  1. I have used this fix about 5 times and it always works.  But when the car has just had a service I think that the system is getting things wrong.  I won't be driving much in the next few days due to a damaged left hand which is now in a splint, but my mechanic is fitting a new wing mirror on the 26th and he will use his scanner to rub it out.

    Peter.

  2. Hi Silviu,

My s type has the 2.7D engine which is the same as yours.

I did have the same issue  and after using an additive for a couple of years i had both egr valves replaced which solved the problem.

It might also be useful to replace the sensor.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  3. Hi Keith,

I knew Colliers in Tamworth quite well and had a 2005 X type from them some years ago [also a V6 AWD SE] which also had a protective coating, although I don't know if it was ceramic.  I have had coatings another cars too and have found that the system is quite good.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  4. Yes, this is the way to delete the service message.

The other way is to put up with it until the week after the car first went on the road,

My s type went of the production line on the 13th March 2007 and was sold on the 31st March 2007.

The message was coming a the beginning of March and goes on the second week in April.

    Peter.

  5. Welcome to the club, Colin.

Your car sound as if it well looked after,  and a pleasure to drive.

I am a long service retiree with just over 20 years experience, and love my s type, which was admired several times when we went on holiday last week to the beautiful county of Lancashire.

    Just enjoy.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  6. Hi Jon,

Even the Government seems to understand that an immediate move to electric cars means exactly what you have said.  Actually, "self" charging, as in a hybrid seems a better option.  My wife's car is a hybrid and return on a long run [over 100 miles] up to 60 mpg -- the petrol engine is a 1.5 litre.

I bought my 2.7 diesel  Jaguar when diesels were still a good option and it has never failed  the emission test.

When I was working I often had to drive over 300 miles in a day [I preferred to come home rather than stay in a hotel] and an wholly electric car would have been a no.  After I retired a Toyota Prius or an Avensis were a given option.

It will take 10 years before batteries can hold a 400 miles charge, if then,

My photo was a bit of a joke but did go right to the issue.

    Peter.

  7. Climate control is a big issue in the political field and manufacturer swill also move in that direction, and while the club does not want to talk about politics, what the manufacturers do is a topic.

A massive amount of work has been done on diesel engines and is still being done.  Joe, you are quite right about petrol engines  --  they can be made smaller and still more powerful.  Jaguar did that with the Ingenium engines -- and they will continue along that route.

The electric engine is a long way from perfection  and there is still the question about emissions from power stations need to charge batteries for motor vehicles,

There is probably more use of power from mobile 'phones and more battery charging from them than there is currently from cars,

    Peter.

  8. Welcome to the Club, Ricky.

You seem to be enjoying the s type since you have had it --  I have enjoyed mine for over 6 years and agree that it is a wonderful machine.

I have the humble 2.7 Diesel, but with a lot of jactory fitted  optional extras.  I was in the Trough of Bowland last week, and it was surprisingly easy to deal with the twists and bends on the country lanes.

    Carry on enjoying.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  9. Welcome to the Club, Patrick.

There have been a few good restorations of the Mk 2, and you should get some information from members who have done this labour off love.

Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts is definitely the supplier you could look at.  I have just looked at their site and they stock parts for the Mk 2.  They also do supply to Australia!

Look them up and let us know how you get on.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  10. Hi Steve, and welcome to the club.

Finding a parts supplier in the UK must be easier than in the USA, and finding one that would ship out parts could prove difficult.

There is one company that is worth looking at and one I have used before for small parts.

Have a look at the David Manners Group who have a very good supply of new genuine Jaguar parts and who do ship abroad.

Let us know how you get on.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  11. Hi Allan,

Your case is similar to mine.  I used Millers eco plus for abut three years and it did a great job.  Eventually my 12 year old engine went into limp mode and two new EGR valves had to be fitted.

I would have a diagnostic test, but I still think t is the EGR valves rather than the DPF.  As a member of the AA I had the AA mechanic come out to check what it was which save me paying a Jaguar man dealer £70 to do the test.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  12. I loved my car keys in the boot of my Rover about 25 years ago. My spare keys were in my jacket which I had neatly folded into the boot.  The car was also locked.

The AA man took about ten minutes to open the door, and then was able to drop down a rear seat and retrieve the keys.

I have never locked my keys in the boot since, and find the lock on the boot very useful.

But, as they say up North, "De gustibus nil disputandem" as the old woman said when she kissed the cow.

    Peter.
