  1. Both of my dipped beam headlights have stopped working at the same time. I suspect that the odds of both bulbs popping at the same time are millions to one, but as Terry Pratchett suggests, "Millions to one chances crop up nine times out of ten." ;) Anyway, I'll have to buy a couple of bulbs just in case but looking at more likely scenarios, I guessed that there may be a common fuse for the dipped beam (standard, not HID) but, not only can I find no common fuse, I can't find ANY fuses for standard halogen dipped beam headlights in the fuse list in my handbook. Please, can anybody assist? Do the dipped beam lights have fuse(s)? or where would I find a common link between both lights, other than the lighting stalk switch? Thanks, as always :)
  2. PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy of JEPC via WeTransfer :) I'll also send you the Bluetooth installation instructions if you want.
  3. Barry, I've just checked the official installation instructions for Bluetooth telephone in an S Type and it appears that the loom is in place, no extra wiring required :)
  4. The Bluetooth telephone system on cars of our model year consists of a microphone, Bluetooth module under the centre console and the portable support electronic unit which is mounted on the rear of the Kaiser panel in the boot. You can see the layout quite clearly in the JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue) image. It also tells you the part numbers required based upon your VIN number as well. If you don't yet have a copy of the JEPC, let me know ;) Mine was already fitted so I don't know if the wiring loom is incorporated in the car. The D2B wiring would be easy as you would just need to incorporate the PSE unit and the CDC in the loop. If you are only going to fit the CDC for now, I'd say that the D2B loom that you found with the protective cover on it would be sufficient. I would have thought it should have a termination loop on it though, to maintain the integrity of the D2B network, which you would disconnect and replace with the CDC. The supporting bracket will also have to be on your shopping list Barry. I have seen some CDCs which also have the bracket included for less than £60 on fleabay. The CDC is common to S Type and X Type (and possibly others) but the brackets are specific to the car.
  5. If you're not wanting to make your own cable to suit, you'll require one with just sufficient connectors for your needs. This depends upon what modules you have fitted already. The lead you linked to, if it is a four way, would be required if, for example, you had CDC, Sat Nav and phone modules in the boot. The photo in that link, apparently a library picture, shows the simplest D2B lead. That would be ideal to build into your existing D2B network if you are happy pulling the connectors apart etc, which is what I did :) As for Bluetooth, do you mean telephone or audio? Can you say what kit you already have in your car please Barry? :)
  6. I went through this process a month ago :) It was simple, quick and painless. You will have the D2B fibre optic setup. You will need a suitable D2B cable to link in your CDC. These can either be bought from fleabay or, as in my case, constructed from the cables already available if you have, for example, Jaguar Voice, Sat Nav, CD etc. D2B is a loop setup and so the modules need to be connected in sequence, which is easy enough to follow once you know which D2B modules you have. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-S-TYPE-2-7-04-RADIO-CD-PLAYER-CD-CHANGER-1X43-18C830-AC-XJ-X350-XJ6-XJ8-/171749110659?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27fd0b7383 Above is an example of the CDC you need. Look for one from a later S Type or X Type, post 2004, which will have the D2B connector on the back. If you don't have the Sat Nav in the boot you will need to get the mounting bracket as well. There is a possibility that you might need a trip to a dealer to get the CDC enabled but I certainly didn't as it worked perfectly as soon as it was installed. Took me less than an hour start to finish. Hopefully that is enough info to get you started. Give me a shout if you need any more :)
  7. "I think that a covert action involving infiltrating a Jaguar main dealer and being armed with a spy camera might be the answer." Or, just pay the ransom... or just leave the fuse out.
  8. Hi Does anybody have a link / copy of the Jaguar technical bulletin which dealt with the auxilliary heater in the diesel S Type belching out white fumes please? Local stealership knows about it but won't give out any info for "elf and safe tea" reasons, although they will do the job for me for a mere £285" Thanks :)
  9. My servo needed replacing. With the diesel, it might be a servo or the vacuum pump causing problems. Presumably you're getting a hard brake pedal with no servo assistance? Servo / vacuum problems are common as far as I can tell, having Googled "S Type hard brake pedal", for example. If you look under the insulation flap by the bulkhead on the driver's side of the engine bay with a torch you can easily read the servo part number. It might be:- 6R83-2B195-BC, assuming that your VIN is very close to mine. There are several types and they are not, sadly, interchangeable, but if you check the part number you will find second hand replacements readily available from specialist breakers like Essex Jag. A new replacement from Jaguar costs £500 give or take a few pence. Hope this helps :)
  10. Thank you again Peter. Are there any good breaker's yards for Jaguar in our neck of the woods?
  11. Hi all, The spring loaded cover on my auxiliary 12v power socket in the centre console cubby is broken beyond repair. I've no problem finding a replacement socket but none of them seem to have the spring loaded cap. Please can anybody advise a source of a replacement socket with a spring loaded cap?
  12. OK, No chance of dismantling, but following varied suggestions I ended up using graphited penetrating oil which did the job. Mirrors now smooth and quiet again :)
  13. Your audio system needs to use the D2B fibre optic network.
  14. Following excellent advice, I was able to get my folding mirrors moving again by liberal dosage with WD40. However, one has now become noticeably juddery when extending and I'm thinking of stripping them both down to clean up the pivot bearings more thoroughly. Please can anybody tell me if they can be stripped down and if so how to do so. I don't want to go blindly into this project if I can get some advice first. The maintenance manual shows how to remove and replace them but goes no further. Thank you
  15. Does anybody find that their car horn on the S Type, in general, is a pretty feeble excuse for a warning instrument? Mine certainly seems to be somewhat reluctant to perform its function at an adequate volume.
  16. Thanks Peter. If I could find it on JEPC I'd be able to source one. Unfortunately, I can't find it :(
  17. Hi Peter, I think we are at cross purposes my friend :) When I say "Safety Camera", I'm using the politically correct euphemism for " fleece the cash-cow motorist, money-making, nothing to do with safety, can't be bothered with anything except ripping people off scameras" ie. speed cameras ;)
  18. On the top of the diesel engine, right back as far as you can see with the main engine cover off, there is a sort of plastic conduit running across the top of the engine and underneath it has some foam type material, presumably to stop vibration. Well, my foam stuff is falling to bits and I'd like to replace it but I can't find reference to it in JEPC. Please can anybody assist? Thank you
  19. After a couple of days in use, I have to reluctantly admit that the ACM is a must for me :) Terrific sound quality and no ugly audio gaps while CDs change over. The whole of the Ring cycle, to use the example quoted above, on one playlist :) ... and I tend to favour several different recordings of the Ring, Furtwangler and Solti being amongst them. Audiobooks which flow naturally - great, and I can swap between iPod and USB if I want to and no horrible buzzy RF links. Plus it all works seamlessly with the Navigation, Jaguar Voice, phone etc :) Maybe it should have been part of the standard audio fit by 2006 though.
  20. Well, the ACM arrived today and I just idly considered how I would approach the task of fitting it and, mirabile dictu, it was fitted and working, in less than 40 minutes. Such a simple and logical installation you can't go wrong :) Well worth the effort, and, dare I say it, the money. CDs just don't have enough playing time for things like Wagner operas or audiobooks :) Welcome back old iPod friend. Pleased to say that the kit was the latest version as well, containing the upgraded D2B cable, updated iPod cable and the module itself has the latest firmware meaning the whole system is more "iPod friendly"
