You’re very welcome Paul.👍

Hi Paul, welcome to the wonderful world of XKR motoring, I hope you have many happy, top down miles. The answers above are good, but my recommendation is to use the charger connected as follows: Lift the boot floor and you will see an earth connection - looks like a threaded screw coming up from the boot floor - down on the left hand side as you look forward. Ensure you remove the paint to get a proper connection to earth / ground, fit the black clip. Remove the vent louvre on the left hand side panel of the boot as you look forward and, with a torch, check inside and down for the battery remote positive cable, which should have its termination covered with a rubber boot. Slide the rubber boot forward, off the terminal and you will fit the red clip here. Ensure your charger / conditioner is on the 12V setting. and switch on. There is plenty enough "give" in the boot edge seal so that the charger itself remains outside the car, with the charging leads passing over the seal with the boot lid closed. As an aside, the usual 2 x battery conditioner's used by enthusiasts are: The CTEK MXS 5 or the Ring Automotive RA-RSC 612, both of which are suitable for 5.0 litre engines like yours. My preference is the Ring Automotive, because its LCD screen provides ongoing information on the state of your battery and it has more features. Plus the Ring Automotive unit can be switched to cater for AGM batteries - as used in Stop - Start engine systems. Please note, the battery in your car should be considered as a "Consumable" and you should be looking to change / replace when it gets to 5 years old. The car is extremely sensitive to battery condition, with a failing battery able to throw up numerous random / false dash light and messages. The battery's ability to start the car is no longer the best pointer to its condition. Enjoy. N6 JMX

LairdScooby started following S Type R Moonroof (sunroof) lining

Depending where exactly the material has come loose, you may be able to make an in-situ repair using adhesive carpet spray - hold the headlining away from the backing board (biscuit) and spray some glue onto the biscuit. Let the glue "flash off" then carefully and progressively fit the liner back onto it. I've used this trick on many cars over the years and it usually works well. However, if yours is truly horrible, you may have to bite the bullet and take the complete headlining down.

Does any know how to remove the sunroof liner, my lining is lose, and it would be great if I could take it out to repair, but it looks like I might have to tuck it or remove the whole headlining, not something I want to do. Help Gary

JOE-DOT-COM started following Battery Charging and Conditioning

HI Make sure you put a inline fuse on the positive lead, as close to the battery as possible if it get trapped for any reason, it will pop the fuse, otherwise it will catch fire these leads should be supplied with a inline fuse Ive used CTEK smart chargers for years and can be left on long term, anything above 3amp ideally, CTEK is what all the manuafacters use, Jaguar, Aston, BMW, Porsche, Rolls Royce. I use the Jaguar CTEK in mine, as it comes with a dedicated socket for the boot, so you just plug it in without the need to move anything. Also the Jaguar CTEK is fully automatic, just plug in and go, no buttons to press, if you get a power cut, it just starts again , no need to go back in and press any buttons. cheers Joe

Hi Paul I am told that there is an easier solution, I have just acquired a XKR 4.2 supercharged convertible and when I bought it, the seller explained to me how to do the charging/conditioning with connection in the louvre covered panel just behind the rear lights on the left hand side of the boot. If this comment works some clever feller will answer it and I won't have to ring my seller and say I can't remember how to do it. I will keep looking and if you don't get a reply, I will ring my man up and eat a bit of humble pie. I will then tell you how you can do it slightly easier than Jim has proposed. Jim seems to be on the ball, but I think the photos were of a coupe not a convertible. Jim but Spiderromeo also

Try this first, move the seat forward so that the seat has room to recline as far as possible and then recline the seat but hold the switch down for at least 5 seconds once it has reached its limit. Then try and recline forward to its limit and hold again for at least 5 seconds. If this does not work then you will be forced into a recalibration by a dealer or independent specialist.

greg1956 started following 2008 Jaguar XKR Seat problems

Hi, I have a 2008 jaguar XKR which I have had nearly 4 years and apart from regular services and normal replacement parts it has never given me any problems until today. Went out for a short trip and decided to recline my seat slightly but it went back a bit far so pushed the button to bring it upright but it would not move up, all other seat functions are OK apart from that the strange thing is the passenger seat has the same fault, I have checked the fuses F29 through F32 and all ok, tried the window reset still the same, also disconnected the battery for a couple of hours but no change, battery is new (Replaced 6 weeks ago) it was fine before we left as I did adjust it before we went out. any pointers or help would be great as I dread to think how much Jaguar will charge for diag. Thanks all.

back in the 70's neighbour had a dark red XJ that we used to stare at as kids. mesmerised that it had dual fuel tanks, which as a kid was very cool. Smell of the creaky leather.. nice.

Thanks Jim, that's the best advise and illustration I have had so far, much appreciated.

Hi Paul, Do not fit your charger direct to the battery as you will bypass the battery monitoring system (BMS). The negative of your charger should go to a suitable ground point. Here is my, Jaguar recommended installation; and what it looks like with the trim in place: The charger you have will be fine.👍

Hi, I have just become the proud owner of a 2010 XKR 5.0 Convertible and as winter is quickly approaching the car will have limited use. With this I need some advice on: 1. Where to connect the battery charger/conditioner - either hard wired directly onto the battery terminals with the cable protruding out the cover into the boot to plug in or onto the jump points behind the louver panel on the left hand side of the boot. 2. Is the attached equipment adequate to plug in as a battery charger/conditioner? Thanks

Hi Martin I am Jim or Spyderromeo I have owned both car and can comment on both the X308 was my chariot for 23 years I bought it new in 2000 for £54.000and sold it last year for £250 as a bag of rust, the outside looked the same as it came out of the factory, but the underside was like a piece of lace curtain. But it was the best car I ever owned ask me anything you want about ownership. I now own a XKR but I can only comment on a few very exciting weeks of ownership, The only negative I can say about owning one is the stupid and ridiculous price of road tax. but I could say the same about the X308. The XKR has all the signs of being the best car in the world for the price. if it carry's on like it has done I will be very happy. Spyderromeo

Jaguar is having a Cat Nap?
Jaguar Owners Club replied to Jaguar Owners Club's topic in Jaguar Owners Lounge
My very first love of cars was when i saw a bright red Mk2 with red interior. I was probably six years old and my grandfather told me to stand away from the car as the owner approached. No word of a lie, he was a proper spiv with pinstripe suit and he told my grandfather that it was okay for me to sit behind the wheel. First impressions were the smell of the leather and wood, and then complete awe from seeing all the gauges and switches on the dashboard. That was it, smitten at first sight, then promptly requested a model kit from my grandfather of a bright red Mk2 Jaguar. That's how memories are made! -
There is just a possibility that you have programmed the boot lid to not open properly/ fully: try opening the boot to its full height and pressing and holding for 10 seconds the boot close button: if it has been programmed to open to any other point on the cycle, this should reset it.
