  1. I had my speedometer checked b the Warwickshire Police on the 7th July. They told me that I was doing exactly 50 mph, which is exactly what my speedometer read. The road was a 40 mph speed area. Peter.
  2. Hi Adrian, Some good suggestions worth trying already. There s a topic on Independent garages in the Jaguar owners lounge and you may find one fairly close to Warrington. I did not that there is a garage recommended in Manchester in that list of independent garages. I will have a look around and see if I can find what you are looking for. Regards, Peter. [born and bred in Widnes, but now in exile in the Midlands]
  3. Hi Stuart, Jaguar recommend that until a baby is weighing in at 20lbs, a rear facing seat with a harness should be used. There is also some mention of fitting detail in the S Type manual, which may not apply to the XK. Car seats have come a long way since I had them in my Austin A40 Farina Style! Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Teresa, Kenny has most likely hit the nail on the head. Electrical issues are high on the list of a modern car failing to start. A code reader comes in quite cheaply from amazon. Good luck, and I hope you get that lovely car back on the road where it belongs, Regards, Peter,
  5. Welcome to the Club, Teresa. There is a member with his own Jaguar business in Greater London who might spot this. There are several other s type R owners who also might be able to shed light on the problem. Good Luck, Peter.
  6. I sawit too, Neville. I also know that the Police in Birmingham found over 2000 blank BMW keys fobs in a house in the city. I am rather glad that my s type has a normal key and fob entry. Peter.
  7. Welcome to the Club, David. The club is a very friendly club with a mix of Jaguar owners across the ages who have one thing in common -- their enjoyment and love of these iconic cars. I hope that you enjoy the Club as much as you have enjoyed your Jaguars. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi Colin, I does look as if you have a poor battery. A member bought a car with a new battery fitted by the garage that sold it him, but he had several "failures" such as radio not working etc. He sent me a photo of the battery and it was only a 54 amp whereas you need something quite a bit bigger -- 74 amp or so. If you have a friendly accessory shop [that sells batteries] you can ask the shop assistant if he would check it for you. Halfords can be helpful, at times When I had a caravan, the battery I used was an 110 amp. Regards, Peter.
  9. I had a look at the highlighted forum, and the first topic I read was about the amount of snobbishness [if that is the right word] on the Forum, and which also mentioned a touch of nastiness occasionally. While I don't disagree that some of the information was not bad [not brilliant, though], I think that being more friendly is not too hard. Just my opinion. Peter.
  10. Trevor, if you never try you lose an experience. I once sent a packet of 3 cream biscuits back to Edinburgh because there was no cream in them, asking them to put in the cream and return them. They sent me a 6lb box of biscuits. I sent a tin of sardines back to a company in Norway because there was no key on the tin. They sent me 8 tins in return. At the worse Jaguar will tell you of go away. At the best they will send you an XE. Peter.
  11. Hi Karl, I do not know the layout for power points in the XF, but the S Type has a power point in the centre console armrest, as well as at the front just above the gear change. An XF owner might be able to assist. Peter.
  12. Next, Scott, are some pictures. The Jaguar experience is worth waiting for. Peter.
  13. Hi Trevor, I would be inclined to write to the Dealer from whom you bought the car, and indicate that you are unhappy with what they told you when the car was purchased. When I bought my S Type last July Stratstone assured me that the car had had a full service. It had also been given an MOT in the March and they did not propose to give it another. I insisted on a new MOT, which I got. Additionally, I had my mechanic look over it and he passed it as fully fit. Prior to the warranty running out I prepared a list of niggles and booked the car into Stratstone for a full written report on all matters, even down to tyre tread and brake pad wear. They rectified a minor problem I had with the climate control and regassed the system. I was well known for nitpicking with anything I bought and will continue to be so. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Colin, Someting elseI have thought about is DSC. DSC should always be switched on [unless you are a boy racer] and Cruise Control is unavailable if switched off. It could be that you have inadvertently switched of CC or that you have experienced a bit of slippy road . I inadvertently switched off DSC when putting on the seat heater the other day, so it is possible. Regards, Peter.
  15. My Code reader has stopped working for some reason. My mechanic's code reader works fine on my car, but it did cost over 5 times more. I need a similar car to mine to find out what is wrong with it I am thinking of getting another but I am looking for the most reliable I can find. Regards, Peter. p.s. I used to know Port Talbot quite well when I was employed. Old Steelworker!
  16. Hi Colin, The club is about exchanging experiences which usually assist. I bought a code reader [OBD2], but it stopped working for some unknown reason. Luckily I have not had to use it since I found out it had stopped working. The Jaguar main dealers will charge about £70 for half an hour to remove the message. Next time you are driving, I would also check your if Cruise Control is working. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Colin, I have not had this happen to me, but I have heard of it happening before. A suggestion is to check out the battery, as a slightly failing battery can play havoc with some of the less important electrical features. If the battery is getting old or is a little discharged things like cruise control, radio etc will not function properly. I had a problem with the rear demister, which was cured by putting the battery on charge for an hour. Meanwhile, some of our members might have had the same problem and will probably be able to assist. Regards, Peter,
  18. Welcome to the club, Jack. I am afraid I have little expertise in matters so technical, but there are quite a few members very knowledgeable in these matters who I am sure will give assistance. Regards Peter.
  19. Hi Andrew, I tried to get detailed statistics of the S type production on all models. A lot of them went to California where they loved them, although I did see one in Phoenix, Arizona. They were made during the Ford ownership and were mostly designed in Detroit, and Ford were not very good at the paperwork, being more concerned with engineering. Being a pensioner, I was more concerned with good mpg and an inexpensive road fund licence than I was for the exhilaration of the R model. At the same time, my S Type 2.7D is no slouch with incredible acceleration with the s button pressed down and both turbochargers cutting in. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Kenny, I didn't find anything that looked that suitable around Swansea/Neath. You are quite right about the small number of indies in South Wales. I was drawn to the Garage in Nantgarw by a mention of them on another Forum, by someone who said that they sent their Jaguars there for serviciing etc. The address is Cardiff Rd, Nantgarw, CF15 7SR. There is also another one that looks OK: Sterling Jaguars,Swffyd Rd, Crumlin. NP11 5DW. Regards, Peter.
  21. Welcome to the club, Andrew. The S type is a great car, and there are not many of the R models around. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Kenny have just been having a google around and come across a garage in Nantgarw, as well as a couple of others. They might be worth looking into. Peter.
  23. Welcome to the Club, Adrian. There are not many e types around and I look forward to the photos. And I think you will enjoy the Club. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Margaret, I have just had a look on eBay and you can get one for between about £25 tp £45. And I am quite sure you would be able to fit it yourself. Other than that, Euro Parts, David Manners group, or Rimmer Bros. Regards, Peter.
