Hi New To Jaguars not to forums

Hi all

i have today agreed purchase on, new to me, my first Jaguar. After over 10 years of Land Rover ownership, and forums, I've gone for a 2003 Xtype 2.1 manual in silver with just 37000 miles on the clock and fish. Went just to have a look at the model and maybe have a test drive to see what they all about. Looked at 4 or 5 different ones in the dealers and ended up falling in love and putting down deposit 2 hours later!!

Ive found the LR forums to be invaluable and entertaining and am hoping the same on here. I will be possibly asking many questions to start with but as time and knowledge of the marque increase will help out wherever I can.

Looking forward to collection later this week once they've done a couple of bits in readiness, new disks and pads all round and fitting detachable towbar for me.

 glad to read that you've placed a deposit on a 2003 x type, but with a mileage of 37000 ?  that don't seem right !   more like 137000 miles. make sure everything works as for its age things start to wear with age and need some TLC .... mine is a 2004 x type and I still do work on her to keep it in best condition as possible. good luck with your new purchase and enjoy .....dave.

Cheers Dave. I know it might seem to be a misprint! But genuinely it has only 37000 miles on it. Seen the paperwork and MOT history and is genuine. Have checked over and driven and all seems to work fine. Got a 3 month warranty with it. They have serviced it including new plugs, replacing all disks and pads as we speak. They are a Jaguar specialist all ex JLR staff, they've helped out in past with my LR. I do like to do work on my cars so will be fettling to keep in as good a condition as poss. All new to learn though, knew my Disco inside out almost.

Will post up some pics once I've got her at home

We know the feeling about the mileage, as indicated by David;   when we first saw our '07 XK advertised (in April 2016) at a Jaguar dealer in South Wales as "2007 and just 6664 miles covered" we thought (after much double-taking) that it HAD to be a misprint (now more commonly known as an input error!).   However, all correct and, needless to say, a hefty (returnable) deposit was placed whilst we readied ourselves to visit South Wales and inspect.    As with your X, Colin, all JSH and MOTs were present, some years showing little more than 100 miles between MOTs.

There's always a flipside, and in our case it was that the (original) tyres had flat spots through standing.  To be expected really so new shoes were the order of the day.  We've covered about 2000 miles in the past 15 months, so it is definitely high days and holidays!

Like the idea of the Jag Specialist......we have our own indie specialist to look after our XK and S and have great faith in them.

Have a great time with the X, and, as always, happy growling

Thanks very much Carole. I'm certainly looking forward to ownership. Mileage wil certainly be going up once I'm driving. Got the same on the MOT history some years done between 1 and 2K last year did 68 miles!! tyres will be getting another closer inspection but were looking fairly new. Will take that on board with flat spots from standing thanks.

First thing to check on the tyres would be the DOT code which tells you which month/year the tyres were made.     If, when driving, you feel a slight rumble or vibration, flat-spots it could be.  Depends on whether the car has been moved slightly or just been standing still.    Also check for any cracking in the tread pattern or between tread and sidewall.

We wouldn't stress over it, and X-type tyres are not desperately expensive.   Our XK rears come in at almost £200 a pop for the rears, £140 or so for the fronts, but hey-ho if you are going to enjoy a Jaguar, do it properly!

As always, happy growling

Hoorah car got delivered today. Looking through gallery pics on here I would say that my headlights need a bit of a refurb, slightly yellowed and cloudy, so having read on here somewhere, will be ordering some meguiars to give them a going over. Pics to follow when I get a chance to take some and it's not hoofing it down with rain!

And tyres are looking good thankfully. Now kitted out with detachable towbar, need to move my trailer around, and brand new disks and pads all round

Happy growling commences.   Good news abut the tyres.   With regard to the headlight lenses......Mequairs kit it is, we commented recently.      Results achievable are excellent, although it does take some time and the masking around the area is important, as you can get a bit of scatter from the buffer (attached to your electric drill).   Well worth the effort though.

As with others, you will now find, as my partner and I do, that the Jaguar facial grin is a fixture!!   As always, happy growling
