The short answer, Mike, is "yes".
I don't know how or where to get the kit, but I understand that the MP3 is popular bit of electronic entertainment, so my son tells me, and he has it connected on his Mazda 3.
I am just a Luddite and am just getting the hang of CD players.
I am sure someone will have done it on the Forum, but failing that I think Maplins might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi Mike, and welcome to the Club.
Generally all the Jaguar models are well equipped so basically the choice is between either economy or performance, although all perform quite well.
The early models had a 2 litre diesel and the 2.7 litre diesel, with later models getting slighter larger engines, a 2.2 and a 3.0 litre engines, which are still quite economical. A mate of mine has a 3.0 Litre Portfolio and thinks it is one of the best cars he has ever driven --- and being a former CEO he has had Jaguar XJS models for years.
Whatever your choice you will enjoy it.
Regards,
Peter.

Hi Josh,
You are of the same mind as me in respect of a warranty. I have only bought one car without one from whom you described as a dodgy dealer. The exhaust fell off the first weekend I had it.
Peace of mind in respect of the costly items is all you need. I don't think you would find a car under £2000 from a Jaguar main dealer as they tell me that they put them through the auction system or sell them on to smaller dealers.
Let us know how you go on. 112k is not a huge mileage, and if all the bigger jobs have been done you will enjoy the S type.
Regards,
Peter.

I think your daughter is right about BMW's, especially convertibles.
The Jaguar is far more refined. It is also made in Brummagem.

I fear you spent a little more than my measly £1500 Peter. :-)
I did. £8k more!

Try the David Manners group in Oldbury, Ding.
They have a good site with a parts list, and specialise in older cars, but also do have a specific Jaguar Parts section.

Hi Paul,
It is not really off topic, as Warranties are important.
When I bought my Jaguar I did ask about exactly what the warranty covered, and they said full Jaguar warranty for three months. They even spelt out that is was parts and labour also.

Peter.

A chap who sits on the same committee as do I has a lightweight E-Type. [i need a photo off him next time I see him]
He restored it himself and now wants to sell it in order to buy an F type as he wants to own one while he is still young enough.
He would have bought an S type had there been an Estate version built!!

Hi Josh,
I have had a look around on sites such as Auto Trader and Piston Heads. Prices for 02 plates seems to vary between £1250 and £2200, and a lot will depend of mileage, service history, and condition.
It is usually better to buy from a reputable dealer rather eBay, as sometimes a dealer will give you a warranty, although probably a short one.
The price does not seem to be out of line, but remember that tyres can cost over £200 each, so I would check them. A tyre tread gauge does not cost very much and always worth having in the pocket when looking at used cars.
I would also suggest that you give it a good test drive to make sure that it handles OK and that all the electric bits work.
I would also check that it has had any recommended service replacements done at the correct mileages.
Regards,
Peter.

It has something in common with my S Type --- the colour!

Probably because it's a 4.2 litre supercharged V8 that produces 400BHP :) you have to burn a few hydrocarbons to get that kind of performance!
I guessed it might be something like that.

Welcome to the Club, James.
And let me say, what a good post.

Hi Simon,
The camber is adjustable, I believe. I think you might need some Jaguar expertise to adjust it.

Hi Josh,
Reports indicate that the 3 Litre engine is a good power plant, but I have heard that the R version -- the high performance car is expensive to run --- I don't know why.
Models 2004 and over are the face lifted ones with some higher spec options such as the touch screen/satnav.
Look out for one with a good service record.
A general issue with the s type is that water ingress into the boot should be checked. I had a little but a good examination of the seals found the fault, a twisted rubber, that was easily repaired.
Let me know how you get on.
Regards,
Peter.

P.S. Josh,
I have just had a look at Stratstone Jaguar who are the biggest main dealers and they have quite a few s type available which will also give you an idea of prices.

Hi Josh ---- Welcome.
I spent a long time researching and then looking for an S Type. The last models manufactured were the 2007/8 models and there are some about with relatively low mileages. For a car of that age with about 50k to 60k on the clock you can expect to pay about £8,500 for a 2.7 diesel SE from a main dealer -- probably with a warranty.
If you are looking for a car somewhat older with a petrol engine there are some quite inexpensive 3.0 litre petrol versions around and still around too are some of the 2.5 litre cars, which were discontinued when the diesel was introduced. The price varies dependent on how clean the car is.
The belts on the diesel need changing at 105,000 miles, so if you are looking for a diesel think about that.
I have been very happy with my 2.7 D SE.
Regards,
Peter.

HI Garry,
There was a topic a few days ago titled "Car Jolts" which might contain the answer.
But it looks like very something very simple. Or does it?

Hi Dave,
I have just coincidentally had a good look at my wheels, and to be quite honest it is not worth spending £300 on them as the scuffs are on the rim and those rim covers appear that they will disguise them adequately.
When my wife goes into Boots and M&S I always go into Halfords which is only 200 yards away and mooch around for 45 minutes and see what is going on in there.
I will have some fitted when I come to change the tyres, as these days I don't feel like changing tyres myself.
Regards,
Peter.

Hi David,
I am also interested in the answers to this question. I have 18" alloys and they are a bit scuffed by a previous owner. I have thought about a refurb and the cost for that is about £75 a wheel. And there are two bad scuffs.
I have had a look at Rimblades which could cover the damage which is all on the rims. There are mixed reviews, although to be fair some users have not followed the instructions.
I use Halfords for Tyre replacements and I might try them when I need to replace my current tyres, so it would be interesting to get some user reviews.
Regards,
Peter.

Hi David,
If you know someone with an x or s type with a touch screen system, borrowing his CD for a check might to be a bad idea.
When I put my satnav update disc in I put the other in the folder I keep for each car I have owned. If you want to borrow it just PM me with your address and I will post it to you. At least it will check if the system is working.
Regards,
Peter.

Hi Dave , thanks for that I will give them a look.
cheers Alan
Adamesh were one of the exhibitors at the Classic Car Show last November at the NEC< Birmingham. I had a chat with the guy on the stand, --- they refurbish original chrome parts to quite a high standard -- as well as manufacturing other chromed parts for modern cars.
They seemed very good to me.

Hi Keith,
If it fits on the hub it should be OK as a get you home. Those blow up kits do work on an ordinary or slow puncture, but on bad blow out are not to be rely used, so a spare, in my opinion, is essential.
It might be worth having a look on eBay or a a breakers site to see what is around. Having a proper spare is a good selling point.
Regards,
Peter.
-
Hi Keith,
The "get you home wheel" is a space or weight saver, I suppose. I had one on my x type, but have got a proper one on my s type with matching alloy rim.
While I have only had one puncture in the last 15 years, I do like the idea of a "proper" spare.
What have you got on your XF?
Regards,
Peter.
-
You did the right thing, Keith.
It all depends on the wheel sizes. There are three wheel sizes that will fit the S Type -- there was a recent discussion on their compatibility with each other.
Whether they would fit different cars I do not know as other issues do come into play. A proper spare wheel in the boot does give more comfortable feeling. Some member might have done it, though.
Regards,
Peter.

Thanks, Simon. It gives me some thoughts, as I have the 18" wheels on my S type.
