I just brought home my new 2016 Sf R-Sport and the battery warning is up on the display, as I drove out of the forecourt.
A quick search and it seems likely that it either has gone flat thanks to sitting on a variety of forecourts, or I need one or two new (not cheap) batteries.
So, can anyone advise me on the most likely culprit in this regard?
How long should running the car get rid of the low battery warning, after which it is one (hopefully only one) of the pesky piles?
Thanks

Hi Peter,

In my experience of an older (2011) XF-S...

1. It needs a good long drive every now & then, to top up the battery (in my case) or batteries. Many short runs are not good! (Not to mention DPFs!)

2. As I recently experienced, a duff alternator can cause total havoc (and a bill for £700), but resulted in a dead car when going shopping (can you imagine the reaction???).

My humble suggestion for a first approach would be to take it for a long-ish drive and see how that pans out. If it's been sitting, it needs to stretch it's legs a bit.

Hope you get it resolved. Need a pic of your car too!

Cheers,

Jon

They are battery hungry cars the XF. Need to either put a trickle charger, or go for a long drive. Kwik fit and others do free battery checks, doubt you would need both batteries changed.

First things first, fully charge the battery preferably overnight. When charged, check the voltage at the battery, it should be 12.8v.

Start the car and see if you still have the warning. If you do then check the voltage at the battery again with the engine running, should be in the region of 14.3v - 14.8v.

We need these basic checks in order to know which direction to go.

I've looked in the boot of my 2016 XF, and can only find one battery.

Where is the second?

Are you sure there is a second battery on a 2016MY?

There is only one.

If you had just drove off the forecourt, then you should have turned straight back around and spoke to the dealer that sold it to you.

That way, they cant really argue and will probably replace it for you. if you have driven for a while, that'll be a get out for the dealer.

But as they say, take for a long drive and see how it turns out.

They took care of it, free of charge.

Electricals all working as they should and Jo warning lights any more.

Thanks for the help.
