  1. Hi Knut,

I cannot add anything to what Joe has said.

I have an S type Diesel SE which left the factory, just 6 miles from where I live, on the 13th March 2007, and I bought it on June 23rd 2013 with 48k miles on the clock and a new engines fitted my Jaguar at 28k miles.

I was looking for an S type with a lot of bells and whistles, and managed to find one that had been sitting in the garage of a main dealer quite locally for 3 months with about £12,000 of factory fitted optional extras.

I did all the checks, and was quite happy with the results. I also had it checked over by the mobile mechanic who has serviced my cars for 15 years, and no issues were found. I have now done 75k in the car with only 1 real issue  --  a leaking water pump --  easily replaced and not expensive.

The "Parkbrake Malfunction" message has come up a few times, especially when cold, and which was solved by a new battery.  They do start to fail when circa 5 years old.  I also had the sticky EGR valves issue - cured with an occasional additive and a bit of a blast now and then.

The s type is a great car to drive and fulfils the statement of Sir William Lyons, [who co- founded the company and whose early concepts marked down the design shape of the S Type], who said when the Mark 2 was introduced "Grace, Pace and Space".  It can be driven quickly and also sedately, and the car is still admired even though the latest models are now ten years old.

If you take care and are patient you will fin one on the European mainland -- quite a few were sold in the Netherlands and Germany!!!

Let us know how you get on,

    Regards,

    Peter.

  2. Hi Kevin, and welcome to the club.

Possibly a fuel  or fuel system problem. A blockage in the fuel system or the fuel pump is not working   It could be worth contacting the dealer from whom you bough the car  --  ask if the car has been standing idle for a longish period.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  3. Hi,

I must admit that I like the Burr Walnut trim, but I don't think it goes that well with a Black/grey interior, and can understand your dilemma.  The lighter Maple trim might have been OK.

I would not try removing the panels and wrapping would be a good option.

My S Type has the Dove  Grey leather seats which goes well with Maple.

    Regards,

    Peter.

    Hi

I'm not entirely sure which model I've got. It doesn't state anything on the logbook just says Xtype V6 petrol. It is 2.1 manual. Variant QAB1 version 5FFF D. If that means anything to anybody! Bought from a specialist garage and they said it was an S but looking at spec lists it doesn't match anything Parkers have listed. I think it's a classic with a few extras that Parkers say weren't available to that model

so it is a 2.1 petrol manual, with 17" sports alloys, full black leather but not heated and only electric up and down. Climate control, stereo cd as shown but no remote controls. Electric front windows but manual rear, split fold rear seats, power fold mirrors, remote locking single point entry.

If all that points someone in the right direction for some info then it would be interesting to hear thoughts.

    Hi Colin,

My son has a Jaguar 2.0 D and although his is a diesel it has not got the heated seats but has the split rear seats and the powerfold mirrors and similar electric windows. His model is a Sport and I think Parkers have mistaken the S for Sport.  I think the line up for the X Type early models is Classic, Sport and SE.  I had an SE on an 05 plate and asked the question when I was buying it and was told that they were the models but there were quite a few optional extras.

Interesting reading! I didn't get any of that from my dealing. I phoned left a message with a question, got called back within 20 minutes and couldn't have been more helpful on phone. Made an offer on item 2 days later and was accepted and sorted within 2 hours posted and delivered within 3 days. Very well packaged and perfect condition.

    Hi Colin,

I have used this dealer twice with a similar experience to yourse;f.

One bad experience from someone often gets a very bad report.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  6. Welcome to the Cub, Rod.

I went to Jaguars after Rover closed down after 16 years of very reliable Rovers.  I have had two Jaguars and they both have been great cars.

I think you will enjoy the Jaguar Experience --  We do make wonderful Cars in Brummagem [and Coventry].

    Regards,

    Peter.

  7. Hi Jolly,

I am afraid that as your S Type is a pre facelift model my experience is limited.

As you are going for an MOT tomorrow, I would just check with a friendly garage to see if they can assist.  My skills as someone trained as an accountant unfortunately never extended to mechanical issues.

If I was a bot nearer though I would come down and are a bit of guessing!

    Regards,

    Peter.

  8. Welcome to the Club, Richard.

I think you will find that former members of the Rover Owners Club might be around on this club site also.

I had a Rover 825 Sterling for 11 years before I moved to Jaguars.

There will certainly be members around to give any assistance you need.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  9. Welcome to the Club, Knut.

    It is still morning here!

We visited Norway last year  on a small cruise ship and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  While we were there we did see three Jaguars, so our big cats can take the weather when it is snowy.

One car [XE] in Bergen, and my S Type.

    Regards

    Peter.

  10. Trying to replicate the sound can be done by yourself at no cost other than fuel.  As Ron has said "non specific".

My S Type lost some power 100 yards from home but no warning light. When I got on the drive, I just raided the ticker rev to 2000 rpm - a dull bang and a puff of smoke and all has been well ever since..

If there is nothing apparent under the bonnet and the car drives well, and the garage cannot find anything, I would guess that there is nothing wrong.

    Peter.

  11. Hi Rob, and welcome to the club.

I have come across the "lurch" occasionally, but it has not been a serious issue.  Mike has made a good suggestion, and it might be worth taking that option a bit further by putting the gearbox manually into third gear and running it for a few miles, slowing down and accelertating occasionally, [traffic and safety permitting].

I do know that gearbox problems have been cured by a gearbox Oil change.

Let us know how you get on.

    Regards,

    Peter.
