2002 XKR with 25,000 miles. Car starts every time, but within 3 seconds the engine stops. Does not run rough. Just goes from smooth start to stop in 3 seconds. Will keep doing the same upon each start up.

Does anybopdy know of a reliable supplier of new or recon gearboxes for 2.5 S Types?

Hi Hugo, are you certain you have a "power lift" boot lid? Many jaguar's have a fob button to pop open the boot, but it is still a manual lift open and push closed. N6 JMX

Hi Terry, if you plan to have your wheels refurbished by a local wheel specialist, then you can have them match the original colour, or you can have them paint the wheels in a colour of your own choice. Silver always looks better in my opinion. N6 JMX

Hi Bobby, welcome to the Forum and the wonderful world of Modern XK motoring. The car looks nice but as you say, it might have a few niggles. Firstly the locking issue: How are you testing the fact that the car is not locking on the fob? In your description you provide information that all of the indications of a locked vehicle are in place, but not how you know that the car is unlocked. A couple of pointers: 1. If you press the fob button twice, then you should hear a definitive clunk as the deadlock goes home, plus the car should chirp at you and the indicators flash once to indicate the car is locked and alarmed. If you are pulling the handle to check whether the car is locked immediately afterwards, then because you have the key in proximity, the car will open and therefore give the appearance of being unlocked. I know it may sound a bit dumb, but I know more than one XK owner who fell foul of that party trick. Connector in the central cubby: in the 2008 MY, the central cubby USB installation was an option, whereas in the 2010 MY, there is a USB as well as an iPod slot in that central cubby. It sounds like a previous owner may have done some work to overcome those omissions as, if it is an iPod connector (albeit for an early generation of iPod), then that can be checked relatively easily by posting a picture here, or trying to connect a suitable generation of iPod. Similarly, there were no plugs in the glovebox on your MY car, so again I think these are likely to be aftermarket additions but would not know what for, unless to use an aftermarket Satnav as the original fit Satnav is well past its use date. The radio is another question mark, you should have an extending aerial on the driver's side rear haunch - goes up when the radio is turned on and down when the radio is turned off. First check should be to confirm that the antenna does in fact extend. In some cases, owners have pulled the fuse to prevent the antenna from operating and chosen to use another device to receive their travel music accompaniment. perhaps related to the connectors in the glovebox and central cubby. A last point before someone tells you a reversing light isn't working - the 2008 cars only have a single operating reversing light, despite it looking to the outside world that there should be 2! Check and come back and I am sure more experience will be along shortly to provide you with further insight. N6 JMX

Hi Robert, you should know that there is a "Marketplace" section of this Forum at the bottom of all the sections. Suggest that would be a more applicable place to post your spares availability. One more post here in the Classic Forum and your post goes off the front page and I doubt many will look here for parts availability. N6 JMX

Just telling you what I did, which I found online. Not suggesting it will work for anyone else but what I did was press 3 BUTTONS TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME. Not only did I get access but the radio, which had previously stopped working, 'fired up' and the sound is as good as ever. The buttons I pressed: FF - A.MEM - PTY. I read that this might only work on models up to 2004/05 and mine is an 06. But decided to give it a try anyway and it worked like a dream. This saved all the hassle and expense of getting the touchscreen unit taken out to get the number of the unit and then paying someone online to send the code which is based on that unit number. Hope this is of help to someone with a similar problem.

The X260 XF diesel (2015 on) uses either the 2.0 ingenium engine or the 3.0 V6, whereas the earlier X250 model (up to 2015) uses either the 2.2 or 3.0 V6 diesel engine. The 2.0 ingenium engine doesn't have a brilliant reputation for reliability unfortunately. General opinion is that the X260 also had lower quality interior materials, until the final facelift in late 2019, when it got the interior upgrade that it deserved. Personally, I would look for one of the last X250 3.0 V6 S Portfolio models, very well specced and great interior quality.

My carpentry skills are non existent! (I mean, I could get a splinter! Or even worse, break a nail! 😱😂) I guess I’ll just have to see if I can find someone that would be willing to take on the challenge, but thank you for your reply ✌🏻🙂 -

Hello. Checking a warning light, I found the pressure sensor connector at the top front of the engine , just under the cover, was loose. I tried to clip it back on but the locking tab had snapped off. At the moment I'm using cable ties to hold it on. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? The places I've tried want me to buy a complete loom.

Have you tried lowering the door seal a little? Or used some rubber conditioner to help flex up the seal?

I saw it on that site but all the indicators suggest it could well be a scammers site. Thank you for looking 😊

After much ado I’ve finally got my phone reliably connected to my xk 4.2 2006 amplifier. Had a wired fm modulator( see photo) fitted by a professional for £50, it has an Independent power supply to it hard wired in. When it was done it had loads of interference, contacted the supplier and told to fit a ground loop noise isolator ?? Thought he was just fobbing me off but £4.00 later I bought and fitted one from eBay. All fitted and works perfectly. All now hidden behind the radio including another power supply run from an outlet in the glove box to an adaptor to allow phone charging at the same time. All I have is one lead coming out of the dash to my phone. This car is also fitted with an electric aerial so I’ve pulled the fuse to that and it stays down now All round a success story. A damned rare thing these days !

Thanks Jim, yes exactly the same fault for me, I will do a similar repair until I can find a replacement hose, I have had this hose off before and it appears fine, I wonder if the spout on the tank softens with the heat and time and is compressed by the clamp? allowing the connection to fail and leak? Such a small issue that would cause a major problem. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again for your help Regards Steve H

Thanks for the info. I am starting wonder if this is the case. Though by only pressing the fob once I do notice that the red led starts to flash, so some alarm is set. Is there way to find out what alarm system is on the car, as manual seems to suggest that the movement sensor may be" an option" I will buy jumps leads.........belt n braces

I made a tool by flattening the end of a welding rod and sharpening the flat to fit behind the bottom clip from the top to get the bottom of the strut off. The struts are after market and have a sticker with 4453 printed on it. They are 13 1/8 inches between the ball holes extended and 8 1/2 to 8 3/8 inches between them compressed. I find a number of 13 inch gas struts on Amazon rated from 20 pounds to 65 pounds, so the remaining question is what was the rating of the original struts or what pound rating should I order to make sure the bonnet will not come down in the wind at car shows. The bonnet weighs 23 pounds at the rear edge when closed to 10 inches on a scale without struts and that edge is 45 inches from the strut ball studs so the struts would have to be stronger to help lift the bonnet at the front.

Having switched my allegiance from SAAB to Jaguar in or around 2008, purchased my first XF (Diesel second hand ) in 2010. See below next to my last Saab which I also still have. Owned two further XFs before switching to my current 2017 XF-S supercharged petrol. Love this car and will probably hang on to it forever 😜 . No intention of switching to EV despite test driving a Tesla S in 2019 ( ludicrous mode is exactly what it is) .

Hi, new member here! I'm on my 5th Jag (XJS, XKR, XJ, XJR and currently driving about in a XJ 3.0i petrol Supersport with Blackpack murdered out spec). Invested in a SeaSucker the other week and just wondered if anyone else has tried them. Thanks Hugo

Not done it myself but you warm the badge up with a hair dryer and use fishing line to remove the badge. If you're not a fisherman, I believe that dental floss makes a good alternative! 😉
