  1. Hi MJ, I had a 220 round trip to Leeds on Sunday -- A5, M42, A42, M1 with speed restrictions for about 60 miles total and got 45.2 mpg. Last month I got 53 mpg on a 90 mile trip to Sheffield. On the question of coolant, check when the coolant was last changed before flushing out. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Paul, I think you can download an owners manual from the internet for nowt. Just Google Jaguar x type owners Manual.
  3. Hi, MJ, I currently have half a tank full of the diesel version of V power. I do get a better fuel consumption and the car does perform better, but I have not noticed the fan staying on a bit after switching off. I have a 25 miles round trip this afternoon and I will look for that. Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Paul. It must be electrical so the first thing I would do is to check the connections to the horns. Getting the WD40 out could be a good idea, and much gentler than the lump hammer. Regards, Peter.
  5. That must be an issue, Tom. I think that Cruise control doesn't work at low speeds, & with manual gearboxes it could go off if the speed dropped too much -- but I have never thought about it. I think with automatics putting the car into lower gears -- easy with the J gate, but I have never used the modern style of gear change --- might slow the car down. But I still don't know for sure. Peter
  6. Hi Tom, I would add to your absolutely correct list, heavy traffic, indeed all times the car needs human control. Peter.
  7. Hi Dominique, and welcome to the Club. I don't know the XF layout, but I think you have diagnosed that it is an electrical problem. I think it must be a faulty connection somewhere. Also I would check that the battery is fully charged. Maybe an XF owner will be able to shed some light on the matter. Regards, Peter.
  8. You are catching me up, Ernest. I am a young 80 and still have urges to drive a bit quicker, but I have a speed limiter in my car. Peter.
  9. I's still using CDs, though my children all have iPods and suchlike technical things. We had a DAB radio but it ate batteries and eventually failed totally. I suppose that I will eventually come round to modernising a bit and I did buy a sound bar to improve sound quality on my TV. Peter.
  10. Hi Kenny, I always do a frequent tyre pressure check but I use an old fashioned pressure gauge and a compressor. Regards, Peter.
  11. You should have had it by now, James. I am sure Steve [Admin] will pick this up. Peter.
  12. Hi Karl, I'm glad you are pleased with the terraclean. I went up to Leeds yesterday with quite heavy traffic all the way and speed restrictions on the M1, and an hold up due to an accident on the M1/M62 Junction on the way back, although after Derby the M1 was clear mostly and the A42/M42 was pretty good and I was able to do 70 mph[ish]. The s type 2.7D engine returned 45.2 mpg for the round trip. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome too from me Ernest. I hope you enjoy the club. Your x Type is only just run in at 43k. Regards, Peter.
  14. The Jaguar is a performance car, and tyres should also be an important plus a personal choice. I have Pirellis all round and find them quite good. I have some knowledge of Vredestein tyres and they appear to have a good reputation. There is a local tyre specialist whose prime tyre is Vredestein which is a Dutch/american collaboration. This trye specialist fits tyres to the Stobart lorries locally, too, so he must be good. I am seriously thinking of putting them on next. Peter.
  15. Hi Alonzo, Welcome to the Club. I don't think I have heard of anyone putting a Cummins Diesel into a Jaguar S type, although many years ago I did see a Ford Popular engine in a MG Magnette. Regards, Peter.
  16. A new F type will have and extra element of Road Tax for the first purchaser, after that £500 a year. Peter
  17. Scott, I think the XF you will be loaned is a diesel, and could be the same engine as mine - or the 3 litre. Still pretty quick, though. Trevor, I have the service required notice coming up on my car, too. It is to do with the mileage or date last scheduled service. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the Club, Phillip, The M1 has long spells of those overhead average speed cameras which do have a slight bonus. I become a bit pragmatic and stay in the inside land and think about how much fuel I am saving -- a few weeks ago I managed to get 53 mpg on a 90 mile trip. I don't travel down to Port Talbot now that I have retired but I did get told by a policeman in a white unmarked Vauxhall Cavalier that I had reached a speed of 113 mph on Sarn Hill in a 1.6 Montego on the way to Swansea in 1987. The Bridgend Magistrates were quite understanding!! Enjoy you S Type -- great cars. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Charlie, I tried to send you a PM but your messager appeared to be disabled. Email me on franandpeter1@gmail.com or enable you JOC messaged. Regards, Peter.
  20. Welcome to the Club, Luiz. I am not an expert but I can tell you that the Jaguar XJ is a very good, iconic car. Personally I would go for the 4.2 Litre engine which was used by Jaguar into the 21st Century and was the power source for the S Type R and the XKR for years. Just buy it, get in and enjoy the Jaguar experience Regards Peter.
  21. Hi Dave, and welcome to the club. I had my 2.7D s type put through the terra clean service and it has made a world of a difference. It is worth the £120 or so cost, asit has given me a better fuel consumption [53 mpg on one trip of 90 miles] and a much smoother engine. Also I do not use supermarket diesel, and I find that the occasional fill up of the expensive stuff gives the engine a treat. After all, it is a jaguar! I hope that you enjoy the club. Regards, Peter.
  22. I often enjoy a drive without music or even the radio on, just listening to the gentle rumble of the rather quiet 2.7 diesel and the whooshhhh you get when you press the S button and take the engine up to 4000 revs.
  23. I have used Formula 1 once and they tried to diddle me, as did Kwik Fit. The good indies are the best, although I have a local very small Halfords that isn't too bad on it's tyre service, Peter.
  24. Hi All, Just a quiet suggestion. There are certain topics that I think we should avoid, particularly those where people have strong convictions. Religion and politics come to mind --- there may be others such as Manchester United and Yorkshire Cricket Club. Regards, Peter.
