  1. And to think before purchasing the XKR I was really looking for a second and DB7 like you I wanted my dream car. I did not realise AMG/Merc were to supply them with engines/electrics
  2. All part of getting to the root of the problem Frank, could be as simple as that
  3. What model did you have Trevor and what was the let down? I love the roar on the DB9
  4. I appreciate your frustration Clive however, they will look at the book price no matter what you have insured the sum at. I would suggest you take a look at the Parkers or similar guide for your vehicle and see what prices are floating the market. Another method without meaning to be disrespectful to you is take a look on the we buy any car website and see the pittance they will offer. Good luck Clive
  5. Market Value as your Policy Schedule will read unfortunately. I'm not saying this is right but this is how the law would look at it
  6. The obvious answer would be to get to the root of the problem, I personally would not purchase new switches unless I fully established than one or another was actually faulty. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution here, you would need to get at the individual switches and test them one by one by applying power to it.
  7. We all learn from experience Trevor or that is what they say. I have been very fortunate over the years buying on impulse especially with the AMG's
  8. "Talking to" Maybe we do things a little differently in Wales Peter

OK Tom, think I can assist you here; http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator If you enter your stock tyre size on the left hand side of the page and a variety of alternatives on the right hand side then press calculate it will give you the sums that would differ from the stock. You must remember that the sum should be kept to 3% of the stock tyre size. You will need to play with the entries until you find the correct alternative for your car. I found by changing my wheels from 20" to 18" I eventually found the correct value tyre size to keep it within 0.02% of original value however, it did take a lot of playing around,, good luck.
  10. Impulse? I actually bought my XKR taking hell of a risk unlike me when on holiday in Portugal making sneaky telephone calls and emails behind Lyn's back. If she had known there would not have ben an holiday so to speak. I believe I was lucky though everything when fine when I collected the car and drove it the 160 miles home from High Wycombe to Wales. Unfortunately, it was purchased at the latter end of September therefore, I have yet to see the summer fun from it. It will come took it out on a nice Sunny day Saturday but it was still a little icy and the rear end was not an happy chappy on slippery roads
  11. Trevor, I have just had a shifty in the XKR and there is no visible USB port on either the head unit or within the centre console. The centre console is taken up with a ridiculous brick sized phone which is to be removed, I have a Parrot system that I prefer and operates more than 1 mobile. The head unit looks like a standard fitment from the dark ages having a cassette player installed within with CD's being played from the stack module installed within the boot. I am more interested if anyone as pulled out these original Jaguar head units and replaced them with something more modern than that of my 2002 XKR and if doing so did they encounter any fitment problems i.e. was there a necessity to purchase fitment surrounds etc and where they were purchased from. I'm an Electrical Engineer hence have no problems with the actual wiring of a new head.
  12. Trevor with all due respect I am well or rather more than aware of a USB stick's capabilities. I would just wish to differ my music tastes by grouping various within different discs.
  13. Well said Geoff, its gone all out of proportion by one and all. And from Wales which would be exactly the same in Cornwall if you speak the language; Nadolig Llawen & Blaenydd Neuydd Da Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
  14. Trevor, if I am truly honest I've never looked for a USB connection in the central armrest. Like yourself I have preferred to use MP3, WAV files but in my BOSE unit you could load multiple albums on to a disc whist the head unit with held 6 discs which is the reasoning for mentioning it.
  15. My daughter also a Doctor drove down from Kent for the weekend in her Audi TT and unfortunately drove over some debris on the M4 enroute. It resulted on sticking it up on the ramps Saturday morning where we found the wishbone buckled leaving the car unfit to drive so it was the train home. Someone as been lumbered with getting it repaired
  16. Have anyone ever changed their standard head unit for a more updated version. I have been considering changing mine to another that plays MP3, WAV files and wondered if by doing so it would still link up to the current CD changer in order that I can still change discs containing numerous albums within each and every disc. I had a BOSE unit fitted within my AMG which was superb and held 6 discs within the head unit. Answers on a postcard please
  17. Find yourself a reasonably priced S class Mercedes if you want comfort, reliability and state of the art technology
  18. First thing that springs to mind considering NOTHING works, is the wiring loom connected? i.e. have someone had the steering wheel off at some point and not re-connected the wiring loom
  19. Disconnect the battery and leave disconnected overnight. If this fails then you will have no other choice but stealership undoubtedly it is the alarm/immobiliser playing funny games.
  20. Got the same issue on the XKR however I have not bothered to investigate it even though I am an electrical engineer. I preferred instead to wire in a Parrot system which I had taken out of my previous car. I find the parrot satisfactory and I can see exactly who is calling me etc from its screen and it works with bluetooth. It will also facilitate more than 1 phone so if you have a company and personal phone both will work sufficiently whilst you are in the vehicle.
  21. Hi

Hello Neil and welcome. Hope you enjoy all the club has to offer and if you have any questions then do not be afraid to ask however trivial
  22. I believe we all have our own individual thoughts in this matter. Obviously I have a petrol guzzling XKR and have had many AMG's equally which like the petrol although they are now rumoured that they are fetching out Diesel AMG's (how absurd) a sports car with a oil burning engine I do however have a CLK270 Cdi which I use for work and cannot fault in any way. The performance is superb with the turbo and equally it returns an excellent mpg rate. On a recent trip to Kent I averaged 51.8 mpg albeit mostly motorway driving but then that is good for a ten year old motor with just over 80,000 miles on the clock.
  23. Yes. looks like the one I had fitted to the Cooper S in the 70's wasn't as posh as you 1275 circuit racers :-)
  24. Looks like the old fashioned cut out switch we used to fit on the rally cars
