  1. The aluminium bonnet will fit on the earlier model of S-Type. The later bonnet is attached to the hinges with nuts and the earlier one with bolts so make sure you have the appropriate bits :)

Be aware that the studs in the later bonnet which attach to the hinges can sometimes break loose so care is needed when the bonnet is removed and when the nuts are tightened during the fitting process on your car.

In addition, you will need to replace the wipers with a pair which have the integral washer jets.

The front of the bonnet will align with the bumper as far as the curvature goes but, as Andy said, the grille is different so you'd need the grille from the donor car as well.

Also works on iPhone. Excellent little app, and free as well.

  3. My S-Type is a 2006 model and the sills were practically non existent. Ideally you would get the plastic covers off to make an accurate assessment of their condition Phil.

Even with the car on a ramp you won't be able to accurately assess them. Sometimes, if they are well gone, you can push the plastic cover in with your thumb and feel  / hear a sort of cracking noise as the rust underneath breaks up. If they are at that stage, walk away.

Other than that, the covers have to come off.

This is a very common problem with S-Type and X-Type.

I had no thought of getting rid of my car, even when the total cost of repairs became apparent. Depends how much you like S-Types I suppose ;)

  4. Not thick at all. Just shows a willingness to learn more :)

The Jaguar diagnostics software runs on a PC with a special adaptor Bernard. Several club members, including myself, have a setup, as do Jaguar dealerships and independents.

On a car of your model year it would use "Symptom Driven Diagnostics" often abbreviated to SDD. It can be used for programming, setting options, diagnosing and clearing faults etc.

  5. I am shortly to go for my Personal Independance Payment assessment, which, as some of you will know, indicates a moderate to severe disablement. The accompanying blurb said something to the effect:- "Don't worry, our agents make it easy for you to get to your appointment."

At the moment I am unable to walk more than 18 paces in one go and hold a "Blue Badge" so I was pleased to hear that it would be easy.

I received my appointment from Capita and did some research prior to the appointment.

The place I have to get to is on the outskirts of Birmingham so I phoned up to make sure they had disabled parking facilities, only to be told that they did not provide parking for visitors, however, if I had a Blue Badge I could park outside. Now the road concerned is the Hagley Road and those who know will realise that it is an extremely busy dual carriageway arterial route into and out of Birmingham. Further research lead me to discover that the road was, in fact, a "Red Route", meaning that I couldn't park there even with a Blue Badge.

Further enquiries confirmed that the nearest suitable car park was some 1.5 miles away and that if I parked there, I would require to get two busses to get back to the premises. Unfortunately, I can't get my leg up high enough to get onto a bus. Furthermore, the alighting bus stop was some 900 yards away from the premises and required a visitor to cross the extremely busy dual carriageway.

"You can always walk you know, we're not far from New Street Station" I was told. Not far from, in this case, equates to 2 miles and multiple road junctions.

I asked if I could use a taxi and the answer was in the affirmative... but I couldn't claim taxi fare back as there was "such a good public transport service".

How's that for taking care of clients.

BTW... I am required to be at the appointment by 07:30 in the morning, requiring me to be out of the house by shortly after 06:00.

Thank you for your care and understanding Capita.

  6. If both keys appear to have the same problem, I'd be thinking a fault in the door locking wiring Amardeep.

Do the doors lock from the centre console or by pressing the lock button on the driver's door?

Do the doors lock with the key in the driver's door lock?

As far as programming the keys. I've seen it done on an X-Type no problem but have never seen a successful attempt on an S-Type. I've tried all the combinations I have found without success. I won't say it can't be done but at the moment I personally don't believe it can be done ;)

Takes about 5 minutes with IDS / SDD diagnostics though.
