Sat-nav update
Hi Steve, About the mpg. I have the 2.7 diesel engine in my s type and the best mpg I have got is 49.2 on a 90 mile journey with only 22 miles on the motorway, and am getting generally getting 46 mpg on longer runs with over 35 locally. I assume your XF has twin turbos, as my s type has, and what you need to do to get a better mpg is to keep the speed at a level before the second turbo comes in, which in my case a nudge below 2000rpm which gives me just under 70mph. Hope that helps. Peter.

Electrical fault
Hi Robin, First question:- Is you battery OK? If it is, the fault message could well be linked to sensors failing. The gearbox is supposedly sealed for life, but some members have changed the oil at circa 75,000 miles and have noticed a big difference. The oil is a bit expensive, but it is important to use the right stuff. Peter

X Type diesel low temperature
Hi Craig. I am not advertising, but I had my s type 2.7 diesel Terracleaned over a month ago and it has made the world of a difference, both in performance and economy. And my engine has only done 35,000 miles. Look it up on Google before making your mind up. Peter.

Recaro Seats
Welcome to the Club, Bob. I have seen programmes about changing seats, and and getting similar electrics does seems to be the right way to go. I would try to find a good upholsterer in you area. Also there might well be a member who has done the job who will assist and advise. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Nothing wrong with the North. I am heading up to Lancashire on Sunday to watch Widnes beat Castlefod in the semi finals of the RL Challenge cup. Peter.

Trevor, If your SatNav is working, then the disc is in the player. That is a sine qua non of the workings of this sophisticated technology.

Help parking sensors
Welcome to the Club, Craig. I think that the reason the parking sensors were not plugged in was simply that they were not working. They cost about £15/20 each, and if you can find which one is faulty it will save you a few shillings. The other scenario is that the sensor module is not working. There are two options. The first is to replace them. the second is to unplug them and reverse like you did before sensors were invented. A tow bar does take some of the impact! It would be worth trying to find out which sensor is not working properly --- try a good independent Jaguar specialist, or a good mechanic with the diagnostic equipment. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

The last king of Scotland was Field Marshall the Reverend Doctor Idi Amin, VC and two Bars, Dada, and the next will be King Alex Salmon. He thinks that the Scottish need to be governed by the Scottish. The corollary is that Nursery should be run by babies, prisons should be run by criminals, and lunatic asylums should be run by lunatics. That is purely an aside. I am very interested in the solution that hopefully Simon will find to sort out his CD player at the weekend. My weekend will feature driving my S type up North to Leigh [pronounced Leyth] when the Leythers are being hosts to Widnes playing Castleford in the Rugby League Challenge Cup semi final.

Accessory position?
My S type [2007] has the antiquated key to start the car. Position 1 lets the radio etc come on without starting the engine. I don't know why Jaguar changed it. But there will be other XF drivers who might know. Peter.

JOC Meet.
We need a few more names on the list --- I intend to go on that date as the weather will be fine, Local Jaguar owners wanted to welcome those coming from a long way away. Peter.

white s type
I have heard that, too, Trevor. Apparently dark green used to be the worst colour for accidents. Our company cars were all the same colour, and in 1971 we all had Dark Green Metallic. Then someone said that bright yellow was the colour with the least number of accidents, so we all had to have yellow in 1972. There was no difference in the number of shunts. Eventually the powers that be allowed us to choose our preferred colour. Peter.

white s type
There is one sometimes seen in the West Midlands. A friend of mine restored a Mk1 in the early sixties which was white. Quite a rare colour, though. Peter.

Jaguar Owners Lounge, Paul. You have a very nice car, and if anything jars in its appearance you have got to get it right for your satisfaction. Peter.

Hi Simon, I have had a look at the X Type handbook, but the one I found by googling said very little about the CD Changer. When I was changing some discs of my S type on one occasion they would not work. I must have had a senior moment as I had put them in the wrong way! Otherwise, I must think it would be connections/fuse. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Simon. I had problems trying to pair my phone with a 2005 X type and came to the conclusion that there was no phone connection. Has you car got the touch screen? If so, use the Audio button which makes it easy. If not, I will search my memory of the x type for a solution. Meanwhile, enjoy your car -- The Jaguar experience is a bit unique. Regards, Peter.

XF weak paint?
Yes, Trevor. My Rover Sterling was a Director's Car. It was bought by a company which then leased it back to the MD of the Main Dealer who "sold" it to the Leasing company that leased it back to him. Then sold to me after 8 months at half the price that it originally cost. I think tax had something to do with it. Peter.
