  2. Thanks John, Very helpful, also not sure how the servo would get damaged by bleeding, maybe it's a Ford/Jaguar thing! Hadn't thought of an each wheel test. I'll give it a go. Might also find my BBQ thermometer and check the heat of the discs.....

  4. Hi Tim Found this on the jaguarforum.com site: "There is a common fault with the X Type that follows a brake bleed using the manual pedal pumping method. When the brake pedal goes to the floor during a pedal pump bleed, damage to the brake booster (servo) normally results. I personally suffered this following a full service at a garage that I had requested a complete brake fluid change be included. I specifically told them about the manual bleed problem and asked if they had a pressure bleeder. Although they did, the boss forgot to tell the mechanic and he manually bled them and detroyed the servo. One of the members here posted that adjustment to the push-rod between servo and master cylinder is possible and successfully cured his fault by winding in the push-rod to give some slack. Other members report putting a block of wood under the pedal to restrict pedal travel when pedal pump bleeding method is used. "Never allow the pedal to go all the way down." Symptoms include solidly locked on brakes and brakes that slowly begin to bind as you drive before locking up completely (like mine)." Not sure how that would damage the servo though....... Have you tried turning each road wheel when the brakes are locked on to see if it is all 4 or just one, or one circuit which is at fault? Good luck John
  5. So The problem child. Total mileage 37,000. The last three years it didn't move an inch. It has a problem, heavy traffic and the brakes pedal goes solid, the brakes come on, let it cool and they're free again. I've gone over the calibers, all good. I've replaced the brake servo and master cylinder (used unit) I've even followed the recommend bleed the brakes procedure. I've run it up to Glasgow, 800 faultless miles, but a day in London and it gets defeated by traffic on the Chiswick roundabout. Don't think it's a faulty vacuum hose & I've cleaned the gunk from the pedal rod, fluids all clear (and new) system all flushed through and filter good. Only recent work was two new cables for the handbrake, but it managed fine for 150 miles before the Chiswick incident. I've replaced a few age related issues; new belts, new radiator, new air condenser, new tyres, plugs and packs, so it owes me a few quid, I don't want to give up on it yet. Any ideas?

  7. Hi issue with a Jammed blind. It has power but will not release to raise.
  8. I moved down to Ringwood (Hants) last year and discovered Hollygrove Motors Ltd - excellent and very Jag orientated. Absolutely recommend them. https://hollygrovemotorsltd.co.uk/

  10. My 2006 STR has the standard audio setup (not the Alpine 'Premium sound') I made a noticeable improvement to the sound by adding a 'stand alone' Alpine Class D amplifier. Most manufacturers offer them, commonly referred to as 'power pack' amplifiers. As the standard head unit in the car hasn't got line level outputs, my amplifier can accept either 'high level' inputs (fed from the speaker outputs of the head unit) or 'line level' inputs for head units that have this function. The amp is very compact, I managed to fit it behind the dashboard, after removing the head unit to gain access to the wiring. Quite a while since I did the upgrade, but I think that I put standard round speakers into the front and rear door to replace the paper coned ovals that are standard fit, possibly needed an adaptor to make them fit the aperture and a short adaptor lead to change the speaker wires from a plug to standard spade terminals.

  13. Evening folks! A bit of an update to this post. I had my battery replaced and all was good for about a week or so, however on the way to my step daughter’s place on Fri the same DSc not available and restricted performance messages popped up accompanied by rough running! I pulled over turned her off for 10 mins or so and it was like nothing happened! The same thing happened on the way home today, no eml light and I can’t give you any stored codes as obd reader isn’t compatible with my car!! Does anyone have any ideas? many thanks, Ade.
  14. Hi everyone, I have the following codes showing in conjunction with the heater not blowing warm air. B1262 Defrost servo motor circuit failure B1263 Vent servo motor circuit fault B1239 Air flow blend door actuator circuit fault I’m familiar with a lot of threads about blend door actuators/stepper motors etc and I can see the actuators without pulling all the dash board out. Yes maybe there’s a tooth broken or an actuator has failed or a blend door is stuck. Before I hang upside down with the back of head resting on the brake pedal swearing profusely ….. What I’d like to know, if anyone has experience of these codes together, is, Is it certain that there’s a mechanical failure or could it be simply a broken or frayed wire somewhere ? If so how can I identify where ? Has a mechanical failure led to these circuit faults or is perhaps one circuit fault that explains the three codes ? Thanks for reading Paul
  15. Jagroid seems the best option particularly if you want to keep all the original charm too. However you can replace the whole unit all together with an after market set up from China. I’ve used a supplier via AliExpress called EKIY to convert combined stereo and climate control units in three different modern classics. In each case I bought complete plug and play units that also replaced the heater controls and part of the dash. That gave me sat nav, Phone, AirPlay and Android touch screen controls, integrated reverse cameras and 6 Birds Eye cameras plus tyre pressure sensors via Bluetooth and of course WiFi and internet. One of them also connected to rear headset screens. The whole package in each car came to between £300 and £500. They asked me for photos first in the case of the Mitsubishi to make sure I got the precise set up connections. The Audi and Honda were simpler but I was surprised how good the communication was before and after purchase. It was only after buying my X Type Sovereign that I realised it had Jaguar voice control, sat nav and Bluetooth phone connection and that took all of about five minutes to configure. I love the originality, I’ve even bought CD’s again. Consequently I’m not going to change my set up. Much as I like gadgets (and they were a huge advantage when selling the cars) I never sat in the back, never watched a video or looked at a website while sat in my car and I still have a tyre pressure gauge in the glove box lol. I certainly never needed to see a continuous view of my car from above 😂 But “whatever floats your boat”. The buyers were in awe of it all.
  16. Hi Richard, good on you. Here's hoping you can get the problems resolved and another great car back on the roads. N6 JMX
  17. Hi everyone I am Richard and have just got a 2006 S-Type 2.7 Diesel. Wasn't a planned buy but the owner was desperate to get shut of it as it has faults and he'd got sick of throwing money at it, and his local garages wouldn't touch it so he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm an extremely enthusiastic amateur mechanic with, even if I say so myself a pretty good setup and the tools and equipment to do most tasks and am also used to completely stripping and rebuilding cars so I figured I'd give it a go. Plus as a UK national living in the Black Forest in Germany I felt somewhat honour bound to try to rescue the poor thing ;0) I usually work on older cars but actually work in software for a large auto manufacturer so figured it would also be a good opportunity to get to work on something more modern than usual.
  18. Cheers mate..i'll check it out. Scott.
  19. could be a sensorthe most likely culprit is a faulty washer fluid level sensor. This sensor, located within the washer fluid reservoir, may be malfunctioning and sending an incorrect signal to the dashboard. To resolve this, you'll need to have the sensor tested and replaced if necessary. or thermostat related
  20. So I thought I would use this as a journal of my new journey in the Jaaaaag. She is nothing short of a masterpiece, I’ve never driven anything like it, the engine is quiet but deadly, great mpg, everything works (mostly) and I’m very impressed. now for the mostly part. when I bought it I knew the air suspension fault was on there, luckily someone at work has a diagnostic tool and found it was the plausibility issue c2303 which should be the compressor. The ride heights are good in all corners although she will be sat for a few days now so hopefully will still be the case. Yesterday my key fob wouldn’t open the car and the alarm went off, didn’t know you start the car straight away to make sure it doesn’t, I only have 1 key. I took the fob to timpsons to have another battery put in, but the fob is corroded and probably glued in to keep it together, so it couldn’t be done. I have bought another shell with new fob, I’m thinking that I can programme the new fob which I read how to do, and move the key and chip onto the new shell. any ideas if that wouldn’t work, the chip and key are together on the top half of the key, so transplanting it onto the new shell should work. apart from those so far so good, the wife finally likes it but still thinks I’m having my mid life crisis.
  21. Yes very intetested..i will PM you shortly😁

  23. I have a low water fluid warning even though it's toped up to the limit. Is there a fix to this problem...and would it cause an orange warning triangle to be displayed.Any help would be great.
  24. Just joined after buying myself a Jaguar XF...just need the alloys refurbished now. Cheers Scott.
  25. thanks guys yes it was an on the move issue it has done around 67000 and I seriously doubt the gearbox oil was changed up to date-I will organise this - now you have prompted my memory I think this is what I did the last time it happened on a previous version of this model Help much appreciated
