  1. Hi Ian,

My s type had the water problem over 6 year s ago when I first bought it. It had been sitting in a dry garage for a few months.  Cleaning the water seals resolved the problem.

My s type on an 2007 plate has a proper spare wheel in the boot which cost the first owner about £400 as an optional extra.  It came out of Castle Bromwich with it in the boot.

My wife has a Toyota Yaris which came with the tyre gunge and a tyre inflater.  A look around on eBay got a matching rim in good condition and  the appropriate tyre was fitted.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  2. Hi All,

This is a post I made on June 20th 2016.

I did say that I was writing/researching a short book, but time turned it into a longer book.

The information I obtained came in part  from the JOC members but much from newspapers of the time, personal knowledge and Wikipedia.  I also had talks with Mary Sayer, the daughter of the late Malcolm Sayer, a most prominent designer of several Jaguars, including the E type.  I also had a very useful discussion with Sir John Egan who was the Chief Executive Officer of Jaguar Cars and was the  man who saved Jaguar from disappearing from the Automotive Industry. Having a morning with Sir John in his house in Warwick was extremely enlightening.

The book is now finished, proof read, and now at the printers.  It also has a new title   "Jaguar  --  the Cars and the People."

If you want more information about the book it is to be found at   ---  Transporterama.co.uk  --  the online bookseller.

The book consists of the history of Jaguar Cars from Swallow Sidecars until 2007 when TATA took over Jaguar [That may be another book].

I think the book is a good read [I would say that, wouldn't I?]  It covers the cars that Jaguar build plus the people who made them.

    Regards,

    Peter.

    Hi to Everyone,

I am currently researching/writing a short book titled "THE CARS THAT SAVED A COMPANY"  --  "The story of Jaguar based on the story of its cars. "

This is a non commercial enterprise for International Strategic Management, and one of the things I would like to include is what      owners think about their cars  --  just a small review for each model with some photographs if possible.

There is no rush and if I get enough reviews in the next 3 or 4 months I will be very happy.

Reviews and queries should be sent to me by email and my address is  franandpeter1@gmail.com  or telephone me on 07737 969239 or landline  --  just ask me for my number.

All review will be proof read and any changes agreed with the writer, although I expect the latter will not be necessary.

I hope members can assist  --  I would really appreciate you help.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  4. Hi Peter, and Welcome to the club.

If you have a OBD2 scanner you could delete the warning message.  Sometimes the message stays on for some reason or other.

    The AA/RAC could do that.

There is no restricted performance so I am guessing that the red light won't be coming on.

I think that most garages would delete the message for about £40 or less.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  5. Hi Rory,

I am driving my second Jaguar, an s type [2007] with a diesel engine, just a simple SE which has now 84k on the clock. It replaced my X Type 2.5 Petrol SE [2005].

I was 77 when I bought my first one and 79 when I bought my present one which I have had for 6 years.  Neither car was/is that thirsty.  A lot depends how you drive.

Your XFS with the 4.2 engine will be somewhat thirsty, and you have got to live with it but also enjoy it.

My humble 12 year old S Type is a pleasure to drive  and is both quick, comfortable and classy.  You have a choice.

    Regards,

    Peter,

  6. Hi Andy,

Disconnect the battery for 10 seconds then reconnect.

You will have to keep your ignition key in your pocket, as the alarm will go off when you reconnect.

When you start the engine,  just follow the message instruction --  press both footbrake and hand brake. You will need to have your radio code to hand.

You will also have to reset all windows, volume, clock etc.

Also, to stop it happening too often keep you battery charged.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  7. Hi Peter,

I am not a mechanic,  and getting a bit too old to get underneath cars any more  --  I have a good mobile mechanic who has looked after my cars for the last 18 years.

If you are doing the wheel replacement yourself it is always wise to look at other parts as well.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  8. Hi Peter, and welcome to the club.

I have heard that smaller rims can give a better ride, such as 18" rims rather than 19" on an s type.  What you have said does seem to to fit in with what others have done.

Certainly I have a very smooth ride on my s type with 18" rims  --  the s type is a fairly big car!

    Regards.

    Peter.
