Scraping noise

I have just brought a lovely S type Jag , 2002 in fantastic condition, but I have a scraping noise from the rear , it sound just like a worn out brake pad on the disc, but I have just put new pads and disc's on the rear, and new wheel bearings on the back wheels.

I had the noise before I changed the pads and disc's Trevor, but  as you say it might be the new pads and discs bedding in making the same noise, think, i think i will hang on a couple of hundred miles and see if the noise stops, you can only just hear it in the car but its annoying  i don't know what it is.

No there were no wear shims,  I had it up on the ramp again today and I am getting a rumble from the diff , so I think I will replace that, I got the car for a very good price so I don't mind spending a pound or two on it..

David, on giving the matter some consideration a scraping noise associated to the differential? Whining maybe! I don't know, doesn't help you but I would hate to see you go through all that hard work and expense for no result

There is a whine and a rumble coming from the diff Kenny so I will take a closer look at that, il'l give the scraping a miss until I get the diff sorted, we have a rebuilt diff in the workshop so its not going to cost me anything.

  • 1 month later...

Update on my scraping noise lads, it was the diff, so I have changed all 4 wheel bearing's ( no press, just hammer and brute force) and now changed the diff, and at 80mph the girl is silent, what a joy to dive, well worth the sweat and tears.

Charlie,

I make it a rule never to enter a shop with a woman, why have you got to go, and has she not heard of the internet ?

And what is all this " Sonic Monday " nonsense ? trust you Scots to fall for it.

Just googled it, it is another Americanism

ATB,

Trevor
