  1. hi Paul I have the genuine Jaguar charger, it came with the car, its mains 240v. and its really good, keeps the battery tip top, you can run the car also while its on charge and is a definate if your using sdd/ids software on your car, because you keep have to cycling the ignition to do various things, when reseting faults. I was thats impressed with the ctek charger i bought a second one for my mitsubishi off amazon there only £40 the model is CTEK XS3.3 its a smart 4 step charger, works really well Ive installed the plug, at the front, in the grill, just under the number plate, when i get home i put the car in the garage, i just plug it in. when i go out i just unplug it, or if i forget, as i usually do it just unplugs it self, just goes back to the fuse box and fuse protected. some pics 1st one the genuine charger these are over £150 from jaguar, the 2nd is the exact same charger, same model number but only £40 from amazon only difference is no jaguar logo and no fancy jaguar case Cheers joe
  2. hi you need the phone module, bluetooth module and fibre optic loop. phone module 2W93-19K350-AA , 2W93-19K350- AD , the last letter is software revision so higher letter the better bluetooth module 3W83-14B409-AD , the last letter D the higher the better as will be lastest software and supports more phone's and lastly you need a fibre optic cable I have 3W83-14B409-AD and it works with my new sony xperia z4 fine also you need check your plug have 8 wires in it, in the armrest for the bluetooth to work, my car had the 8 wires, its a 2004 STR, but did not work I had to swap some of the wires about to get the bluetooth to work, but this is quite easy and i can supply you with instructions if required if your car it 2005 plus then there just plug and play the phone and bluetooth are plug and play if wired correct, you just reconnect your battery and the car scans for them and they will work if it does not work, you will either have a problem with the fibre optic or bluetooth connection plug being incorrectly wired you can also fit a later phone/bluetooth module, that later cars had, which is a black plastic unit that is phone and bluetooth combined, these dont come up as often, and you need to make sure it comes with the little bluetooth aerial that attaches under the parcel shelf, not sure of part number cheers joe
  3. Hi Paul, Diesels do eat batteries my local battery supplier if you ask for a battery and you know the part number, he will ask what car its off, if you say a petrol you will get a 4 year guarantee but if you say diesel you only get 12 months, for the same battery and to top it off the jag has so many toys that also puts extra load on the battery Ive got a jaguar trickle charger on mine, which is just a rebadged CTEK charger and is well recommended, it keeps the battery tip top also on my car when i had it, if the car was left the battery went low enough after only 3 weeks not to start and when i looked into it, the battery was quite new but i found my car had a tracker fitted, which i assume was fitted from new, but there was no info in the service history about it the tracker had a battery backup on it, which was a battery like in your house alarm panels and been 10 years old, this dud battery was causing the main car battery to go flat a lot quicker than normal since removing the tracker the battery lasts much much longer also i have read on some sites thats these cars require a certain type of battery, dont know how true this is never looked into it its most probably just because you started it a few times in short duration and it just took too much out of the battery i bet a good run will sort it or a night on a trickle charger cheers joe
  4. HI its a diesel youll never get the same sound of the V8 petrol if you look on youtube there's a x-type diesel with a quicksilver sports exhausts it still sounds like a tractor, I think you wasting your money usually with diesels with sports exhaust you just get a louder gushing noise from the exhaust there no diesel v6 jags on you tube with adamesh systems so that should answer your question cheers joe
  5. Hi Yes its a bit of a fiddle was in my fuse box a couple of months ago when i fitted drl lights think i undid the big clips first as raised the fuse box out of it mounting bracket then i did each clip around the sides, but like you say if you slip it just clips back together if you have some tyraps try sliding them in the clip and leave one in each clip, might make it easier cheers
  6. Hi I'd come from the engine bay fuse box also there clips all round the fuse box, the larger ones release the fuse box off its bracket the smaller ones allow you take the top off the fuse box to expose all the wiring just slide a flat blade screwdriver in the clip while using pull tension on the fuse box and once there all unclipped the lid will come off there should be some spare permanent fused way in there for other options, just test them cheers joe
  7. HI you just need a voice module and fibre optic lead for it you all ready have a mic, it uses the same one as the phone cheers joe
  8. Hi Genuine are ideally the best but ive have had parts from " british parts online" who specialise in jaguar they do oe spec ones, which are good quality and ive never had any problems with them and there prices are really good here a link https://www.britishparts.co.uk/ cheers joe
  9. hi If you get a judder/shake through the brake pedal usually its the discs warped or have uneven wear some times you get softer parts on the disc that wear quicker than the rest of the disc cause uneven disc, causing the judder/shake are you sure they replaced them and not just had them skimmed, it a lot cheaper to have them skimmed and they usually only offer a short term fix check the discs if there new there centre's should look quite new and they should have no heavy rust other wise if you have access to a digital vernier you could measure the disc every couple of inches and it should be the same size, if the size alters even slightly then the discs are at fault some garages will have them skimmed for cost and ease, but they dont last the discs do take some abuse especially on auto cars, quite heavy cars and modern big brakes, discs can wear quick, but they usually wear even. cheers joe
  10. Hi Yes mines tucked away at the moment, Its seems such a shame to get it Dirty when the Jag is so clean at the moment All serviced and ready for those dry days cheers Joe
  11. Hi Alan If you PM me your vin number i can tell you if your car left the factory with it installed I can put your vin into sdd/ids and it will give me the spec of your car cheers joe
  12. HI like Gary says, if you press the Voice button on the steering, is should beep and say listening on the dash, if it says mute on the nav display, then it might not if you have Phone built in then you might all ready have a mic, if it not visible between your sun visor and interior light, then you will need a mic some had mic built into interior light, but these were not very good and a external one is fitted on the roof lining between your sun visor and interior light, which are a lot better phone module goes in the boot on the back of a metal panel behind the cd changer/nav unit in the boot you can get them on ebay and there plug and play, you will also need a fibre optic lead as well if you buying a module off ebay look at the numbers the last two letters refer to software version so the later letters are better so a BE is better than a BA, also check it says ENG on it foe english as there are loads of foreign one on ebay. cheers Joe
  13. Hi yes this will get it working again you can get the latest dvd sat nav discs off ebay, think latest one is 2012 version cheers joe
  14. No problem, It might get someone out of the Deep stuff cheers Joe
  15. HI I found it, its quite straight forward to do use this if you sat nav was working fine and you messed up a update, usually blank screen. IF YOUR SAT NAV IS WORKING LEAVE IT ALONE!!! INSTRUCTIONS https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/77859730/INSTRUCTIONS.doc FILE https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/77859730/LOADING.KWI Cheers Joe
  16. HI I would say its corrupted the software, boot software on your navigation the secret menu is ok, as long as you dont hit any of the update software buttons there is some information on other forums there is a file you can download and burn to a disc you put it in the NAV DISC, not cd player and it will update/restore your nav software if you get stuck let me know, i think i have the software cheers joe
  17. hi the phone and voice modules are behind the cd multichager if you remove the nav, cd changer and amp as a unit with the 4 bolts at the bottom, unplug it there fibre optic cables and there 2 plugs on the amp, 4 on the nav unit and one on the cd changer and the fibre optic loops to each one then once thats out of the way, theres another black metal panel, the voice and phone modules are bolted to the back of that. if your going to fit bluetooth at a later date you need phone module 2W93-19K350 Or newer early ones 1X43-10D893 wont work with bluetooth, handset only as for exhaust, I fitted a ADAMESH one's, just the back boxes, there £399, nice quality and they sound absolutly Purrrrrrrfect, not too loud, with a lovely burble, if you look on the adamesh site there a video with sound http://www.adamesh.co.uk/performance-parts-184-c.asp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_4UJU5qHXw and they fit straight on cheers joe
  18. hi this link shows how you do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PEjJTuqJfw if your brave enough cheers
  19. HI I'd be interested in this, depending on where the meet is of course I have a good mechanical and electrical knowledge and don't mind helping other cheers Joe
  20. Hi Chris, I Think the weakest place is the sills they start to rust first. I also found when i was looking for my STR that most s-types have some sort of damage where they have been lifted by a trolley jack under the sill I removed the sill covers and sprayed into the sills with a long extention tube, there slots and holes in the sides My sills were still perfect and hopefully they stay like that now there coated. I used wurth cavity wax, inside all the sills and box sections i could find, then did all the underside in waxoyl If you do remove the sills, some of my clips broke, but there very cheap on ebay, also I replaced all the pins and clips for stainless ones off ebay on the plastic underside covers you can get a set that does all the plastic covers underneath in stainless button head pins, off ebay cheers Joe
  21. Hi, If it were my car I'd fit the Hid's, but there are many on here who would say, not, they would say "they must be projector" must be " self leveling" and must have " lamp washers" I've fitted them to many cars and the beams have been perfect, ive never had any complaints off other people and they have allways past mot's I think there actually safer, once you fitted them there much brighter, anything with reflecting type material on it glows from really far away, like road signs and cyclists and your cars stands out and so your less likely to get pulled out on. but some might say "only a boy racer saxo driver would fit them" I'd make your own mind up as for your lenses, if you type it in on youtube, theres loads of clips on there how to do it, you can polish them up and bring them back, think there laquered as standard, as this fades with age cheers Joe
  22. Hi, I found it quite easy, allways done my own work, don't trust anybody else, the main problem is access, as long as you can get under your car safely, as you need the engine running to top the autobox up and it needs running for quite a while, till it gets to the right temp. If you have access to a car lift its really easy, but i would not like to tackle it off axle stands. I went for genuine zf oil lifeguard 6 and genuine zf filter off ebay, just for peace of mind. cheers
  23. hi have a look here http://www.coffeeshopmenus.org/Parts_X-Type-Parts_2000-2005.pdf is it on page 4 under section "front" item 5 "bar lower tie" hope this helps cheers
  24. Hi, cheers Peter for the welcome will look forward to meeting a few people and the next midlands meet thanks
  25. Hi All, New member on here and a newish Jaguar Owner, Bought a Jaguar S Type R, a few months ago and really pleased with it so far, been after one for ages, just like the look, Took me ages to find one I really was happy with, After looking at many STR's ended up with a 2004 STR+ in Zircon Blue, with ivory/black leather, its low millage, got good history and looks like its been well looked after, had no problems so far and every works as it should, just done a few jobs to for peace of mind really, changed the engine oil and filter, autobox oil and filter, aux belt and supercharger belt, diff oil its got full service history and its only done just over 30k, but it was a bit of piece of mind for me, The only job nagging me now the infamous Valley water coolant pipe, which I do in the new year when it warms up, will also swap to evans waterless coolant, well recomended, checked the sills, luckily both sides are absolutly excellent condition, waxoyled the underside and all inside the sills and box sections with a wurth waxoyl type product which seems to work really well, used it on many cars in the past, Just changed the rear silencers for some Adamesh ones, which really sound great, the really do the V8 justice, 10/10 for sound and swapped the plastic induction pipe for a stainless one. Also changed the front fogs for some led Drl/Fog which look a lot better and a lot brighter. Really happy with the car and it drives really great, so smooth and performs great, I bought a JLR lead for it as i thought it would come in use in the future, i plugged it in to see if there were any faults, but only found 1 which was on the headlight leveling, was only front level sensor, which i ordered a replacement, but ended up fixing the old one which was really easy to fix, so far I've found the STR quite easy to work on and the build quality seems quite good. I do all my own work on my cars, at least I know it been done, its knowing a decsent garage and trusting them to do the job right, just wondered if there were any local jaguar meets to the stoke on trent area thanks Joe
