Help.

After replacement of the alternator, I started getting the dreaded Restricted Performance warning. No fault codes showing up on my cheap Bluetooth adapter.

At the time of replacement, mechanic suggested getting battery replaced.

Thinking that would be the sensible thing to do  on the basis that these cars are a bit suspectible to electronics, I replaced battery.

Still getting the dreaded RP though.

Would the battery monitoring system cause this?

2009 XF 3.0D

Any help appreciated.

Hi John,

Not sure this will help, but it might!

I recently had a complete shutdown in the road in front of my house. Called the AA (it was blocking neighbours' access). AA man said the battery needed replacement, but as he didn't have one with him, my car would have to stay where it was. Unlocked, unmovable! Battery removed as it was very very hot.

Second AA man next morning said the battery was fine and I needed a new alternator, arranged for the car to be trucked to a local independent dealer. Once the alternator was replaced (and original battery reinstalled) all was fine.

Are you sure it isn't just the normal "I need a blast up the motorway to clean my DPFs" bleat that we all get from time to time if doing short trips?

Hope you get it sorted, whatever the cause.

Cheers
Jon

RP can be caused by a partially blocked fuel filter.

These cars are too clever for there own good, should have built them to pop up a code to tell you what has triggered the RP, multitude of reasons which makes it so hard.

My s type had a "restricted performance" a few weeks ago.  After a few check ups and the fact that my electric key was not working at all I put the battery on my Ctek charger and left it overnight.

The next morning the"Restricted Performance" disappeared and my Key was working properly.

Batteries, even 3 years old ones, need a bit more attention

Peter.

I had a pulley and alternator belt replaced recently on my 2010 XF 2.0 V6. I was driving along the motorway at about 68 mph for nearly 80 miles, and suddenly the Restricted Performance kicked in.

If I switch off the engine and leave it overnight, RP does not show up again when I start the engine, but it does kick in when I am doing over 50 mph. Any Ideas?

I know the local garage had to strip a fair bit of the engine back, and I think maybe he hasn't put something back correctly?

Eventually convinced the garage to take look as they were adamant they did nothing wrong. As it transpires, they left a small pipe disconnected to the turbo. Problem solved.

They actually tried to charge me for it! I have so far refused as the problem must have been theirs doing.
