Amber warning light?

Hi

Believe it or not it is purely there for asthetic reasons. It is supposed to shine down on the console area and give it an executive "glow".

I only found out about myself from the sales broccure that I have for my 2006 year model so no nasty worries , just a nice little light. Cover it up at night and see, it actually does make a difference.

I don't appear to have one on my 2007 s type -- but it doesn't have a sunroof either [for which I am glad].

But when I saw "Amber light" I thought it might be the "Engine malfunction" light, which cam on in my car yesterday.  There are four solutions, after you have diagnosed the problem, which in my case was the EGR valves, as it has happened before.

The Four possible solutions are:-

1.  Follow the instruction in the manual and take the car immediately to a Jaguar Main Dealer, and they will charge you £69 for a diagnostic check and then recommend that the EGR Valves need replacing. Each Valve - two on the s type - costs about £185 and then there is the labour charge.

2.  Take your car to an independent Jag Specialist and he will probably clean the valves with a significantly lower cost.

3.  Remove the valves and clean them yourself - dirty job, and I don't get my hands dirty any more, but all you will pay for is probably new gaskets, about a fiver each.

4.  Take the car out on the nearest bit of fast dual carriageway, press the S button and give a bit of a blast up to 70mph,  come back home, have a cup of coffee, go out and start the car again, and the light will not show.  If it does, go back to the beginning.

But I would say that it has worked for me three times, and my mechanic has told me that a sticky EGR valve is usually cured by a good blast,

Peter.

I have noticed a small amber light has come on when the ignition is turned on. It is situated next to the button for the sunroof but I cannot see it mentioned in the manual.....anyone with any ideas?

I haven't got a sunroof but I noticed that little amber light in the overhead instrument cluster and wondered what on earth that was. I noticed it illuminated for the first time at the weekend.

IT IS NOT A WARNING LIGHT. It is called an ambiance light in the broccure. I havnt got a clue where old peters coming from. All warning lights are on your dashboard. Check with a Jaguar dealer and the jaguarforum.co.uk forum where this issue has been covered many times.

I know it is not a warning light, even though my s type does not seem to have it.

If you note my post I said that when I saw "Amber Light" I thought it might refer to a warning light.

That is where I am coming from.

I do not need to check with a Jaguar dealer, read other forums, or the handbook.  Curiously, having been driving various vehicles for over 60 years, I am just a teeny weeny bit savvy about cars.

Peter.
