2005 XK8
Did it, I knocked on the door. The guy barely spoke English. After a bit of deliberating I managed to get the message across and offered him a grand. He though about it and said no. Its difficult to have a negotiable conversation with him unfortunately, but may go back in a few days and try a bit more.

dashboard glow plug light
Strange, I always thought that the light would come on when the glow plugs were warming up. If the car is not starting, then maybe the glow plugs are all out and not warming up, hence no light, however, this seems strange that all of them would go together. What mileage is on the car and is there any service history of glow plugs replacement?

DPF full
I have the pleasure of driving my XF along the M4 and M5 for approx 130 miles each way, regularly to collect my children and feel that this keeps my DPF in good order. However, I was always under the impression that a car should rev at around 2500 to give the exhaust and DPF system a good blow out, my XF will do 2000 at 90MPH and although I would love to go considerably faster, I cant get the car to sit steadily at 2500 rpm. If I do 70mph the car sits at approx 1800 RPM. I have tried using the paddles on the motorway, but after a few miles the car naturally reverts to automatic mode. Is there a way of turning this off?

Automatic vent opens but does not close
I had a similar issue. All I did was turn the automatic settings on and off a few times and it seemed to work. Not saying this will help, but worth a try?

Blue Smoke under the bonnet
Welcome to the group Brent. I was always of the understanding that: Black Smoke = Fuel Issues White smoke = water issues Blue smoke = oil issues. I guess the garage sorting out the loose collar may have helped the blue smoke, but still seems a very strange place to see blue smoke appear from. Blue smoke and a smell of diesel is quite concerning. Didi you take the car to a dealer or a local garage?
