Hi Gary-- she looks in great condition and I like the colour + low milage I would say that points to a
careful owner in the past so I wish you happy motoring I love my X Type and I'm sure you will your's.

Hi Bob I found this from another X Type owner so I'm thinking it may help you ????
He had a similar problem, where the microswitch in the rear door lock
was intermittantly failing. The interior lights would come on while
driving and you got a door open message in the dash. If the switch
failed while the car was locked, the alarm would go off. Ended up
replacing the whole lock assembly, because the switch is integral to the
lock assembly. Also found lock assembly on eBay £20or £30 if needed.???

Hi Martin
I found this perhaps it is of interest to you ===
The metal part of the windscreen trim is in two parts and simply clips into plastic trims which are spread around the windscreen. On mine the rubber was attached to the metal windscreen trim and came away with it.
I used special rust treatment to eat all the rust away and after priming and top coating it has not come back to date.
A couple of months after doing this a stone came up and cracked the
screen but fortunately my insurance covered the replacement.
The trim and rubber were replaced at the same time. They came separately
and the rubber just pushed onto either side of the metal part of the
trim.
A word of warning, when they took the screen out it was found that rust
had got underneath the edge of the screen itself and the fitter advised
that it would be best to ensure all the rust be removed otherwise the
new screen would not bond to the body. Apparently if there are any
points where the screen does not bond correctly it will cause a stress
point and the screen will crack.
I completely removed all the rust and re-painted the edge and they came
back and refitted the screen. I now have no rust, a new screen, new trim
and rubbers and no problems.
With hindsight I would definitely say it is best to have the screen
removed as it difficult to see how far the rust has penetrated. Though I
must say that in your case the rust doesn't look too bad.
Moral of the story is wait until a stone cracks your screen and make
sure you are insured. I wish the stone had cracked my screen first it
would have been a lot easier. Never mind at least I got a good job done
in the end.
I tried to upload some pics I took of the process but they were too
large. Let me know if they would be useful and I will attempt to
downsize them.
Good luck with your rust removal.

Hi Martin
I looked it up and this is what I came up with I hope it helps.???
You can remove the window molding and re-installed in less than 30 seconds. the window molding only goes under the mirror rubber by about 1/4" It fits the spot welded seam at the top of door.
Lift up on the molding on the back side of the door, and pull the molding from under the mirror seal.
To re-install lift the mirror seal and insert under, and press down on.
try the back window first and it'll give you an idea of how it attaches.Frank

Sounds like a fantastic project and very interesting as you go along it would be nice to see some

Hi John
I'm thinking this is a petrol engine ???
I said this to someone else but here goes I found this perhaps it will help you :-
One of the thing that will cause a cruise control fault is a loose vacuum hose ussually
on the breather hose coming from the valve cover in front to the throttle body.
I also found that if the engine light comes on the cruise control light comes on automaticly
So it could just be a engine problem .???

Hi Shaun
I keep thinking about your problem and I seem to remember years ago but on a different make of car
we had a noise simular to yours --after trying everything possible it was found to be the prop-shaft
U/J was seizing and making the centre bearing -[ a bit dodgy ] make the noise .???
I suppose its been checked but its just a thought .???

Hi David
I looks to me that the old castlated nut has been updated to the new type nut .???
Its late now but I will try and help more tomorow.

Hi David
I looked at a few new AWD rear wheel bearing assembly kits and most have a new nut supplyed ???
Frank
-
Hi David
I checked and cannot find the hub nut size I will try again "BUT" you do know that
after you have removed a hub nut you should always replace it with a new one
because it dosn't lock properly the 2nd time .?????
New bearing ---New lock nut .???
Good luck
