Spare key

Featured Replies

I only have one key for my x- type and could really do with a spare . Does anyone know of the best place to get one and programmed apart from the main dealers ? Cheers .

A specialist near to me in Stowmarket (http://www.roachclassics.co.uk/) will do one for £310 - which is the same as a main dealer sadly.  Apparently the key blade has to be cut by Jaguar for, I think £110(?), then there is the fob and the programming.  Not cheap is it?

Wow no Gary , that is a fair whack for a replacement key . I knew it would be a fair bit but £300 + is a eye opener . I think i might just stick with the one key and be very careful with it . Thanks for the heads up .

hi andy, i hope to get a spare key myself !    i found a jaguar breakers up in derby (auto reserve) who if i drive up there will find the right key and will also place the key in my ignition, program it and make sure that everything works. £30       so search on the net for the same in your area to see if anyone can do the same?   good luck, dave

Hi

Try some local locksmiths near you

I have one near me, longton locks, they will cut the key and clone the transponder and program the remote

the keys have been out years standard ford ones

if you buy a second hand remote it works out even cheaper

cheers

Hi just read your problem.

I needed a spare key for my newly acquired X type.

I know you are a good distance away but BESTWICKS of Derby "see website" are ordering me a key. Jaguar is one of the only ones they don't stock.

They guarantee a new key, cut and coded for £75.00. Of course they need you. id. and the car to do the job.

Hope this might help other folk.

There is a Nottingham company, 3D Autokeys. who do the same but at your home for £130. they cover a 40 mile radius from Notts.

have you tried ebay I wanted a replacement remote and I got one on ebay with a blank key, the key part is th same blank as a Ford you may be able to get it cut at a ford dealership which is a lot cheaper than jaguar as for programing you can do that quite easily with your original key.
