  1. Thanks Joe, I've found some 275/40 Winrun R330's at a stockist for £82 each, so they'll be the same manufacturer as my fronts and good tests and reviews. But the wall height will be 110mm as opposed to the 96.25 from the 275/35 and the 98mm from the 245/40's. I'm tempted by them as the 40 profile would give better kerbing protection, but I'm not sure on clearance and suitability, so may have to forgo having the same manufacturer all round. Does anyone know if a 275/40/18 has been used before and is a good choice?
  2. Hey Joe, The foam insert from my space saver seems to fit inside my now full size 18" Vulcan alloy, just my good luck I guess! Cheers, Russ
  3. Thanks guys. I actually found replacement leather gaiters shortly after posting, but only by contacting a seller who listed them for the X-Type. I'd love to find a new, original manual gear knob, but no luck so far. If anyone know of any new / old stock, it would be great! Got a puncture earlier, nearly new tyre too. Hopefully repairable...
  4. Interesting as you say! Not such an issue for me now I don't need to use the fob to get out. I opened mine on the key and drove her into the hangar, after which the fob worked again after being under cover a short while...
  5. My preferred stockist says he Winruns have been discontinued, trying to find some old stock for the rears or it's back to the drawing board! Interesting the 285's will fit and offer better kerbing protection, and there are no reported clearance issues Joe?
  6. Hi all, Normally I can track down most everything via eBay, web searches and local / online breakers, but I'm drawing a blank here. So hopefully someone can help! I have a pre facelift, manual handbrake and gearbox X200 and the hinge is broken on the ashtray cover, and I'd quite like to replace the black gear gaiter with it's surround, which has seen better days. Does anyone know if Jag or anyone else will do these as spares, inc the original gear knobs, or are these long discontinued / out of stock? Failing that is there a specialist breaker who may help? Not a great priority, but I see them every time I drive the car, and where she's starting to come together so well, these parts are letting her down Thanks in advance, Russ
  7. Just to wrap this up, I had the door panel off on Friday, lubed all the moving parts and electrics which seemed to be working fine. So after some preventive Waxoly in the cavity, reassembled and drove home. Unfortunately it didn't sort it, so took her into a local independent on Monday, who confirmed that she should unlock on the buttons or when the key is removed, which she didn't. After 10 mins on their diagnostics it was reprogrammed not to engage the speed lock automatically. This suits me perfectly, I can lock and unlock on the door button if required, I just don't get shut in against my will. The issue with fob has not returned, so just a temporary blip thankfully
  8. Sure was Jon, thanks for the heads up on those, I owe you one 😉
  9. Yup, thanks! It's been a good day, finally gave up on the speed locking and had it disabled. Fitted the new rear cans and just won a set of staggered STR alloys so I can get some bigger rubber on the back
  10. Hey Jon, I got those wheels at the starting bid, result! Thanks so much for pointing the out to me This may not suit you as you have an actual STR, but I'm going for 265/35/18 Winrun R330's on the back, to match the Winrun 185/40s I have on the front. I saw some on the back of a Porche Carrera today and they're huge and only 10mm off the 275s. Cheaper too 😉
  11. I just had to make this call on one of my Discoveries, various people plus the mechanic said ATF was fine in the manual gearbox, it's widely used in Land Rovers. But MTF94 is actually recommended. I went for that but did screw a good trade price from the auto factor to cover some of the difference 😉
  12. Just fitted my new rear silencers and they're amazing! A purposeful burble on idle, not too in your face on low revs, then an angry crescendo at revs! Once I work out the technology I'll do a separate post about them with pics and hopefully audio . You were a bit unlucky there Simon, as I think the standard Adamesh (or anything else for that matter), will fit everything except the R, which uses a c60mm diameter pipe, not the c50mm of everything else. I suspect they might fit by going inside the pipe instead of outside, I once fitted a Motobuild system to an MG that did this (but the other way around etc). But TBH you probably wouldn't want to risk restricting the R in any way. If the planets align and you get one, I suggest you sell your Adamesh, plenty will take them, and buy the correct size
  13. Sorry Steve, don't know for sure. They may be interchangeable across the range will all but the R if it does use the thicker tube. Joe may know or you could speak to Adamesh on Monday? Shouldn't be a problem to sell yours if they don't fit 😉
  14. No worries, glad you sorted it! Do those windscreen trims just pull off? The fabric is lifted on mine and I may be able to do a more effective repair if they're on the bench. I was thinking to use PVA to glue them back 🤔
  15. Well done Jon, I'm about to do gearbox oil, brake fluid and coolant as I can't be sure when it was last done, nominal cost and can't hurt. If I was you, I'd change the plugs, or at least examine a couple, they've done c40k over 3 years so it could be a quick win 😉
  16. Well done Jon, I did the same on mine using a 3M kit. You don't need much pressure on the drill Steve, but it takes awhile to go through all the stages. I fitted Osram Nightbreaker bulbs, but my X200 is pre Xenon and auto adjusters. I just have a big plastic Allen key adjuster which I had to crank up as she was pointing about 6' ahead of her when I got her. The lights are now pretty good, they were shocking!
  17. Exactly! This is why I asked about servicing, which would've included the air filter. I'd start from scratch on all service items and fluids. That is the worst I've ever seen, and I've seen neglect before! Glad you're on the track of bringing her back to full health 😉
  18. Thanks guys, super proud of her despite these niggles driving me nuts! She's a rolling restoration that will be largely finished by the end of the year. I'm just about to have the door panel off and see what can be done. Providing I can let myself out, I'll drive to pick up the spare key!
  19. Hey Paul, it's my profile picture, but I've attached a few more That link doesn't work Frank, not sure if my problem or yours, thanks anyway!
  20. BTW Paul, have you checked out my leaper? Finally got around to fitting it and it's brilliant, should've done it sooner . The X200 has the holes under the badge for it to fit to so quite a simple process, if a lengthy amount of polishing to get the badge glue off and as shiny as the rest of the bonnet!
  21. My 2001 doesn't have the centre console switch, just the ones on the doors. I'm going to have the door panel off and check that's all lubed and connected, then at least I can get out once in! If that doesn't sort the fob, I'll check it with the spare, which my father in law has to further isolate what exactly is the issue!
  22. My S-Type is parked in full sunlight at the moment since about 9am and the key fob has decided to stop working, not sure if these 2 facts are related? This is more of a problem than it should be as the central locking is playing up and when the speed locking activates, the door buttons don't deactivate the locks. So I've been having to release myself and any passengers, by removing the key from the ignition and unlocking with the fob. If the fob is now not working I could end up having to climb out of a window, which is not terribly dignified! I put a new battery in it recently, so it shouldn't be this, and I tried another CR2032 from another fob just in case, and it seems completely dead, any ideas?
  23. This is what I hope to do on my XKR when I get it, after I've sorted brakes, tyres and servicing, for a few £hundreds you can be looking at 500+ bhp! I'm also interested in the Racing Green Sequential Shifters, turning the auto into a sequential shifting semi auto etc. The Green Filter also uses oil apparently, is it an issue with them being over oiled and oil being pulled onto the MAF or similar. I think if properly used and set up, there is no reason oil should get to the MAF with either the Green or K&N, but I have no direct knowledge of these in a S-Type I spent ages looking for 2nd hand sports boxes for my S-Type and just bought a pair for £65 each from a breaker who I doubt knew what he had. They were so mucky it wasn't even clear they were stainless when I bought them but they've cleaned up well. I just need a couple of hours to fit them up properly, hopefully next week sometime
  24. I wonder if the Green Cotton Filter is a better bet then? I used K&N and Pipercross on various cars before, and the Vader Induction Kit on my MGF made a world of difference. But I understand the induction routing on the Jag is quite good and can hardly be improved upon? So it's only replacement panel filters that are worth considering? If this is not the case I'd be happy to hear of it. Similarly, while I understand that remapping the STR can release a lot more power, remapping a normally aspirated AJ6 or AJ8 doesn't make much difference and hence isn't worth doing?
  25. I have the STR Vulcan alloys on mine which were a standard fit in this size, so I can attest they work well on the car. Later STR's had staggered wheels with 275/35 on the back and 185/40 on the front. From memory the standard wheel is a 7" or 7.5" wide? The staggered rear is a 9". You'd obviously want the correct PCD and offset to standard, but I imagine if the one's you buy are recommended for your model, you'll be OK. I just did a quick eBay search and there are loads out there, new and salvage
