  1. Hi Adam, Your last suggestion seems the best/less costly. It seems that only resticking is required. Peter.
  2. Hi Andrew and welcome to the Club. SatNav Updates sold me an update for around £30 and it works OK. I think it is the last version produced that is suitable for the X Type and S Type with touchscreen. [2012/2013]. It installed quite easily. I just put the disc in and it read it OK. Peter.
  3. Hi Simon, I believe you can get a second hand interchanger from several sources -- Eurojags being one of them. As to fitting, I would be inclined to check out a good auto electrician in your area, as their might be some electronic wizardry to conquer. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi David, See my post above to get stickers. You will need to send Steve a PM with your full address. Peter.
  5. Hi Simon, Welcome to the Club. After disconnecting the battery, the radio etc has a safety code, usually 4 digits, that will enable the radio etc to work. The previous owner should have it. If you bought it from a dealer they should have given it to you. There are garages that can find the code, but they will charge, as will main dealers. When you get the code, write it down somewhere safe for future reference. Regatds, Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.
  6. Welcome to the club, Chris. Changing glow plugs is not the easiest of jobs, apparently. I say "apparently" as I don't get oily hands any more, but I did find a diagram on a web side called fixya, but I have since checked the site and someone has removed it. You have located the plugs, and the basic instruction is to go carefully. If you look back on the s type forum - about December 2013 - you will find some advice from members who have changed the plugs. I will continue to look around and let you know what I find. My s type is a 2.7D SE, and a couple of months ago I had the Terraclean process done on the engine and it has made quite a difference to both performance and mpg. The process costs circa £125 and could well be cheaper than replacing 6 glow plugs, as it cleans the fuel system thoroughly. Regards, Peter.
  7. I am glad it is sorted out, Ray. Sometimes dealer/mechanics make mistakes. I had a brand new Ford Escort that was losing oil, and I found the day after I got it that the Rocker Box gasket was missing. Peter.
  8. Welcome to the Club, VM. I have just read a review of an oldish XJR in the Quarterly Issue of GOOD MOTORING, the magazine of GEM motoring assistance. It tells me that you have a very good car! Regards, Peter.
  9. Welcome to the Club Andrew. Your XJS looks very nice indeed. regards, Peter.
  10. The issues mentioned were not specific to the XK and could apply to any of the Jaguar models and indeed, to many other cars. Paintwork, & laying up for the winter are not peculiar issues with just the Jaguar XK. I had both issues with my XR3i convertible.
  11. The XK forum is about the XK model. Occasionally a new member, unused to the Club and the varied forums , may post a question or comment on what could be the incorrect forum. Rather than make an issue of something very minor in what after all is a friendly club, I prefer to let things lie. Being a retired horny handed son of toil - former steelworker and farm labourer - I am not too bothered about where people write or say things, but rather on what they say. Peter.
  12. Good advice, Neil. The issue with batteries on the S Type has come up several times. There are loads of accessory shops and small garages who will check your battery free of charge. Peter.
  13. The original post was concerning an XK8, with a specific problem concerning paint bubbling, and requesting advice. The original post post also referred to a comparison between several models, and comments with regard to that topic also received some interest, with owners of one of the models in question offering advice. I am aware that the topic was raised in the X Type forum, but I am not in the business of chiding a new member for posting a topic that could apply to any car in a forum titled "X Type Club". I hope that clarifies your comment. Peter,
  14. Hi Noel and welcome to the club. There is a fuse and I think it is in the boot fuse box, F46, 10 amp. Let us know if that is successful. If it isn't try a squirt of WD40 9 in the offending area.. Cheap and sometimes works. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the Club, Raymond. I think Charlie is quite correct. Jaguar tell you that it is better for the car to keep the Climate control on all the time. I get a "Service Required" message coming up, but I know the car has just had one. What it means is that Jaguar service the car just over a year ago. I will plug in the diagnostic reader to abolish it when the reader decides to recognise the car again. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Kevin, I have heard of gearbox oil changes alone costing about £275 + at a main dealer. When I had a motor cycle [0ver 50 years ago] I used to change the oil every two weeks. Such are the advances in oil technology some oils [Castrol Magnatec, for instance] are guaranteed for 20k miles. You have got a very good price. Regards, Peter.
  17. To get a sticker, click on Members on the bar above - and send a pm to Steve [barnes] Admin.
  18. Hi Robert, I would be inclined to leave the battery in the car, if you are garaging it at your own home, and charge it once a month. On the question of the paintwork bubble, there are two courses of acton I would choose from, without seeing it, of course. The first is to sand it down, give it a good undercoat and repaint, and the second is to take it to a good body shop and get it done professionally. Peter.
  19. Hi Peter, Welcome to the club. My s type is Indigo Blue Metallic. The suggestion you have already had are very good. Regards, Peter. Exiled Lancastrian.
  20. That is a good price, Kevin. The oil change comes in a bit expensive and I feel you are not being ripped off. Peter.
  21. I only have money because I am married. The best financial advisor I have ever had is my wife of 47 years. If I want something I ask , and if the answer is no that's it. But when I wanted a Jaguar, the answer was Yes on both occasions. Top lady! Peter.
  22. Well done, Bill. I hope the sun shone in Blackpool! Peter.
  23. Hi Kevin, I bought a late model S type with 48k on the clock, so I hope to stay clear of main dealers for a bit! 124k is not a big mileage for that engine. Are they doing an oil change on the gearbox? Peter.
  24. Most bits of cars are made by the same manufacturers. I was a bit involved in the Automotive industry with my job and found that there are quite a few companies make engine and ancillary parts for all the big manufacturers. Peter.
  25. I bought a fault code reader, but it stopped connecting with the car for some reason. I will do as Stan says and jiggle it around a bit. Peter.
