I have a Jaguar XF R-Sport AWD 2016 with Meridian Surround Sound and once the huge chunk of polystyrene was removed, the space saver spare wheel went in fine, with the battery underneath the wheel. The jack, etc. is in a cheap canvas tool bag behind the wheel. Boot cover is then flat over the wheel and boot mat flat on top of that. I've relegated the can of gunk and pump to the under stairs cupboard. Just need the screw thing to hold the wheel in place but it's not going to move much anyway wedged in there.

    Welcome to the club, Chris.

That is quite a good idea.  My s type came with a spare wheel and full user bits.  It had been factory fitted as an extra..

Very useful even if you never have to use it!

    Regards,

    Peter.

I know this is an older topic, but I now seem to get the same P0404 with my Jaguar S-type 2.7 2008.
I want to try to spray the EGR Cleaner, but where exectly...?
Is it the square whole under the air filter? I'm still not sure...?

    Hi Bart,

Using Wynns spray you need to remove the filter and spray into the exhaust.  I gave up on that when I found Millers DIESEL POWER ECO PLUS and never a problem since that.  With Millers you put a  small amount into the fuel tank every time you fill up which is much easier. I also use premium fuel.

I have also never had a DPF problem even though I do have short journeys.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  3. Welcome to the Club, Roy.

My s type is exactly the same as yours but a 2007 plate and 86,000 miles.

You will enjoy the s type.  The  car has Grace, Space and Pace = I quote Sir William Lyons who founded Jaguar.

Any questions you have don't hesitate.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  4. Welcome to the club, Wayne.

I have had my s type for 8 years without anything major to worry about.

Just use Premium fuel, as Jaguar cars like it, drive it carefully and remember Grace, Pace and Space -  the words from Sir William Lyons.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  5. Hi Phil,

I don't think the negative should be 3'4inches away.  [I don't like foreign measures].

When you get a Ctek  --  I have a Ctek 5  Lead Acid charger -- you will find that you also get terminal connections and a battery reader which tells you the condition of your battery.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  6. Hi Paul,

I have never come across about connecting the negative lead to the metalwork, although in my wife's Toyota Yaris Hybrid you have to do that as the battery [not the big one] is under the rear seat with the big one.

    The S

type battery negative terminal is attached to the metalwork.

    Peter.

  7. Hi Phlllip,

I agree with John.  I have had a CTEK for 3 years which is permanently connected to the battery in the boot. I have an electric connection just outside the garage and charge my battery once a  week --  this lockdown is stopping me having a long drive every week.

The CTEK is not that expensive.

Us Lancastrians would rather be drowned than done!

    Peter.

  8. Hi Dave,

My s type is the SE, and the first owner must have had a reasonable good back pocket.  I checked all the factory fitted  extras and they added up tp £11,984.  Even a spare wheel, jack etc was fitted.

My employer used to deduct my mortgage from my salary and I forgot about it.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  9. Hi David,

I have used the same system for  few times.

Installing all the upgrades can be a real nuisance.  When I bought my s type almost 8 years ago, I was able to discuss with a main dealer the bells and whistles that I wanted, and the dealer was able to provide a 2007 model at a reasonable price.  I have not had any real problems.

The Government can assist sometimes!  I have had the pleasure of not having to pay a mortgage for the last 26 years, which does help an impecunious pensioner!

    Regards,

    Peter.

  10. Hi David, and welcome to the club.

I have a 2,7 D s type and sometimes, particularly in the winter when the heater is one you do get fumes coming into the cabin.  The reason is due to the s type diesel have a heater start up - assisting the heater to get going as the diesel takes a few miles to get the heat through otherwise.  The mechanic could be correct.  But if it stays longer than a couple of minutes they do check out why!

The exhaust on my s type is a stainless steel on which will last as long as the cr.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  11. Hi Wajid,

I also am no expert, but I did do a lot of research on Jaguar cars.  I found that the Jaguar xjs has increased in value by 50% over the last 10 years, and maybe the xjs Club could assist you in the value of your car.

On the starting  problem, I think a good mechanic can fit the spark plugs, the alternator and other similar electrical bits to get the car started.

About the Jaguar xjs the designs were found several years after Malcolm Sayer, the designer, had suddenly died at the age of 54.  Malcolm Sayer was the designer of the Jaguar D Type racing version which was extremely successful at Le Mans and the Monte Carlo Rally. Malcolm Sayer was also the designer of the E Type Jaguar, which was described by Enzo Ferrari as the most beautiful car ever.

So the xjs is a remarkable car  and is a classic.

My book is available from the online bookshop "Transporterama", and I think that Sir John Egan's book "Saving Jaguar" is also available on the open market.

Good luck, and please let me know how you get on.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  12. Hi Wajid snd welcome to the club.

This model was actually a standard model but, as you could guess, was also a car that used a lot of fuel.  At the time of its manufacture no-one realised that the Government were going to dramatically increase the price of petrol. When that happened Jaguar started to make a new cylinder head  --  the AJ6 -- engine improvement made the car more popular and the V12 engine was abandoned.

The time this happened was when Jaguar was part of the British Leyland Motor Company controlled by the then Government, and it is a lengthy piece of writing that covers the situation.  This would take me several hours to write.  There are two books which give the position in detail, and I would recommend that you read them.

There is "Saving Jaguar"  by Sir John Egan, and biased as I am, another book that is available if you look up "Transporterama " the online book shop.  This book is called  "Jaguar. The Cars and the People" and I spent two years writing it.

Your car is a classic and certainly one that is quite rare. It is certainly one of high value. I would definitely keep it.

There were not that many built and I could not find exactly how many, but it does seem to be exactly as the factory built it.

    Regards,

    Peter.

  13. Welcome to the Club, Lee.

.I have an s type with a slightly smaller 2.7 litre diesel from which the 3.0 litre diesel was developed.

I also do short runs and try to do a longer run - about 45 miles - once a month or so.  I have had my s type for just under 8 years and never had a problem with the DFF.  I use premium fuel and every fill up I put in a dose of  Miller's Diesel Power Eco Max which seems to do the job.

Get you XF, do like I suggest, and you will enjoy your car,

    Regards,

    Peter,

  14. Hi Tracey, and welcome to the club.

John has given you a good answer.  You can get the CR2016 from Boots and other similar companies.

I would also look at the car battery which normally lasts about 5 years, and it could be worth checking the age of you battery.

Let us know how you get on.

    Regards,

    Peter.
