit many members. Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the Club, Steve. I was quite interested in the same model a couple of years ago, in Black with all the bells and whistles, but it had a long wheel base, and the dealer warned that the insurance would be very high as it belonged to the Queen's fleet. I hope you enjoy the club. I know you will enjoy the car. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Frank, I think the papers were just throwing up something that Boris Johnson had said about exclusion zones. The biggest problem is that emissions from any car are higher when they are ticking over and London traffic is not noted for quick trips through the city. Regards, Peter.
  4. Plus the difference between 45 mpg and 25 mpg.
  5. Currently the diesel engine emissions [nitrous oxide] are taxed a lot less than petrol engine emissions [Co2] by about £200. Taxing cars on emissions was part of the decisions by the EU and supported by all member nations to control the effect of exhaust gases on the environment. Diesel engines had to reduce soot particles which they did with the introduction of a Diesel Particular filter which periodically requires regeneration or in common parlance a "burn off" by about 20 minutes at over 45mph + --- not difficult. I have never had a problem with the DFP. EGR valves will be fitted to all new cars in the next few years, including petrol engined cars -- some already are. Currently the 2.7 diesel engine in Jaguars is taxed at £285 a year, and the 3.0 litre petrol at £485. I don't think any vehicles meeting the EU4 directives will have a tax increase. I think what MIGHT occur is that all diesel powered vehicles not meeting EU4 directives will have to have Diesel Particulate retro fitted. Over 50% of cars in the uk are currently diesel powered which is a thought that politicians will consider. After all, car owners have votes. Peter.
  6. Hi Paul, and welcome to the club, . I believe the 6 speed auto gearbox was introduced on the s type in 2003, with the same gearbox going into the 2.7Diesel introduced in 2004. I don't think that the gearbox was changed after that. You will enjoy the S Type. Sir William Lyons described the Mk1 as having Grace, Pace and Space. The s type has all three also! Regards, Peter.
  7. Hi David, That is a very interesting link. I had the 2006 disc when I got my car, and uprated it from SatNav updates 20 the last disc made for the s type, at a cost of £29. I had wondered why I was sometimes taken on a slightly different route on occasion. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi David, A good long drive is always useful in a new [to you] car, as you find out a lot about it. The lack of parking beeps could be the module, the sensors or the speaker. It could also be a fuse or a misconnection. You should get a better mpg with steady driving and I think that the Terraclean service might sort that out. I rather like the SatNav, but I experienced something strange yesterday. I have it set to use Toll Roads as I am only 4 miles from the M6 Toll and also the quickest route. Doris [the Satnav] took me exactly to the main car park in Church Stretton, Shropshire via the M6 Toll but avoided the normal motorway connection to the M54. I found that there were severe roadworks on that connection. Coming back, it avoided the toll road completely and took me back to Exit 7 of the M6. I wondered if she knew about the Roadworks? Still, the main thing is that you enjoyed the car. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Frankie, I am assuming that you have the 3 litre V6 Diesel, which is not a dissimilar engine to the 2.7 D in the s type. In the V6 engine the EGR valves are situated at ether side of the engine and being from an accountancy background I always look for the most economic way of solving the problem. I have found that a good blast on the A38 in 3rd gear with the revs over 2,500 rpm will cure the issue. Also Wynns produce a spray that you spray into the air intake which also works. I have not had any problems with the DPF [yet]. One of the things I did and found well worthwhile was to give the engine a terraclean service which did improve the performance and the mpg. Regards, Peter. PS. I forgot that you had said that your car had the 2.7 Diesel engine which is the same as my s type! Senior moment!
  10. Hi Newroshina, and welcome to the club. I have not come across this rather curious issue. Fuel must move slightly in the tank and I always thought that there were baffles in the tank to control this slightly. I do believe that Jaguar now use plastic tanks instead of the coated steel tanks formerly used. I think that it is possible that some of the soundproofing round the tank could have been disturbed which is designed to prevent exterior noise getting into the cabin. It might be worth checking it out. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Frank, Your experiences with an issue that us diesel owners care about are very useful, and is not advertising in my opinion. I have not had the dpf problem, but I do get the occasional EGR valves sticking. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Josh, When there is a long job to be done I usually calculate how much my time is worth as against how much the labour costs are. It could be a long job, and it could be raining! Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Kenny, and welcome to the club. Does the engine turn over OK? And have you checked the fuel punp? I am not an engineer but hazarding a guess that fuel is not getting to the engine. Another member might hazard a guess too. Regards, Peter.
  14. Looks really great, Tomas!
  15. Welcome to the Club, Joe. I hope you enjoy the Club as much as your XJ. A Jaguar Flagship. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Tim, A common issue with the S Type is a slight water ingress in the boot. My drive slopes slightly from left to right and water used to gather just by the battery --- not good. I put this down to the car standing at the dealers for four months, and after try some sealant I found the solution was to put some kitchen tissue in the area where the water collected and replace after a heavy shower. The water seemed to know it was foiled, and after the car had six months of daily use, the water ingress has stopped and I have had a year of a perfectly sealed boot. I once had a Ford Escort [Company Car] from new which after a heavy shower had the drivers footwell filled with water. It wen back four or five times without being cured, till I eventually found a hole in the wheel arch where a grommet was missing! It saved me from drilling a hole in the bottom of the footwell. Peter.
  17. Welcome to the club, Malcolm. Vey nice car, and white suits it very well. I hope you enjoy both the Club and your Jaguar. Regards Peter.
  18. Hi Robert, I had an x type 2.5AWD and found that folding rear seats were an option as mine didn't have them either. The x type has the largest boot of the then Jaguar range and is quite bigger than the s type, surprisingly. You can check the complete specification of your car by googling VinDecoderz which is a rather good site. Regards, Peter.
  19. Correct, David. I never use "Own Brand" things like batteries. Luckily, at the end of our road there is a small Auto accessory shop who will get you exactly what you want if he hasn't got it in stock. Jaguar usually fit Varta batteries and they are dated when installlled. And with guarantees, I always photocopy them, fold them so the light doesn't get to them, and if it is car related I put it in the folder I keep all receipts, MOTs, tyre replacements etc. Peter.
  20. Hi David, A lot of modern cars need a bigger battery, and owners should always follow the guidance in the handbook. The Jaguar is a complex car and if the battery is starting to fail the car will determine was it can shut down to keep the car going. Usually the radio is first, then the electrical screen demisters and so on. Halford offer a 5 year guarantee, so it must be safe to assume that a battery may start to fail when it is just over five years old. Regards, Peter.
  21. I hope this works, Tom.
  22. Cleopatra, David. "Nigra sum, et Pulchra" -- Soloman. Peter.
  23. Hi Tom, I have googled around and find that it is in the roof lining at the rear. Jaguar dealers can use their password to get to the detail, but they appear to want to keep how to do it a secret. There is a diagram on another site but I was uncertain if it was for an x type. I will continue looking and send you the link. Regards, Peter.
  24. Welcome to the club, Tom. There are quite a few x type estate owners who will assist you here. On my x type saloon the reversing sensor module was to the left of the spare wheel, and it is the same on my s type. Regards, Peter Lancastrian in Exile.
  25. Hi Neil, I have been advised that Supermarket diesel is inferior to standard forecourt Diesel. I used Sainsburys diesel for about three months due to some very good 10p a litre offers, and noticed the drop in performance and mpg. I now use Shell Vitro and although it is about 7p a litre dearer I get a very good mpg - usually about 45 mpg on a longish run [i got 53mpg once] and about 30 mpg knocking around the City. You may get told that the tankers all fill up from the same depot with the same fuel, which they do, but the Supermarkets do not put in the additives that the big companies do -- Shell, Esso, BP etc. Regards, Peter.
