Turbo actuator

I have been to collect my car from the garage today and I have had to have the turbo actuator repaired and a bill for £700 for it on the a bank side of the engine which I believe is the one what usually goes, I have the 2.7 diesel motor twin turbo and the garage tells me that if one goes the other usually follows soon after. I'm really getting a bit cheesed of as I've not seen this car in the last 6 weeks as it's been one thing after another, I'm beginning to hate Diesel engines. Can any one help me out there, is it about to go.

                Not good news, but I hope you get it sorted shortly . I'm not a huge fan of diesel engines myself, cannot stand the smell of them.

 

Give me petrol engine any day of the week .

I will never buy another Diesel engine, if it was petrol I find that I can do most jobs myself, I had the x type 2.5 v6 sport, best car I ever had, serviced it myself and ran it for 3 years, this Jaguar S type has been in the garage more than on the road, bills off over a grand on the last couple of trips. I have parked it up and just don't know weather to drive it or just look at it.

                 Google " world health organisation and diesel fuel" .Another reason why i don's like diesels , and the fact they sound like a London routmaster .

 

If your last petrol jag was so good, what on earth made you buy a diesel ?

Love my diesel. It's smooth, quiet, refined, doesn't smell, doesn't puff an ounce of smoke, pulls like a train from barely over tickover and returns brilliant mpg. Granted, many are like old Massey Fergussons but the 2.2 isn't a bad motor, and the 3.0 in the XF is superb. I do love a big engined petrol but planning my routes around fuel stations isn't on my agenda anymore these days ;-)

Paul, I think you must have got an ill used engine in your car.  My preference for the diesel is the same as Mick's.  A 3.0 litre petrol would have used far more fuel and would have cost more in Road Tax.  I have had two diesel before this one, both Rover, one with a Peugeot engine and the other with a Rover engine.  Both were good engines.

 

Yesterday I went up to Irlam and back and got 42.7 mpg for the round trip.

 

And when the E10 petrol  comes in, fuel consumption will go up by approx 10%, which will cost at least another 10 p a litre.

I shall not have it hopefully, I'm going to get rid, I'm expecting another bill off around £1200 to £1300 for its last jaunt. The garage has even told me the turbo was full of black soot and had to be cleaned out with oven cleaner plus the actuator repaired but has a life time guarantee lol, the other side turbo would be best done and that would be yet another £600 - £700 bill. I just can not be doing with it, I just can't trust it.
