  1. Hi Simon, and Welcome to the Club. A 1965 Mk2 Saloon will not be cheap as there is some demand, and as it has been laid up for some time I guess that the restoration would also be expensive. Wheeler Dealers restored a similar car a couple of years ago which you could get on You Tube. Watching that will give you some idea of what problems you might encounter. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the Club, Pete. I am very sorry to hear about your problems with your XK. I do tend not to believe what main dealers tell me. If you can find the part number it may well be a good idea to find out if you can source the part elsewhere and then tell the main dealer where he can get it from. Meanwhile you are not enjoying the Jaguar as you should be, and I would be inclined to pester the main dealer. I would also find out the name of the Chief Executive Officer of the main dealer/group, and pester him too. Good Luck. Peter.
  3. Good morning. I have seen some grills on E Bay which look OK. Some are from the USA and being on ebay, they will ship them. The demand in the UK seems to concentrate on mesh grills. Peter.
  4. Chucked the 8 track away, but I still have some cassette tapes and a player. I also have a great VCR collection. They will return!! Peter.
  5. Hi Robert, I think it is possible to fit an iPod, but I don't know how. I have only just got used to CDs. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Nige, and welcome to the club. It is a friendly club and members will share their experiences. I was 77 when I got my first Jaguar and throughly enjoy the Jaguar experience. Like you, I don't get oily hands anymore leaving that to those who can both get under the car and get back up! Regards, Peter.
  7. Becoming 65 you will sometimes be accused of being a grumpy old git. As from now you are entitled to be one. Becoming 65 you are entitled to park your car across two spaces so that it doesn't get a dent from some youngster who can open as door properly. Becoming 65 you are entitled to carry a walking stick and prod things with it. Becoming 65 you may get a pension from the Government. Becoming 80 you will get a 25p pay increase from the Government. Becoming 85 you are still pondering how to spend it. Best Wishes, and have a good day, Trevor, Peter. On my 80th!
  8. Welcome to the Club, Louise. Was your car behind mine in the car park this morning? {Sutton Coldfield] If it wasn't it was its twin. I hope you enjoy the club as much as you enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter,
  9. Welcome to the Forum, Duncan. I look forward to seeing some pics. The Jaguar experience is good, and I hope you enjoy this friendly forum. Regards Peter.
  10. I know it is not a warning light, even though my s type does not seem to have it. If you note my post I said that when I saw "Amber Light" I thought it might refer to a warning light. That is where I am coming from. I do not need to check with a Jaguar dealer, read other forums, or the handbook. Curiously, having been driving various vehicles for over 60 years, I am just a teeny weeny bit savvy about cars. Peter.
  11. I don't appear to have one on my 2007 s type -- but it doesn't have a sunroof either [for which I am glad]. But when I saw "Amber light" I thought it might be the "Engine malfunction" light, which cam on in my car yesterday. There are four solutions, after you have diagnosed the problem, which in my case was the EGR valves, as it has happened before. The Four possible solutions are:- 1. Follow the instruction in the manual and take the car immediately to a Jaguar Main Dealer, and they will charge you £69 for a diagnostic check and then recommend that the EGR Valves need replacing. Each Valve - two on the s type - costs about £185 and then there is the labour charge. 2. Take your car to an independent Jag Specialist and he will probably clean the valves with a significantly lower cost. 3. Remove the valves and clean them yourself - dirty job, and I don't get my hands dirty any more, but all you will pay for is probably new gaskets, about a fiver each. 4. Take the car out on the nearest bit of fast dual carriageway, press the S button and give a bit of a blast up to 70mph, come back home, have a cup of coffee, go out and start the car again, and the light will not show. If it does, go back to the beginning. But I would say that it has worked for me three times, and my mechanic has told me that a sticky EGR valve is usually cured by a good blast, Peter.
  12. Hi Simon, My condolences on the death of your Dad, whom I met at Alfreton. You can always stay in touch on this site, and hope that you will be back in a Juaguar soon Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club, Ben. You must have one of the first S Types off the production line! Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Nick. I hope you will find the club useful. We are a friendly club and enjoy the Jaguar experience as you do. Regards Peter.
  15. So did I, Trevor.
  16. Hi Chris, Just a month away and just enough for a game of poker! There were so many members wanting a meet, and I thought that The Heritage Motor Museum would be a good venue. I will give it another week or so and see how it goes. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Robert, I have just recalled an Independent Jaguar Specialist in Stoke on Trent --- XJK - Independent Jaguar Specialists. They have been recommended by several Club Members. And I have just checked their site and they have what I think you require, priced at £195. Worth looking at. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, James. This is a friendly club and there are lots of very knowledgeable members who do assist by sharing their experiences. And please share yours. Regards, Peter.
  19. Yes Martin, these little inexpensive things can work wonders.
  20. Welcome to the club, Robert. Try the David Manners group in Halesowen, also online, and Just Jags, Rimmer Bros for good genuine parts is also worthwhile. Regards, Peter
  21. Hi Leon, I think that it needs a new part. There does not seem to be a way to remove the filler from outside, but I think you have to take off the boot lining to do so. If you can locate the fixing screws, it could be a relatively easy job, providing you can source the part. Rimmer Bros is a good place to look and they are in Lincolnshire. Let us know how it goes. Peter.
  22. Leon, as promised.
  23. Hi Leon and welcome to the club. I'm guessing that the bit of plastic that connects to the flat metal springs has broken. I have just been out to my s type on the drive and had a good look, and see that it can wear. Mine does lock when the car is unlocked --- maybe I have not allowed for enough delay, or maybe the s type is not that sophisticated. I will take a photo of my filler cap and post it on the site. Peter.
  24. Hi Martin, Trevor gets up earlier than I do! The servicing done by some main dealers does stick to the book, but many have the job done by trainees. Some of the older and most experienced mechanics do tend to either start their own business or go to work for specialists where their skills are more appreciated. I used to have a Rover Sterling and the main dealer price for servicing in 2001 was £325 + VAT. I found a mobile mechanic who had been previously employed and trained by the same dealer who charged me £75. He has looked after my cars ever since. But being fair, the two different main dealers from whom I bought my last two Jaguars did a very good service prior to selling them ----- It was selling them that was important! Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the club, Martin. The S type is a really classy car and a head turner. Trevor does not like the main dealers --- I also find them a bit expensive. There is a topic on Independent Jaguar specialists recommended by Members who are much cheaper. Regards, Peter.
