  1. Hi Ant, Trevor is not too enamoured of main dealers, but I do think that when it does to selling cars they are the best people to deal with as a bad reputation does not help them. As for using them for servicing etc, both he and I are of the same opinion. Far too expensive! I did have a good relationship with Stratstone, but I do know what are the right questions to ask, and also the right answers to get. Knowing the answer before you ask the question is a good test on honesty. Regards, Peter.
  2. I am afraid I didn't see your subsequent posts being away from home at a sporting venue. Moderators try to be fair minded and when a member is upset by a post a moderator will have to take action. Trevor is a very fair and tolerant person and will always act to preserve the amity between a very friendly group of people.
  3. I found him very easy to read, and would respectfully suggest that if you found him difficult to read, just don't pass comment. Various people have various skills. I used to know a young man who could neither read nor write, but who was a millionaire before he was 30. Very good at what he did!
  4. This Forum prides itself on being a friendly forum, which tries to help and assist other Jaguar owners. You posts are not censored, but they will all be read my Moderators who duty [unpaid] is to ensure that it stays that way. As such, Trevor, who is a very reasonable person, as am I, did exactly the same as I would have done. As I have said, this board is here to assist and help other Jaguar owners, and it is certainly not a vehicle to teach other posters English Grammar to degree standard. I have indicated your comments to the Administrators of the Board.
  5. Hi Kevin, I was out all yesterday watching Rugby League up North. Your plug for your OBD reader should be on the driver's side about level with your knees. You will have to feel around or if you re small enough get down and have a look. Sorry that there was a bit of nastiness from a certain poster who has now gone and which Trevor dealt with. Regards. Peter.
  6. Hi Anthony, Prior to getting my S Type, I had an X Type 2.5AWD which I bought from Colliers in Tamworth which I had for 20 months and was stolen on the 7th June 2013. I need a car to get around and looked straightaway for another jaguar and I got my s type on the 24th of June 2013. I had a three month warranty, and I wrote down every small issue and took it back to Stratstone a few weeks before the warranty ran out and they gave it a thorough inspection. The car had 48k on the clock but had a new engine fitted by Jaguar at 21k. I have had one issue which was a sticky EGR valve, not uncommon on diesels --- my car is the 2.7 twin turbo diesel -- which was cured by giving it a good blast up the A38. Other than that, the car has been brilliant. Regards, Peter.
  7. I have not heard of common faults, Anthony. I got my S type from Stratstone in Solihull. I had emailed the Wolverhampton Showroom concerning a Black S Type but got a reply by telephone from the Solihull dealership. Regards, Peter.
  8. I bought an OBD diagnostic code reader, but after a bit of initial success it got temperamental and refused to talk to my s type.
  9. Hi Anthony, Will the dealer give a warranty is the first question. The other things you will need to know is the service history. Is the dealer a Jaguar main dealer, if so, they have a reputation to maintain? Regards, Peter.
  10. Now, now, Boys! Welcome to the Club, Kevin. What version of the x type have you got? Try plugging in the diagnostic meter, and if you have not got an handbook you can get one of the internet which will give you some help. Buying from auctions usually does not get you the service record, so you will have to start from scratch. However, you will find a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people here who will give you some assistance. Regards, Peter.
  11. Welcome to the club, Terence, I have emailed you with a suggestion. Regards, Peter.
  12. If I was playing I would be wearing the no 9 jersey.
  13. Rugby tomorrow, Trevor, but I think you have the right solution. The doors on the S type do lock automatically at about 4 mph. Look out for me tomorrow on the TV -- I will be wearing a Black and White jersey. Peter.
  14. No worries, Chris, It is a long way. Regards, Pter.
  15. Hi Steve, About the mpg. I have the 2.7 diesel engine in my s type and the best mpg I have got is 49.2 on a 90 mile journey with only 22 miles on the motorway, and am getting generally getting 46 mpg on longer runs with over 35 locally. I assume your XF has twin turbos, as my s type has, and what you need to do to get a better mpg is to keep the speed at a level before the second turbo comes in, which in my case a nudge below 2000rpm which gives me just under 70mph. Hope that helps. Peter.
  16. Hi Robin, First question:- Is you battery OK? If it is, the fault message could well be linked to sensors failing. The gearbox is supposedly sealed for life, but some members have changed the oil at circa 75,000 miles and have noticed a big difference. The oil is a bit expensive, but it is important to use the right stuff. Peter
  17. Hi Craig. I am not advertising, but I had my s type 2.7 diesel Terracleaned over a month ago and it has made the world of a difference, both in performance and economy. And my engine has only done 35,000 miles. Look it up on Google before making your mind up. Peter.
  18. H Craig, The club thrives on swopping experiences, and there are loads of members who will share them with you. There are quite a lot of very knowledgeable members too who will advise and assist. Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the Club, Bob. I have seen programmes about changing seats, and and getting similar electrics does seems to be the right way to go. I would try to find a good upholsterer in you area. Also there might well be a member who has done the job who will assist and advise. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  20. Nothing wrong with the North. I am heading up to Lancashire on Sunday to watch Widnes beat Castlefod in the semi finals of the RL Challenge cup. Peter.
  21. Trevor, If your SatNav is working, then the disc is in the player. That is a sine qua non of the workings of this sophisticated technology.
  22. Welcome to the Club, Craig. I think that the reason the parking sensors were not plugged in was simply that they were not working. They cost about £15/20 each, and if you can find which one is faulty it will save you a few shillings. The other scenario is that the sensor module is not working. There are two options. The first is to replace them. the second is to unplug them and reverse like you did before sensors were invented. A tow bar does take some of the impact! It would be worth trying to find out which sensor is not working properly --- try a good independent Jaguar specialist, or a good mechanic with the diagnostic equipment. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  23. The last king of Scotland was Field Marshall the Reverend Doctor Idi Amin, VC and two Bars, Dada, and the next will be King Alex Salmon. He thinks that the Scottish need to be governed by the Scottish. The corollary is that Nursery should be run by babies, prisons should be run by criminals, and lunatic asylums should be run by lunatics. That is purely an aside. I am very interested in the solution that hopefully Simon will find to sort out his CD player at the weekend. My weekend will feature driving my S type up North to Leigh [pronounced Leyth] when the Leythers are being hosts to Widnes playing Castleford in the Rugby League Challenge Cup semi final.
