  3. thanks trevor, the xj super sport is a cracker its got more room than the xk has and is more practical and just as fast or even faster. thats the only thing about the xk in a lot of ways i was being selfish. as we only have the one car now (wifes not well) she had a c180 and it was just sitting ther not getting used so i sold it wishing i haddnt now as the xk is not practical for taking dogs to vets ect but i love it. prob go for xf in a few years. charlie
  4. hi steve welcome to the club mate. my old business partner ran jags for many years mostly xj s . he loved them. he had been talking of trading in his curent one for another over a 20year period he must had 4-5 all xj some belters. out the blue he turns up on the site with a new xk8r coupe blue ivory int. a cracker and head turner was in it on coutless occasions put into sport you wer flung into the back of the seat this thing could shift wow. we wer doing good at that time and its nice to treat yourself to lifes little pleasures. he kept it for two years the traded it in for another xj. just before the new one came out. i at that time like the mercs and had a few . clk 200, e270, ml320, the last c-lass220 new shape. then new bm x5 nice car but the soft ware is not good in and out dealership all the time. sold the business was looking to buy sports car before get to old was going to buy 911. then happend to be passing the local jaguar dealers one weekend me and the wife wer out pulled in she said i know wer this is going haha it was ther an xk slate grey ivory leather black alloys that was it love. cheers charlie
  5. hi kevin welcome to the club. as peter says when buying a car your looking for old mots, and receipts of any work carried out buy previous owner or owners. if not the case. why not get the aa or rac to do an inspection!!!! cost about 200quid but worth it for peace of mind. my son got one done on a bm 325msport last year buy the aa and hes never had a bit of bother . i got my xk from dealer so got approved warranty . but if i was buying private i would do that the aa check everything. they could tell my son that the paint on the drivers door was thicker than the rest of the car. they scan the body work. turns out the drivers door was dinged and the guy had taken it to a garage to get it filled&sprayed. cheers charlie

  14. had a wonderfull day out yesterday at mackies transmissions factory in glasgow yesterday. organised by jimc from cumbernauld. met at mackies around ten am . about 36 cars turned up mostly jags some audi s. and a nice bm z3. mackies specialize in auto transmissions. john mackie his brother crawford and staff had came in and opened their factory for our visit as they are opend mon to friday. so it was great for them to come in on the saterday morning. tour lasted 2and a half hours with our hosts providing tea coffee and sandwichies ect . really nice gesture . the tour was great mackies staff showing how the gearboxes are transformed back to like new. and blowing out the water the claims made not just by jaguar but audi and many more. that the gear box oil & filter lasts the life time of the car. we then drove in convoy to strathclyde park and had lunch and had a good look at the other cars ther. x ,s, xj, xjs xjr-s, xk8s, xks all beautifull took pics im sure every one did. thanks jimc a great day out more please. carlie57
  15. hi david. i bought the trim4rims made by rimblades on ebay£20. weras rimblades wer £39.99 at halfords so half price same product. ie its a stickey tape you put on the rims. started it this affo. jacked up the car took the front wheel off got it done again same as you using extenttion and wifes hairdryer. going over it bit at time then aplling pressure to it took my time had to bring the last one into the kitchen table as it had started raining but got them all done and im knackerd. the last wheel was a bugger to get back on. it says on inst. avoid high speed for 72hrs so will see how they go . have you fitted your rimblades and are they still on.

  19. thanks peter. i know if its working then leave it alone. but in other cars it needs replacing every60,000mls so was just wondering wat to do
  20. Hi guys ive a question. i spoke to a mechanic at local dealers 2 weeks ago regarding a smell the some times comes from my xk when i floor it. the smell dose not happen all the time just now and then, anyway whent to local dealers and a mechanic came with me on a test drive. we couldnt get the chance to floor it moterway to busy. but he was a nice guy so i was asking him questions on what could cause it. could it be clutch, catalic, gearbox probs. he said on the gearbox that the xk has a sealed unit and that the oil filters ect last for the life time of the car. im going to book her the jag in for a health check before my warranty expires in 6weeks. but my question to the forum is it wise to have a gearbox oil and filter change done shes got nearly 50,000 on the clock welcome your views charlie

    re - xk

thanks for your replys guys. my sons last year booked me a nice present for my birthday not a stripper i must add, a day out with some super cars . 2 choicies. 1 lap of a track or a road run. took the road run. the eldest came to. nice senic route up by stirling called the green welie . cars wer . bmw m3. astin martin vanquish , ferrari 430, audi r8. thought the astin was really nice inside and wat a sound from it was brill but thats about it compared to the xk. the m3 again wasnt that mutch impressed. ferrari was like a go cart but was highly impressed . the r8 in my humble opinion was fantastic . looked great sounded great, and went like s###### . but im over the moon with my xk . wen the wifes not with me and i get the cance i open it up . shes mine hopefully for a long time yet. charlie
  22. sad by the news that the xk is to be axed. my father always wanted a jag. but being a normal working man it was out of the question, i worked hard all my life and built up a small bussnies. due to the wifes health problems sold it and retired to look after her having owned some nice cars in my time ie bmw mercs in my time i allways wanted a sports car. was going to buy a 911 but seen the jaguar xk and fell in love . nice retirement pressie the shape done it. slate grey ivory leather black alloys, it was a done deall. the f-type is nice . but not as nice as the xk. to short to mutch like the bmw z4. whom i suppose is ther main competitor . im keeping mine love it . call it magic. the rest wer called bettsie welcome your thoughts charlie
  23. hi david. its worth wile looking at this product called trims4rimes made by rimblades, same kind of product wich is basicly a spongie tape that you stick to the wheel rims. i got a set on ebay 20quid wer as rimblades are 30quid from hallfords. it says on the box to fit them on a nice day at 20deg celcius. as i live in south west scotland i will have to wait till june or july lol. so will try one dry day next week using the extention cable and the wifes hair dryer see if that works. cheers charlie
