Hi Steve,
There is a topic on which members can advertise, but no real classified ads -- I don't think the club needs one, personally.
But you will find a lot of people who know a lot about cars and who love the Jaguar experience.
Peter.
P.S. Look in Jaguar Market Place where you will see Jaguars for Sale -- but these are members' cars, rather tan classified Ads.

Welcome to the club, Ricki.
It is great to see a young man appreciating Jaguar Cars.
I think your friends could be a bit jealous!

Peter.

Hi again, Brian.
I have had a very quick look around and see quite a wide divergence on prices. The cars I have seen advertised are usually runners with MOTs with prices ranging from £5000 to £35,000, although there are several with lowish mileages advertised around £8000.
The lowest mileage I have seen was 3700.
I hope this helps.
Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Steve.
I don't know the value for such a rare car --- there cannot be many that old still around.
There are enthusiasts who will be interested, and there are some dealers who could well see your father's car as a money earner for them. I will have a look around and get back to you.
Regards,
Peter.

Hi Brian,
I had a 2005 X Type [2.5 AWD Petrol] with the same specification wheels.
The X Type came with two wheel options, 16" wheels and 17" wheels, and I have not come across an 18" wheel option, so I would not be inclined to go along that route, and remain with 17" wheels.
There is much opinion about the more comfortable ride, and some say the smaller wheels give a better ride.
You can get the wheels refurbished and thee is a company which gives a discount to JOC Premium members. There are also several mobile wheel refurbishers and a bit of googling will throw up one in your area.
The X type is a very nice looking car and personally I think, that as Jaguar has designed a car with 16" & 17" wheels, I would stick with what Jaguar thought was best.
Regards,
Peter.

Hi Dan,
I had a 2005 x type and my 'phone would not pair with they car either, although I din't have the touchscreen system..
Eventually I came to the conclusion that the phone was not compatible and gave up.
The is a topic on Jaguar Owners Lounge giving recommendations for independent Jaguar specialists which is worth looking at.

Peter.

Hi Amanda,
Good point! I went to an air show at RAF Waddington a few weeks ago and had to park in a muddy field. The next day I took a bucket full of mud from the mud flaps and wheel arches. That was bad enough. I don't envy the clearing out of cement.
Wy wife had a paint protection system applied to our S Type [indigo with Dove Interior] before we took delivery and it seems to work. It cost £300, but I believe you can do it yourself if you have a day or so to spare.

Peter.

I have driven automatics extensively in the USA and when I retired I bought a Rover Sterling -- all the bells and whistles and automatic as standard. I kept it for 11 years before I bought a Jaguar with a manual gearbox, which took some time to get used to.
My s type which I bought when my first jaguar was stolen is an automatic -- it was a bit like coming home.

You get many once a year caravanners in the West Country, Charlie. Good caravanners travel on midweek days, and don't hold anyone up.
Peter.

Absolutely fantastic, Roy.

Welcome to the Club, Jonathan.
There are a lot of friendly and helpful people who share their experiences --- which are very useful.
The S Type is a great car.

Peter.

Hi Leslie,
I have read quite a few Which Reports on various topics, and Which do cover a very wide range of things and run many surveys. However, when a survey is done there is always a percentage variant which some surveys discount as the lower the number surveyed the good surveys could well be written by an employee and the bad by a very articulate but nitpicky customer. If only 10 people are survey the figure could well come out at 50% satisfaction.
The What Car survey is taken from 150,000 people which is extremely high and is very reliable, and I would be inclined to go with that.
George has also given a recommendation which also tallies with the driving experience of other members who have bought the XF. I would also go with George on the choice of engine, as I feel that the two smaller engines slightly under power the expectation of a Jaguar Driver.
Regards,
Peter.

Well currently enroute to Silverstone and averaging 48.6 MPG that's the best I have seen since having the car previous best was 46.3
Hi Richard,
Is that the Terraclean working --- I am looking for the magic 50 mpg.

Peter.

Hi Steve,
The DPF will not bother you at all. It is us old fogies who only do 3k in 6 months that must take care.
Peter.
-
Thanks, Richard. I have heard of them.

Welcome to the Club, Wayne.
I think you will have to go to the main dealer with your car documents to get a new key fob, as it needs programming.
Regards,
Peter.

Hi Richard,
I think that you will need a longer run to notice the difference. My car had a 25 mile round trip with a bit of a bash during the journey. I did notice a difference when I put my foot down. A couple of weeks later I had a longer journey a I really notice the difference in mpg.
As a point of interest, where did you have the Terraclean done?
Regards,
Peter.

Steve,
Have a look at the DENSO site. There does appear to be XF updates available but the prices are in Euros.

Peter.

Hi Steve,
I used my satnav Updates, but as you say, they are down.
I have looked around and there seems to be nothing other than Jaguar at around £170 on the market.
You are only 3 years behind the most recent discs, so I would hang on another 6 months to see if Sat Nav updates come back.
I got an update 9 months ago for £30 which is the latest update for my S type, and possibly the last one.
Regards,
Peter

Welcome to the Club, Steve.
Enjoy the Jaguar experience -- I was told I would never buy another make of car.
Dead right.

You have had a good experience, Roy, with that dealer, who is doing what Main dealers should be doing.
I have been using a mobile mechanic for all work done on my cars ever since I retired 15 years ago, without complaints.
Having had company cars for 30 years, with a proviso that they must go for all servicing at Main Dealers I have come across a few very bad ones with who I have had to take drastic measures, one of which was block the entrance to his premises until he rectified the fault that was still there after the car had spent three full days with him on three occasions. By the same token, I have come across some very good ones.
I have used on particular main dealer to buy several cars from and would be inclined to go back there. When I bought my S Type I did go to that dealer but they could not get the one I wanted. Another very big main dealer was able to get one for me, and were very good.
You can only go on experiences you have had.
Regards,
Peter.
Replacement Wheel Implications
in Jaguar X-Type Club
Posted
Hi Brian and Wilber G,
I have never seen the x type with 18" wheels, I am afraid.
Bur bigger wheels do not always give the best ride.
Peter.
