  1. Hi Paul I have tried three different sat nav discs (copies) from different suppliers including the 2008 disc that I had when I bought my car (even that one will not load). The message is always the same "Not a map dvd/disc". The only method I have tried is eject and try again, eject and try again. I have just purchased a genuine disc albeit, second hand (waiting for it to arrive)
  2. Hi guys The sat navigation in my car (denso) will not accept update discs. ( tried 4x different discs). As far as I am aware, the system is working ok. Have any of you guys experienced this and does anyone know how to get around it. Martyn (actros)
  3. Thanks Joe Good advice - thanks Martyn (actros )
  4. Hi Paul Thanks for the pdf. Very useful info. Happy new year Martyn (actros)
  5. Hi Guys My issue relates to the electric handbrake fitted to the S type but I would assume, fitted to other jaguar models as well. Mine is a 2004 model but this issue is driving me "nuts". Start the car - fine. Go to pull away - handbrake will not release. Sometimes switching off and removing the key then re-starting solves the problem but most of the time its a case of disconnecting the battery losing all the pre-set settings in the process. I keep my battery topped up via trickle charge once a fortnight as I know these cars can have issues if the battery is slightly below par. My car is automatic so in theory, I don't need a handbrake. Has anyone disconnected or by-passed these electric handbrakes or have any knowledge how to do so? Thanks guys. May I wish everyone a Happy and motoring issues free year for 2017
  6. Hi stephenk My car is a facelift 2004 so should accept a DVD but even discs that have loaded before will not load
  7. Hi Joe At £25 on ebay they are obviously copies but saying that, they have loaded before. Even the one that came with the car and was working fine albeit well out of date, will not load. Martyn
  8. Hi Guys I know this subject has been covered before but I am having trouble with my S type (Denso) sat nav. I have several discs from two different sources but when inserted, I keep getting the message "This is not a map dvd" and will not load. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
  9. I fitted "Can-Bus" free led side light bulbs and whilst they did switch on / off as "normal" they did get extremely hot and one failed within a matter of hours. Currently trying a different make but those are also getting very hot and not what I would expect from LED's.
  10. Hi Phil Don't know if this may be of any help but I have split rims on my jag and they are made by BBS and supplied to jaguar. If yours are the same, it may worth contacting BBS to see if they supply you with chrome/brushed trims. The wheels themselves should be any easy re-ferb.
  11. Dattrike is absolutely correct. To use modern unleaded fuel in your car would require the fitting of hardened valve stem seals. Retarding the timing or re-jetting the carb: may in some circumstances, on some cars work to some extent but hardened stem seals is the proper way to go. P.S. Don't forget to have the head skimmed at the same time.
  12. Hi Alan White smoke when accelerating and using the turbo to boost your speed is almost certainly worn turbo seals. At higher cruising speeds when turbo is not generally being used to boost speed, the white smoke all but disappears from the driver's rear view mirror but is it would still be there albeit much less. Get someone to follow you at cruising speed to confirm. The turbo has a dedicated oil feed (straight off the pump) and with the speed the turbo rotates, any wear in the seals would be exaggerated. If the above is confirmed then a replacement turbo would be required. a company called Turbo Active can normally supply. Best of luck
  13. Hi Andy You were right, there is a simple solution. The LED's that i was using were incompatible with with my car. I need to obtain "Can bus Free" LED's as these have tiny resisters build in which, as I understand, is something to do with the bulb failure feature on my car. Anyway, these are now on order. (I spoke to a local car spark)
  14. Hi Everyone Recently I thought of upgrading my car's lights by fitting Osram Night-breakers and changing the side light bulbs to their LED equivalent. The Night-breakers are much more "whiter" than standard and look more in keeping with more modern cars but changing the side light bulbs was not as easy. Switch my lights on and the new LED much better than standard but turning them off well; they wouldn't turn off. They remained slightly illuminated which totally confused me. Only a slight glow say, around 5% of their normal output but clearly this is not acceptable. Can anyone throw some light on this (excuse the pun) ? My theory is that LED take much less power to switch them on and there is obviously some residual power still in the cables: not enough to light incandescent bulbs but just enough to light LED's so, some sort of resistor would be required; that's my thought anyway Any "sparks" out there? Thanks guys
  15. Hi Andy I personally have a "Hilta" 1800 and can recommend it. It has enough juice to turn over my V6 diesel with no problems. Mine is around 2 years old now and still well up to the job.
  16. Reluctor rings are available as stand alone items on fleabay
  17. Hi Andy You need to get one with at least 1500 amps . Anything smaller would be a waste of time. Around £100 on fleabay
  18. I would be more inclined to check the wiring between pilar and door encased in a rubber boot.
  19. Two choices as I see it. One, put in a pot of K-Seal by Kalamex local car accessories shop around £10 or Two, Don't replace but have your own re-cored for about half the cost. Search radiator repairs in your own town or nearby
  20. Hi Woodsy. Engine manufacturers automatically de-tune engines to better cater for the worldwide mass market. As they have to take into account such things as poor quality fuels, restricted access to quality oils and poor servicing (if any), a de-tuned engine can cope better in such circumstances however, your engine was specifically designed for 2.7 ltr plus a minimum of +10% And displacement requirements well in excess of the 204bhp. By re-mapping your engine, you will only be taking up somewhere near the levels it was designed for. My 2.7 is the forth car I have re-mapped including my wife's 1.8 Astra automatic. I can honestly say that I have never had any problems relating to re - mapping (re-chipping is very seldom done these days). My previous three re'maps were direct ECU re-maps but the re-map to my jaguar is a plug n play module. Slightly more expensive but I can fit to another car (after re-programming - £60) Would I recommend it ' absolutely and without hesitation.
  21. Hi Jeff Like you I run a 2.7 diesel but I have had mine chipped to 254 bhp. We'll worth the cost as mine is now a totally different car Martyn
  22. Going back many years I had a triumph stag v8 and it well documented that these cars couldn't disapate heat the engine produced and overheating was common on these engines. The main issue was the radiator was only just big enough and combined with a mineral build up from using regular tap water in the cooling system only made problem worse. The remedy was simple. Remove and thoroughly flush radiator with a recognised cleaning solution and flush the system through (I actually ran costic soda through mine before dismantling) A new high flow radiator was fitted and that was the end of the problem Best of luck
  23. That should be gorgeous looking of course
  24. What an absolutely gorgeous loozing S type
