XJ40 Sovereign from down under
LairdScooby replied to PetrolheadAU's topic in New Members Introductions
Welcome aboard and if you don't mind sacrificing a spanner to make it an "S" shape, it apparently makes changing the oil p sender much easier. Not done it myself but saw such a spanner ~25 years ago in my local Jag specialists when i was buying a car from them (XJ40 3.6 Sovereign) - luckily mine didn't fail during my ownership. -

Hi this is my first Jaguar, so it have been quite a learning curve. It is so much fun to drive. I found my XJ40 sitting in a luxury car dealership with no registration and a ABS problem. It was a real nice locking car and my wife loved it so I bought it site unseen and had it delivered. When checking the service book I found that it had only done 2000k in the last 10 years and it was running poorly, a couple of bottles of injector cleaner, full oil change and service saw it right. As ABS was not mandatory down here until 2003 and being a old circuit racer I had it removed, the car still stops on a dime. I registered the car on historic plates which where I am gives me 60 driving days a year . Since then I have replaced the rear suspension and sway bar bushes and 2 oil pressure senders in 14 months ( they are just so hard to get to). The 3rd one will be a after market universal one as the one we can get down here seem to be rubbish. I'm not completely sure if it will work but the other ones cost $100 au plus so I will give it a try.

That's very interesting, I bought one of these for the my old XJR but had to remove it. Unfortunately the wired FM adaptor only has two switchable frequencies that it outputs on, which are right on top of where BBC Radio 2 sits on the FM band, so all I ended up with was FM 'bleed through' (even when the aerial feed was bypassed) This is because the signal strength is so good where I live that I can get full stereo reception on all of the BBC stations without an aerial plugged into the head unit !

Hi Stuart, The Jaguar part number is AJ810959 however, the Ford part number for the same thing and much cheaper is 6W83-6A642-AA. Hope this helps.

I have same problem with my X150 2006 XK 4.2 , I have been advised by the local Jag specialist that it is probably the oil cooler allowing the oil that is getting into the water through the cooler internally as the oil is at a much greater pressure than the water. There are no signs of water contamination on the dipstick and no overheating problems My problem is that it is no longer available and radiator repair specialists cannot repair this type of cooler ( type that fits between filter and housing), so I will have to search the breakers for a replacement. Anybody got any suggestions?

ah supercharged, my next one, when i found one i want 馃槈 in white, looks well specced?

i'll say x260, mainly due to x250 issues eliminated (i.e. cracked manifolds) as well as no rusty rear subframe (x260 is alu), when today, x250 is at very high risk of. go for xfs 3.0 v6 diesel (as you know already, 2.0d ingenium is very risky one to own), very reliable and great mpg for what it is. mapped mine to 350bhp/780nm's and i'm getting 50-53mpg on motorway cruise at motorwaty speeds. x260 xfs's are usualy very well specced as well, but need to watch out for thigs you want to have, as with x260 nearly everything came as option 馃え so don't think it wil definitely have it, same as x250, when nearly everything was as std. good luck and keep us posted.
