After buying an 11yr old 59,000m XJ6 from Hartwell Ford and then finding out the cambelt needed changing, I finally got them to change it and accept it was their responsibility. They even cleaned it inside and out. So I’m feeling good right now.

Hi David,

You were lucky to find that the cam belt needed changing -- 105k or 10 years is the norm.

My s type had a new engine when it was 2 years old, so when it is 12 years old - next year - it will have a change.

Hi Peter

Probably best to take it to a jaguar specialist, it should only take a few hours but it took Hartwell’s the whole day. Just glad I didn’t have to pay the bill.

Hi David,

I have been using the same mobile mechanic for 16 years and he has never let me down yet.  He did the belts on my Rover Sterling [2.5 V6] which was supposed to be an all day job and he did it in 4 hours!

Regards,

Peter.
