Does anybopdy know of a reliable supplier of new or recon gearboxes for 2.5 S Types?

Hi Hugo, are you certain you have a "power lift" boot lid? Many jaguar's have a fob button to pop open the boot, but it is still a manual lift open and push closed. N6 JMX

Hi Terry, if you plan to have your wheels refurbished by a local wheel specialist, then you can have them match the original colour, or you can have them paint the wheels in a colour of your own choice. Silver always looks better in my opinion. N6 JMX

Hi Bobby, welcome to the Forum and the wonderful world of Modern XK motoring. The car looks nice but as you say, it might have a few niggles. Firstly the locking issue: How are you testing the fact that the car is not locking on the fob? In your description you provide information that all of the indications of a locked vehicle are in place, but not how you know that the car is unlocked. A couple of pointers: 1. If you press the fob button twice, then you should hear a definitive clunk as the deadlock goes home, plus the car should chirp at you and the indicators flash once to indicate the car is locked and alarmed. If you are pulling the handle to check whether the car is locked immediately afterwards, then because you have the key in proximity, the car will open and therefore give the appearance of being unlocked. I know it may sound a bit dumb, but I know more than one XK owner who fell foul of that party trick. Connector in the central cubby: in the 2008 MY, the central cubby USB installation was an option, whereas in the 2010 MY, there is a USB as well as an iPod slot in that central cubby. It sounds like a previous owner may have done some work to overcome those omissions as, if it is an iPod connector (albeit for an early generation of iPod), then that can be checked relatively easily by posting a picture here, or trying to connect a suitable generation of iPod. Similarly, there were no plugs in the glovebox on your MY car, so again I think these are likely to be aftermarket additions but would not know what for, unless to use an aftermarket Satnav as the original fit Satnav is well past its use date. The radio is another question mark, you should have an extending aerial on the driver's side rear haunch - goes up when the radio is turned on and down when the radio is turned off. First check should be to confirm that the antenna does in fact extend. In some cases, owners have pulled the fuse to prevent the antenna from operating and chosen to use another device to receive their travel music accompaniment. perhaps related to the connectors in the glovebox and central cubby. A last point before someone tells you a reversing light isn't working - the 2008 cars only have a single operating reversing light, despite it looking to the outside world that there should be 2! Check and come back and I am sure more experience will be along shortly to provide you with further insight. N6 JMX

Many independent motor factors will mix to a colour sample as will many automotive paint suppliers. Normally the gadget they have that analyses the colour is hand-held so you should be able to get a match just by driving your car there.

My boot pops, but doesn't fully open and I have to close is mannually. Should I replace the fuse or does the motor need replacing?

I have a F-Pace 300 and have collected a few scuffs on all 4 wheels! (got to love euro tunnel) I have asked my local Jaguar dealer for the wheel colour code but no luck. Hopefully someone on the forum has the same colour wheels and can advise the name/colour code for the Grey wheel colour, or any advise on how to match the colour for a touch paint. Thanks in advance. Hi All Picked up my 2008 xkr this weekend 230 mile drive home and it was brilliant. I have purchased it privately however it has a couple of niggles. The car is a 2008 08 4.2 xkr convertible with 86000 miles a full and comprehensive service history, it has great unblemished bodywork along with as new wheels and tyres however I will get ALL the cars fluids changed to give me a bench mark starting point and peace of mind. All the belts have been done recently. The niggles 1, Radio reception is very poor, where do I find all the antennas and any booster devices that pick up reception? 2, The doors won't lock on the fob, the mirrors fold in the lights flash and the alarm telltale flashes but the doors are not locked, if I press the rubber button on the door handle then it locks, opening is fine. Any thoughts please. These are not faults but in the centre arm rest is a loose lead with a wide flat connector, is this for an ipod? Also in the left side of the glove box there are 2 fitted RCA plugs red and white along with a fitted USB connector what is their function please. Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Robert, you should know that there is a "Marketplace" section of this Forum at the bottom of all the sections. Suggest that would be a more applicable place to post your spares availability. One more post here in the Classic Forum and your post goes off the front page and I doubt many will look here for parts availability. N6 JMX

Just telling you what I did, which I found online. Not suggesting it will work for anyone else but what I did was press 3 BUTTONS TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME. Not only did I get access but the radio, which had previously stopped working, 'fired up' and the sound is as good as ever. The buttons I pressed: FF - A.MEM - PTY. I read that this might only work on models up to 2004/05 and mine is an 06. But decided to give it a try anyway and it worked like a dream. This saved all the hassle and expense of getting the touchscreen unit taken out to get the number of the unit and then paying someone online to send the code which is based on that unit number. Hope this is of help to someone with a similar problem.

The X260 XF diesel (2015 on) uses either the 2.0 ingenium engine or the 3.0 V6, whereas the earlier X250 model (up to 2015) uses either the 2.2 or 3.0 V6 diesel engine. The 2.0 ingenium engine doesn't have a brilliant reputation for reliability unfortunately. General opinion is that the X260 also had lower quality interior materials, until the final facelift in late 2019, when it got the interior upgrade that it deserved. Personally, I would look for one of the last X250 3.0 V6 S Portfolio models, very well specced and great interior quality.

Hi Jon, Thank you for your prompt reply. I’ve always been a Jag lover but never been able to afford one. Back in the mid 70s I was offered a MkII 2.4. The engine had been completely overhauled, the interior leather had been repaired to a very high standard and my boss looked after it better than a mother and baby like when it rained he was out with a chamois leather and services never missed. When he was offered a new job and company car he offered me 1st refusal to buy as I looked after mine, being a spanner man, But alas I just didn’t have the money to buy. The biggest regret of my life and bought a load of trash a Cortina estate I spent a fortune on for a complete waste. Since it’s been my dream to own on. MK II out of my league 😢 hence XF came into view I know nothing about but trying to convince my wife it’ll be something we won’t regret hence I have to get this right. please understand my long text as I have to have all in front of me to convince her indoors she won’t regret. 😆👍🏽 My colour choice Red or Black. All whistle and bells. Easy for us to get in and out, again age thing. But provenance on the drive is a must, but for me it’s comfort, back and knee troubles and that’s for both of us. However owning a Jag is pride of place but making sure I don’t buy a pup and distance driving is cool. Again apologies for all who read.. 2.2 or 3.0L diesel. Tax, fuel, performance, comfort or/and problems, problems, problems. i know what many will think here…What a Whalley but I don’t care as long as I get the best Jag and only Jag that’s right. Nothing or no other manufacture will do as long as can convince. So definite Auto 2.2, 2.0 or 3.0L Diesel. 2015 - 2016. High mileage if service history to keep cost down? Does 2nd gen worth making that much difference for the price? Are you all still awake 💤 . Thank you, I don’t mind you all laughing. 👍🏽 Roy the Pest, Genuine!

My carpentry skills are non existent! (I mean, I could get a splinter! Or even worse, break a nail! 😱😂) I guess I’ll just have to see if I can find someone that would be willing to take on the challenge, but thank you for your reply ✌🏻🙂 -
Hi Roy, Well,I’m 69 and now on my second XF. First was an X250 3.0S portfolio (2011). Current one is an X260 3.0 S, loaded with options. To choose between the two is a bit like choosing between your children! First had a better, but dated interior compared to 5e current one. But the current one is loaded with toys and is much, much more fun to drive. Haven’t tried a non sport version of either, so sorry, can’t comment on whether they’re worth it, but if you want performance and handling but with a supple ride, neither will disappoint. so…. What colour are you going to choose??? Good hunting, and enjoy! cheers, Jon

As i'm no good at carpentry, i used a bit of 2x1" batten cut to length, drilled a couple of holes and called it good. However if you happen to know someone who is better at carpentry than me (that's almost anyone by the way!) you could maybe persuade them to get you a nice bit of mahogany or similar and chamfer the edges with a router (think that's the tool needed), drill and rebate the mounting holes, lacquer it and then mount the Leaper on it. If tht same person is good with plastic/perspex, they could make you a lid to keep the dust off as well.......... -

Hello. Checking a warning light, I found the pressure sensor connector at the top front of the engine , just under the cover, was loose. I tried to clip it back on but the locking tab had snapped off. At the moment I'm using cable ties to hold it on. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? The places I've tried want me to buy a complete loom.

Have you tried lowering the door seal a little? Or used some rubber conditioner to help flex up the seal?
