... the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor on the diesel engined car please?

It's not diesel as in exhaust fumes Jim. It's rather like burning paraffin, or AvTur, as I describe it :)

Much like the FBH on the Rover 75 then :) That also used to sound like a 747 taking off as well. Hmm... should be able to arrange the cabin heater to run for a period of time before the car is required so warm to get in to when the weather is cold ;) Does the heater sound somewhat like a turbo running, if, for example you switch the engine off only shortly after starting it?

"To assist the heating of the cabin there is an auxiliary heater on the S Type which lets the engine get on with the business of getting up to normal temperature." Ah. What indication is there of that heater functioning please? Presumably it is automatically switched on and off? I wonder whether that's why I occasionally get the faintest whiff of AvTur (ie burning kerosine) sometimes when I start the car if I don't move off immediately?

My S Type had an average fuel consumption of 38MPG recorded on the trip computer when I bought her but since I zeroed it, my best is 29MPG. Maybe it will increment slowly over time :) Mind you, I also note that the coolant temp doesn't get to optimal by the time I get to work, a journey of some 10 miles mostly at 60 to 70 mph, so, even allowing for the sheer size of the engine, I might have to consider looking at the operation of the thermostat. As an adjunct, I use bog standard Sainsburys diesel rather than the branded stuff. Some say that it makes a difference. Also, I used to use Millers Power Plus additive in my fuel when I had my Rover 75 diesel. Does anybody use that in their S Type and does it make a difference please?

Hi all, I've had one or two jobs to do the the boot and I'm a bit concerned about the fact that the battery terminals, especially the positive, are exposed. Possibility of inadvertent short circuit. I was wondering whether there is supposed to be a cap on the positive terminal as standard or, if not, has anybody made anything to suit?

...Somewhat smaller though When I bought it I thought it would be the size of a Corgi car but it isn't - it's a LOT bigger, and now sitting on the mantlepiece.

Just wondering, at the moment. Has anybody with a diesel S Type got a remap or a Bluespark (or equivalent) addon please? Is it worth the money? Reliable? Thanks

Apparently, all you need is the overhead console with the garage door opener buttons and then it's plug and play. Has anybody tried this retrofit please?

Thanks Andy :) They are not the original wheels according to the printout I got from Jaguar. I'm not that keen on 18" wheels, preferring 17" on a car like this. I reckon my car was owned, at one point, by a drug dealer

Do you have to scrub it into the stitching Ron? I'm always nervous of putting too much pressure on.

Hi all, I've read the posts, here and elsewhere, about the care of leather interiors but I have a specific question:- the outside bolster on the driver's seat is showing signs of grubby discolouration on the stitching. A common area for concern as it gets rubbed everytime the driver gets in and out of the car. I've tried Glyptone, Autoglym etc, and whilst they are good at general cleaning and care, they haven't been effective in this particular area. Any ideas please?
