Did try and tell you both!!!!!!  The Jaguar grin is not reversible so peeks out of the kitche window will continue; and why are there 45 pints of milk in the fridge?!

We are both the same; sometimes we are out in the S, sometimes the XK but, spoilt for choice, we are hoping to attend the September Jaguar Breakfast Meet at Gaydon in both; double grin.

Looks a cracker, Ron.........my partner and I shall crack open a pack of garlic bread to toast (?!) your new arrival.    Particularly like the ivory upholstery; neither my partner nor I are keen on dark upholstery, particularly black.    A friend has a black XF with a very dark headlining, and it's like riding in a coffin.   As we are both involved with the funeral business, not quite appropriate for our leisure time/high days and holidays!

Herman's Hermits (fronted by Peter Noone) sang "No milk today", so lateral thinking from "Hermits", we think that if we became hermits by being castaway on that well-known BBC island where discs seem to be the thing, we should say "stuff the discs" and we'll just take the S-type.

There is no doubt that the S is attracting a new legion of fans, and the motoring pundits who, in the earlier days, described the S as "disappointing" have, in many cases, been proven wrong.   Don't think it will be long before some of the specialists begin to produce repro parts, much as they do for the likes of XK, E-type, Mk2 etc.

I will take some  more pics tomorrow! She is in for an A/C Re-gas tomorrow at a garage recommended on here, then next week for a double din head unit...I am using any excuse to drive her, like R2e I now have more milk than Asda...Other than the stereo all is remaining standard, just as she left the factory.

Has anyone else named their Jaguar? Care to share? Mine is called Belinda May. Convoluted reason why but I christened my Fathers Ford Anglia "Belinda" in 1965 when he bought her from Raymond Way in Kilburn. A Midnight Blue 997cc Deluxe, reg FYL167C. As a child I loved that car and made up stories about her.

Calling a car "Belinda" became a mark of how much I liked a car, it has been the ultimate accolade that I could give. Here's where it gets complicated! I play in a band, we cover some T-Rex material, we do a version of "Jeepster", where Jaguar is mentioned (Just like a car/you're pleasing to behold/I'll call you Jaguar, if I may make so bold...) We then segue that into "I love to Boogie" which opens with "Belinda May's Fender has a Cadillac bone" So Belinda May she has become! (Although I play a Gibson and not a Fender...)

Blimey, both, particularly Ron, not only are you petrolheads (for the S), but also, if we may, stringheads (for the guitars).   That is some knowledge!      Neither my partner nor I can claim any ability with the stringed instruments (other than a following of Hank Marvin in the '60s and '70s, and some (to us) fancy guitar work by Runrig more recently); my partner does play piano,usually trying to emulate Stephanie Detre from the Andre Rieu Orchestra, although not quite to the same standard!

With regard to names, well, our XK X150 is named "Myfannwy" (famous Welsh name) on account of my partner is Welsh, we like to go for outings into the Welsh Marches and Mid-Wales where there are plenty of relatively empty A and B roads to enjoy the potential of the XK, and like most things Welsh (like rugby, pointed hats and sheep (leave it!)).      Our S is named "Daphne", or "Daffers" ....sort of very British, jam and Jerusalem WI, where such names as Daphne, Doris etc seem to fit.

At the time my partner owned a 1950 Wolseley 6/80 and a 3.9 V8 Range Rover, the pair were named Wallace and Gromitt, for no apparent reason although he was partial to a nice Wensleydale sandwich.

Perhaps it's time for a lie down and some tablets, so, as always, happy growling  :rockon: :afro:

My S type is named after the famous Welsh Witch, Morgana, and the Sat Nav Lady is named Doris --  a very polite way of speaking to us  --  "Turn Left  soon if it  is not too much trouble".

We generally name our cars and the new van has a name already, after only a couple of weeks; (Ludwig, as in Ludwig Van BeethoVan!). But for some reason we've not found a name for the S-Type yet that has stuck. I normally call her 'the Jag' which could get complicated if I buy another of the marque. And my mother in law has an X-Type named Charlotte, so we don't get them confused...

Aha Ron, we shall henceforth call you "The Man with no Name".  Apologies to Mr Eastwood.    Pass the cheroots.

The ORC on our XK hadn't escaped us, particularly as my partner went on an Orca research boat off the coast of Vancouver Island; originally, we were looking at a particular private plate when we bought the XK, but the ORC plus CA (Carole Ann) had to remain.       We hadn't noted the KLeptomaniAc element of the plate on our S.      Meanwhile, we'll just go back and have another look at that big pile of sparkly items which we seem to have amassed whilst out and about.   :pile:

  • Ahh Ron, I play a Custom Shop Flying V Custom, 1 piece mahogany body, 1 piece mahogany neck, Les Paul Ebony fingerboard, Les Paul Custom binding and finished in Jeff Becks Ox Blood making it unique. I have an Ibanez AS93 to which I fitted a Blues Engine and Dirty Torque pick up combination, my main acoustic is a 1983 Washburn Festival EA series a few serial numbers away from the one played by Nuno Bettencourt on "More than words" and JImmy Page also plays one.

I play through a Marshall JVM410H and 1960A Cab, very few pedals, just wah, Chorus, Phase and delay...WE'l have to organise a Jag/Jam! 70's is my favourite era.

Really interesting on the names...Love "Daffers"

First problem! Had the a/c re-gassed. There was no refrigerant in the system at all, refilled OK, no discernible leaks and icy cool air...Just one problem, no hot air. It is the same both sides. I am guessing the system might have been drained to prevent the cold air only problem. Would this be the infamous DCCV (?) heater valve? There is absolutely no difference in temperature regardless of settings, both sides are the same.

Hi, I did a quick check as advised and both pipes leading from the DCCV were hot with the temp setting to hi, I assume this means that the DCCV is working and that the issue I have is something else? Is there anything else that is easy to check?

Took her in to a Jaguar specialist recommended on here and the heater problem is a flap actuation motor, so nothing serious! The motor is being ordered and they will fit week after next. Going to London next week so can't wait to take her down either the M3 or A3 depending on the crossing we take. The A3 is nicer I think...

Next is the double din head unit....

Was that St Helen's that identified the heater flap?

I used to regularly take mine between the IW and London and definitely take the A3, much the better drive and a shorter ferry from Fishbourne. She'll eat the road, mine does at least :yes:

Look forward to seeing your efforts with the double din unit as I'm planning this as well :wink1:

Double DIN is being fitted on Wednesday, I have chosen the Kenwood DPX 7000. It is DAB, bluetooth, aux in and USB an smartphone compatible. The illumination is colour adjustable so I can get it to match the rest of the dashboard. I will post some pics. Yes, it is St Helen's, they seem to know exactly what they are talking about, they seem to be a great find!

Where has the time gone? Had the stereo fitted by Safe and Sound in Lake. Absolutely top job and great value. I don't think it looks too out of character and bluetooth, DAB+ USB and aux inputs and hands free for the phone, plus voice calling is well worth it. I have the old unit if I ever want to put her back to original. The heating took a little longer. The garage replaced the heater valve and boy did I have heat, nothing but heat! The compressor was faulty as well so they ordered that and replaced it. That was great but the control module had burnt out, which I gather is quite common. Got one from a well known auction site for £30.00 and they fitted that. System now works perfectly. The knocking from the front which so eluded the garage I bought it from, the MOT station and my usual local guy was diagnosed in 5 seconds flat by The garage. This is why it pays to take things to experts. It is the bottom shock absorber bushes which are under £40.00 each.They are on order and will be fitted this coming Tuesday. This is being done by St Helens service Station, who were recommended to me on here. That will mean that she is pretty well sorted. Just a better solution to the headlining than the push pins that are holding it up at the mo. I will speak to some of the boat trimmers we have on the island. In the meantime I have managed almost 1000 miles just on the Island and one trip to London...

One thing I have noticed though is that the transmission sometimes has a slight "vibration" in 5th at low speed, almost as though it needs to change up and is "under load" in that gear. It is the 5R55N gearbox which I know does not have the greatest reputation. Does anyone have any thoughts? Should I get an Oil and filter change done? The vibration is low pitched and reminiscent of the type of noise and feel you can sometimes get on certain road surfaces.

Hi , I try changing the Oil and filter on your gearbox fault, thats the ford  autobox and should not be too much to change

depends on the state of the Oil, some people notice a massive change and some people don't, but it got be a good starting point and usually fixes a lot of autobox faults
