Hi again Paul, I have just found that headlamp washers are an optional extra on the s type at a cost of £250. I also found that the total of optional extras can be very high, I am going to add mine up and see what the car cost in March 2007. Regards, Peter.

No Paul, My headlights appear to be standard, although front fog lights are not fitted on 2007 models. Peter.

Hi Paul, I thought headlamp wash is fitted as a standard item on all S Types. My S Type, an SE, has very good headlamp washers which operate when headlghts are on. Regards, Peter.

Hi Neil, I have heard of this quite a few years ago in an old car. I am not an engineer, but `I think the cure was a de-coke. I would try giving the car a terraclean service which will clean out the fuel system. Regards, Peter.

Hi Chris, It does sound fuel related in part -- as if the fuel is not getting through, which brings in the electrical element Go for the coil packs and the plugs. And a bit of a maybe -- possibly an additive that cleans the fuel system. Regards, Peter.

Hi Ron, We thought that about the old side valve engine! Much of the answer to emissions is better quality fuel. It was done with unleaded without a problem quite a few years ago. I have just filled up my car with Shell V power and I noticed while I was filling up that the price of standard unleaded was 116.9p a litre and standard diesel 117.9. Soon diesel will be cheaper that petrol. Regards, Peter.

There are supposed to be all round benefits that the EGR valves bring. There are two valves on the s type than cannot be fully blanked off, and the manufacturers are introducing or have introduced them on petrol engines. The same with the DPF --- one of my neighbours has had the DPF removed on his 2.0 litre Mazda 6 and the casing having been emptied, put back on, and it still passed the emissions test and the MOT even though removal is an MOT fail. While reducing emissions is important, there must become a point when it becomes impossible.

Hi Miles and welcome to the Club. My S type, which preceded the XK, and which has a lot of things underneath in common has "four jacking points on the floor of the car". Rather vague. My car came with a spare wheel as specified by the first owner. I take it that the XF might be similar. On my s type, there is a gap about a foot along the sill and at a quick feel it seems that there is some kind of support. Before trying to jack up the car I would be incline to get a suitable piece of wood at least an inch thick, 6" wide and about 18" long and if you can see if the jack will support the car. Hopefully an XF owner might be along to give you a little bit more certain advice. Regards, Peter.

Hi Ron, I think that the reason was that the emissions from the 2.0 litre D passed the euro 4 emissions standard. There is strong opinion that the scare about the DPF is equivalent to the scare about the catalytic converters. Peter.

If someone gets it wrong, I always point it out to them. I once got a packet of cream biscuits [3 biscuits] in which the cream had been omitted. I wrote to the company in Edinburg asking them to put the cream in, and got a large box of biscuits - about 3lbs in return. That was good but it didn't beat the 8 tins of sardines I got from Norway for complaining to the Company in Norway that the key to open the sardines, which I returned didn't have a slot in it. All I asked for was for them to put a slot in the key and return it! Peter.

Hi Phillip, I have had a look at the specification of the x type. It appears that DPFs were fitted to all Facelifted X Types in 2007 ---- according to one report. A check on that by looking for a DPF for a 2007 - 2009 X type 2.0 litre Diesel for sale throws up a complete blank. Hi Paul, I have a had a check of the main dealer price of a sensor and it is around £95. Bay offer them at around £45. If you had a local mechanic who would fit them eBay MIGHT be the best route. Regards, Peter.

Hi Paul, Did the garage give you the codes when they scanned your car? You can buy an OBD2 code scanner for around £25. I found that cheaper than asking a Jaguar main dealer to scan it as they charge £69 for half an hour. I will see if there is a better price for these sensors. Regards Peter.

Hi Hasu, and welcome to the club. Jaguar say that your AC should always be left on auto. I find that it takes a little time to get the operation to cold, but last Wednesday with the temperature around 28 celsius in London, I was down there and it kept me nice and cool all day. Does your car have the touchscreen, and is it a petrol or diesel, as that can make a difference? Also have you got the owner's Manual? If you haven't it is available to download just by googling S type Jaguar - Owner's Manual There is a Jaguar Owners Club meet at Gaydon on the 19th September and there will be quite a few s type owners there.
