XF MY14 Dynamic Mode.

I have had my new XF for a few months now - it replaced my MY11 XF. There are one or two differences, obviously, and the two that are the most obvious are the upgrade to the screen and the eight speed box. The biggest difference I have found, and it came as a bit of a shock the first time I used it, is the difference in the response when using Dynamic Mode. I simply cannot remember the response on the first car, for want of a better word, being quite so vicious. After the first time I used it I mentioned it to the dealer in a conversation and he seemed to think it was acting correctly. Basically, a small movement of the throttle brings a down change of one and, often, two cogs, followed by an increase in revs to over 4000 (well over). This might be all well and good most of the time (and ensures the DPF stays clean) when on a dry road and travelling in a straight line. However, as the weather starts to turn with damp wet roads and falling leaves, I am getting concerned about this instant increase in power output particularly on exiting bends, or even in mid-bend. A slight "twitch" of the right foot prior to pointing in a straight line is giving far more power than I feel is requested or required. I do not recall having this uneasiness with the six speed car.

It has crossed my mind that the only way to mitigate this is to use the paddles when in Dynamic Mode.

I wonder in the first instance if this is normal, or have I got a programme problem, and if it is normal, what do others think of it?

Forgot to mention, this is a 3 litre car - I do not believe the 2.2's have Dynamic Mode.

Hi Tony, and welcome to the club.

I do not have dynamic mode on my S Type 2.7D, but just an "S" button which gives a lot of power, but is easily controllable.

I think that your car is acting quite properly but I would hesitate in using it too much during the winter.

Regards,

Peter.

I wouldn't worry Tony, sounds like too much fun to question it. Although my 2.2 doesn't have a dynamic mode I do have an 'S' mode on the gearbox which gives much the same effect as you describe although on a lesser engine and thus lesser power.

It's my first Jag so I don't know if your's is correct or not but I can say I love my car, it's the smoothest thing I've owned and has all the power I need when needed.

I've just had 4 Dunlop winter tyres fitted, I've also never tried winter rubber before but everyone I've spoken to who has used them think they are brilliant. I got them for £700 fitted at Kwik Fit buying them through their website. The local branch wanted upwards of a £1k.

Enjoy, but as Peter advises, not too much in the winter.

Phil
