Isn't DVLA wonderful? I have been waiting for my replacement licence for over a year now and the Covid amnesty is due to run out soon so naturally I'm trying to make sense of the situation with DVLA. Who remembers a song called "There's a hole in my bucket"? I phoned DVLA, and got a recorded message stating that queries could not be handled over the phone owing to the present situation and please make use of the Web chat on the DVLA website... After typing in my details three times in total for different webchat bots I got a definitive reply. "Owing to the present situation, your enquiry cannot be dealt with via webchat. please use the email facility available at our website... So, I found the place and dutifully filled in all my details... again... and was given a reference number. You know where this is going, don't you? I just received an email from DVLA:- "Dear Mr Eckett, Thank you for your enquiry received on 3/8/2021. Your case reference number is 0471XXXX. I appreciate you contacting us to check the progress of your application. Unfortunately, for security reasons we are unable to confirm the information needed to respond to your enquiry via email. For further assistance you may contact the relevant department on: 0300 790 5555 Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm Saturday 8:00am to 2:00pm We look forward to your call. " Now, what was the phone number I called originally? Oh yes...0300 790 5555... There's a hole in my bucket dear Lisa, dead Lisa...

You say you are not keen on stop / start Julie. You can switch it off semi_permanently by disconnecting the negative terminal on the small battery. Re-connecting instantly restores the function. Tape the wire after disconnection of course, and fix it securely so it doesn't rattle. Personally, now I've taken the time to get used to it, I leave it connected, buy know what a pain it can be.

My present XF is on 78000 and is running like a dream (3.0 V6) My previous XF was on 158000 and was running perfectly when I sold it. (3.0 V6) These cars need care and attention and will repay you in reliability. Don't maintain them and you'll pay through the nose. 2016 @ 86K sounds like a motorway cruiser so all should be well if you get proof of regualr servicing in my view.

Well, thanks to the unstinting help and patience of Reg Graham, I now have heated steering wheel and voice on L10. Nice and toasty and now a bit of a learning curve to make best advantage of the improved voice control in the facelift

All set to code the Voice and heated steering wheel using SDD. However, my new chariot doesn't appear to have an as-built CCF at Topix. It doesn't recognise the VIN number. Same problem for VIN decoder sites etc. However, VIN is recognised by DVLA and by SDD as being correct. Any idea what's going on anybody? Luckily, Reg Graham is going to produce one from the specification of my car.

The "S" badge on my bootlid looks decidedly past its best. I've bought an OEM replacement so it's clear the badge is held on by adhesive and not bolted through. How can I remove the old badge without causing damage please. Being a black car it will show the slightest mark. Thanks.

Please be aware that modifying your CCF can render your car immobilized. Therefore the information provided is to be used at your own risk. All I am doing is telling you what I did to my car. Assuming yours is a facelift X250, search the CCF for "Voice Control" and open the parameters. Choose "Advanced Voice Control" and save the CCF then upload it to your car. Let us know how you get on 🙂

My practise is to replace the battery when I buy a car. My XF is stop / start and has a AGM battery fitted as the main battery. I've been offered a calcium replacement battery, being told they are "better" than AGM. Does anybody know the difference please?

Voice control of certain functions to do with phone, Nav, audio.

That was almost as much fun as actually buying one Dave 🙂 I got exactly the one I wanted and had a great time going through the likely candidates. The only thing it didn't have was Jaguar Voice but that is a matter of 10 minutes to sort out 😉

Just changed mine from a V 6 petrol to a V6 facelift diesel sport (275 BHP) and by god does she go 🙂 Lots of horror stories about DPF and EGR but I find with regular servicing and once a week foot down I never had any problems with my diesel S-Type which I had for several years. Portfolio spec is the one to go for if you like luxury and toys 😉

Reported this morning at 10:00 that I'd misplaced one of my keys. Not immobilised because I have the second key. Even so, a brand new one will be programmed for me tomorrow morning at my home. No excess, no charge. That's what I call service 🙂
