Wheel purchase

Got the chance to buy a set of genuine jaguar  Nevis 20 inch wheels (see picky below) 8.5j front 9.5j rear for a grand 7mm tread to all corners. Bearing in mind these retail in excess of £600 each, I think this is a great buy, but I have a few niggles, would they suit my cat, secondly  I'm worried about the offset to the rears and finally what would be the difference to the handling characteristics. Anyone got any thoughts on this, at the moment my cars running on 18 inch Tritons. Honest opinions required, if you think it will look like the dogs dinner tell me

depends what you want, if you want a nice smooth ride, these arn't for you

these will have much lower profile tyres and the ride will be much harsher and more road noise

they should fit but overall size might be different, if the outer size is much bigger then it will effect your speed reading

Difficult to be definitive here Paul, I'm in favour of offset wheels as they were an option on the STR and fill the rear arches nicely. But the 20" were never an option as far as I'm aware and they could not fit properly or not work well even if they did fit, so you're taking a risk. That said the price looks keen so if they didn't work out for you then you could probably sell them on at no loss. On balance I'd probably go with an 18" that was originally speced for the car, but nothing ventured, nothing gained

Thanks for the very informative post Jim, as you are aware from my previous posts, the car is on 18 inch Tritons, and the Nevis rims are reasonably priced at a tad over £700 Inc. tyres with a good 7mm, so I thought it was worth a punt, but having read what other connoisseurs of the marque are writing, I am beginning to think this is a step too far.

Hi Ian,

Personally, I would stick with the 18" wheels.  They give a good ride and the tyres are not too expensive.

The specification for the s type SE and Sport 2.7 and 3.0 litre cars is either 17" or 18" and the ones fitted for most drivers' preference are the 18" and appearancewise are the best looking and give a great ride as well as coping with wet twisty roads - as tested by me last Saturday driving through the Furness Peninsula on the way to Egremont.

Going to view the Nevis wheels in the morning, appointment already made, but on reflection its looking like i will be sticking with the Triton 18s. Just working on soldering my powerfold module at the mommen for the mirrors.

Do you really want wheels that say 'Supercharged' on a non-supercharged car ?

I think 20"'s are over the top on the S-Type personally but the 19" Barcelonas are a very nice looking upgrade instead !
