  1. XK8 owners --- any thoughts? Peter.
  2. I tried to organise a meet last October in Gaydon at the Classic Car museum, but it did not really get off the ground --- possibly either the date or members might have not thought too well of getting to and from the big conurbation that is the West Midlands. Perhaps leafy Cheshire might provide a good venue. Peter.
  3. Hi John, and welcome to the Club. Not firing correctly could be one of a few things. I am not an expert but I had the same problem on my Rover sterling a few years ago with a power loss and it was the coil pack. I got the new part from BreakerYard and my mechanic fitted it. My S type is a diesel and if not firing correctly I would also suspect injectors or glow plugs. Members with the 3 litre engine could also advise. Regards Peter. P.S. There is a list of independent Jag specialists on the Jaguar Owner Lounge which could assist.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Matthew. A good battery of the correct size is essential for Jaguars, as there are a lot of electrical bits that need power. On the Jaguar, you will find that if a battery is failing and not holding a charge the less essential functions of the car close down, and I guess that warning lights are amongst those. When you gave the car a run you were definitely in limp home mode, and an OBD2 reader should tell you why. Let us know how you get on. The s type is a great car and the 3 litre petrol engine is a unit well used by Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  5. David, when this rebuild is finished, I think a lot of members would like to see the result. Perhaps a meet somewhere suitable would be a great day out, too. Peter.
  6. Ian, I think what you have suggested is the correct route. And probably the cheapest. Taking out the petrol tank to get at something fairly fundamental does seem a bit drastic. Peter.
  7. Stan, A lump hammer, an adjustable spanner, a No. 8 stillson and a pair of pliers. Peter.
  8. My Mechanic who has serviced/repaired my cars for about 13 years likes the quietness of the 2.7 Twin Turbo diesel in my s type. He saves the exhaust experience for his big motorbike. On my 1962 Honda Dream which I bought when it was only a few months old, the very quiet exhaust had been replace by twin pipes which gave a great sound. A Sporty saloon needs a good sound now and then! Peter
  9. It could be , Stan. There are two codes referring to the APP and a very indeterminate answer from Fixya, but both seem to indicate a failing/failed sensor. Peter.
  10. Trevor, Clarkson spent a long time telling people about the Ford supercar he had ordered at a cost of £250k which turned out to be a complete lemon, and which he quietly got rid of after several occasions when the engine completely shut down after telling him that the car had been stolen when he was actually driving it. My s type also has a dipstick which I think does not give me a correct reading. The engine was replaced by Jaguar at 21,000 miles and I feel that the dipstick tube what not put on correctly. But the car tells me that the oil level is OK and I use Castrol Magnatec. Peter.
  11. Hi mjr, The fault code P1576 is the Accelerator position fault code -- it could be a failed APP sensor. It could be something to do with the throttle body. But not being an engineer I don't know how to fix it! Regards, Peter.
  12. My s type has a proper spare wheel with matching alloys rim. Specified as a extra by the first owner. I like it! Peter.
  13. Age is a relative thing. I don't feel old when I am driving, especially when a boy racer flashes me when I am doing 70 on the A38 or the Motorway and I can leave him standing . After all, I am not 81 till June! Peter
  14. Welcome to the Club, Declan. Nice car and a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing! You will enjoy that car! Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the club, Richard. The auto dim is a wonderful invention and well worth having. I have it on my s type. There are some members who will know how to do what you will need to do. Good Luck, Peter.

Hi David, Sometimes a good blast cures whatever it is. My diesel gets it when the EGR valves get sticky. Regards, Peter. PS- The S type 2.5 petrol also has EGR Valves. I would still get the OBD2 code reader.
  17. Welcome to the club, Billy. There are lots of experiences to share. which is very useful. The most difficult thing with parking sensors is finding which one it is. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Rodney. Possibly the parking sensor unit itself is faulty, rather than the ECU. There is topic in the Jaguar Owners Lounge Forum which lists recommended Independent Garages which tend to be cheaper and better than the main dealers. There is a Jaguar specialist in Doncaster which is highly thought of. Regards, Peter.

Hi David, Have you got a OBD2 code reader? It will tell you the code number and then you can find out exactly what engine malfunction it is. I got one from BV electronics - cost £20. [via eBay] If you have a friendly mechanic/garage they will do a diagnostic check for you. Main Dealers will also do a check for about £70, as it only takes a few minutes --- they are too expensive for me! Let us know how you get on. Peter.
  20. Hi Michael and welcome to the Club. Richard has had a very bad experiece with his XF. There are several members who have done the job you are looking at, and will point you in the right direction. I do not get oily hands any more! Regards, Peter.
  21. WOW! Hard work, but what a result. Peter.
  22. Hi Dan, My 2005 X Type SE [2005] did not have those items and it came from a top dealer with whom I have had business connections for over 30 years. Aldi sell a good fire extinguisher of £8.99, and I will get a warning triangle before I go on holiday. I have also put together a first aid box. Those bit you mention are the ones that Jaguar d not put in cars, but hope you will buy them! Regards, Peter.
  23. There is also a strap in my s type Dan, and it is for holding something of your choice in place. I have a canister of WD40, and a pint bottle with screen washer in mine. Peter.
  24. My favourite colour is blue, but when my wife saw a gleaming X Type 2.5 SR AWD in the same red as Ruby she just had to have it, and absolutely loved it, as did I. But a pair of car jackers also liked it and drove off into the sunset. It appears they are now doing 8 years in Her Majesty's local guest house. But my wife told me to turn a disaster into an opportunity and an Indigo Blue S Type has been our possession for 18 months. Peter.
  25. Hi Chris and welcome to the club. Diesel engines do need a clean out now and then. I had my 2.7D Terracleaned [cost around £120] and it made a great deal of difference. It will clean out all the fuel systems and I think cleaning the injectors is a bit cheaper than replacing them. Let us know how you get on. Peter.
